I grew up around dentists most of my life. Two of my uncles are dentists. Dr. Hugh Charles, who is my Mothers Brother, encouraged my dental interests as I assisted him in the dental office at various times.

I am the oldest of six, and lived in California most of my life. I have an amazing mother and father who taught me the value of hard work from a young age. They taught me to treat others like I would want to be treated. They encouraged me to always do my best.

At the age of nineteen, I served a mission for my church in Asuncion, Paraguay. There I was able to share my faith with others, and do a lot of service. After coming home from my mission I attended Brigham Young University. I continued my dental pursuits by earning a Bachelors of Science in Zoology and a minor in Spanish. I was married to my wife, Lisa, my senior year at Brigham Young University. Then, we were off to the University of Iowa for Dental School.

I was fortunate to receive a research scholarship there, where I studied and researched Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD) and Third Molar Extractions (wisdom teeth extractions). While in dental school, two of our children were born.

When I finished my dental degree, DDS, I was accepted to my General Practice Residency Program at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Here I received extra training in Oral Surgery, Dental Implants, IV Sedation, Orthodontics, and Medicine.

I have been a part of the Charles Dental Group for almost 24 years now. Two more children have come into our family now, making that a total of four amazing children. We love to be together as a family, and some of our favorite things to do is go boating, camping, and to Santa Cruz.

We are a water loving family, from water skiing, wake boarding, swimming and water polo. I have been involved in the schools here, mostly coaching varsity water polo at El Camino High School. I have also continued my affiliation with the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Master and District Leader.

I really enjoy the opportunity I have as a dentist to serve you. I have seen families grow in our Practice and now see their children. I even have a granddaughter of my own, what a wonderful blessing that is.

I also have the privilege of my daughter Bryanne working a as a Dental Hygienist in our Practice. Our Dental Group is truly a family atmosphere. It is a place where you can feel safe, cared for, and loved.

I grew up in southern California with a passion for research and science. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from University of California Los Angeles, I received a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures in 2009. While obtaining this degree, I volunteered at community dental clinics and health fairs as well as shadowing a dentist. These opportunities inspired him to pursue a career in dentistry.

Through his efforts with Remote Area Medical (RAM) and UCSF Community Dental Clinic, I provided dental services for patients with limited access to care. Encountering patients suffering from advanced periodontal disease with hopeless dentition sparked my interest to save teeth through different treatment modalities and further my education in periodontics.

During my residency, I taught pre-doctoral dental students in clinic and through lectures. In addition, I presented to general dentists at the Suffolk County Dental Society Meeting. Towards the end of my residency, I was chosen to participate in the Straumann National Resident Symposium.

At Charles Dental Group, we provide clear braces throughout the Fair Oaks area. Straight teeth are important for your overall oral health. When teeth are crooked, they can become stained and infected more easily. By straightening teeth, we can improve your appearance and decrease the risk of getting cavities at the same time. We can also address issues that you may have with your jaw by aligning your bite. Clear braces are truly a comprehensive way and discreet way to address oral health concerns.

We understand that while many people want to have straighter teeth, many teens and adults are uncomfortable with the traditional metal braces on their teeth for more than one year. While they are not as discreet as people wish, metal braces are an effective tool for straightening teeth. The procedure works by placing a metal bracket onto the surface of each tooth and running a wire through those brackets. It is impossible not to notice when someone is wearing traditional metal braces. While the treatment works, it can also negatively impact a persons' appearance while doing so. This has led many people to seek out a better option, one that we provide.

At Charles Dental Group, we offer clear alternatives for adults and teens the greater Fair Oaks area. We can straighten teeth and move them into the perfect position so the patient has a beautiful and radiant straight smile. If you have crooked teeth, unsightly gaps between your teeth or a misaligned bite, then we can help to correct these issues and more. Clear braces work just as effectively as metal braces but with some major improvements. Clear braces are much more difficult to notice, making them ideal for busy professionals, teens and those that do not want to negatively impact their current appearance during the process.

There are several types of clear and barely visible options to choose. One operates similarly to traditional metal braces where we place a bracket onto each tooth and thread a wire between the brackets. The difference is that instead of being made out of metal, the brackets for clear braces consists of a tooth-colored resin that blends in with the natural tooth. The wire is also tooth-colored so that the braces themselves are almost invisible and difficult to see. We find that this solution works well for teens and adults that are able to practice proper dental hygiene with the clear braces. Otherwise, food can stain the brackets. This solution is an excellent alternative to traditional braces and is just as effective at addressing all oral health concerns.

Clear braces also come in the form of aligners. Clear aligners look like a full retainer that surrounds the teeth and are worn on the upper and lower teeth. Aligners are more convenient to wear than metal braces since patients can remove them when necessary. One of the major concerns that people have with wearing braces is that they do not come off until the treatment is complete. If, for example, you get braces then decide to get married, you will either have braces in your wedding pictures or need to pay to remove them and reinstall them after. Simultaneously, if you have a big presentation at work and want to impress a client, your braces cannot come off for the meeting. This leaves many adults apprehensive about committing to a two-year treatment plan. We understand that appearance is important for more than vanity. It impacts your ability to create a professional image and retain your own self-image. As a Fair Oaks provider of clear braces and aligners, we make it so that you do not have to compromise your appearance or lifestyle while straightening teeth; aligners are a key component of that.

We treat both teens and adults and understand that both can benefit from similar treatment options. While children may not be able to wear clear braces, teens can wear clear braces if they take proper care of them. The main difference between clear braces for teens and adult braces, is that teens may need to use their aligners for a longer period of time. With such a busy schedule, we expect teens to remove their aligners more frequently to do things like play sports.

Invisalign is an orthodontic system made up of a series of clear plastic shells that fit tightly around the teeth. This treatment is a process of wearing these clear and removable aligners, which gradually straighten your teeth. Unlike traditional braces, there are no brackets and wires. These are made of flexible plastic, specifically, a patented

Implant supported dentures are a popular tooth replacement treatment option that combines dental implants and dentures. Because they combine two already existing treatments, individuals tend to experience extremely positive results, meaning little to no failure and full functionality of the oral cavity. When considering implant-supported dentures, a popular question that arises is how long the procedure

Dental restoration procedures can be used to repair damaged teeth and restore their function. Many of these treatments also address aesthetic issues affecting the tooth. Teeth are one of the strongest parts of the body, but they also deal with many things that can damage them, like acids, bacteria and bite forces. Teeth can also

Tooth extraction, or dental extraction, is the removal of a tooth from the mouth. There are many different reasons that a dentist may recommend tooth extraction, and it can be performed on any tooth inside the mouth. It is helpful to understand why a dentist may recommend it and how it can help your long-term

If I could give 0, I would. Get a bill that says we are 90 days late, and we pay every time we go. Told that they didn't know my insurance has reached it's max for the year. So now I have a late bill, because they "didn't know"? That isn't the customers fault. I will pay it, I'm responsible adult, that that's just poor service on their side. Odd side note, never had an issue with cavities before... every six months for my cleaning there are several cavities, every single time. Seems odd... My family and I will be looking for a new dentist.

If I could provide a zero I would. Less than six years ago I had a dental bridge put in which cost me &10,000. Recently, it became loose by no fault of my own. I scheduled an appointment. I simply wanted it taken out, re-cemented and put back in. The so-called experts there would not have anything to do with this. they made a halfhearted attempt to take out to no avail. At that point he explained to me that there was nothing they could do and gave me an estimate for $10,000 to do another new bridge. So I went to another dentist , who took out my bridge and explained to me that the bonding material they used to cement my bridge was faulty and was no longer keeping them together. It took him less than two minutes to take them out, put the bonding material on, put them back in my mouth and I was out the door after a cleaning. I hope people learn from my mistakes and steer clear of this business! there's a reason they have three stars and hopefully they get much less because that's what they deserve. I am thoroughly disgusted and completely dissatisfied with the outcome of their product! No Thanks, SV

I've had many issues with dentists in previous years, having I believe unnecessary root canals, fillings, etc... I love Charles dental group, especially Doctor Hersch (not sure if I spelled her name right). She listens to me and doesn't do more work than really needed. She was sensitive to my previous issues and I have never had a problem. Love her. They are now my kids dentist too.

The office mgr ( I assume) named Rica is a rude con-man. Tried to scam me out of $400 for a teeth cleaning saying they ''had'' to take x-rays first! Yeah you read that right and i have it in writing that he tried this, which i will be forwarding to the Dental Board! $400 for a simple teeth cleaning!!! How are these people still in business?

On 6/30/2016 I had fillings done in the office. It was a total fiasco when I was there. I sat there for over two hours with the dentist coming in and out - going to see to see other patients, numbing my mouth, leaving, doing work, leaving. Asking the assistant to do things and her trying to do things even though her hands were trembling. Then he comes in and corrects what she did. Anyway, I immediately start having excruciating pain after these fillings. I am taking Motrin around the clock with no relief and getting horrible migraines from the pain in my teeth. Finally after two weeks I go see another dentist to see if something is wrong. No way was I going back to this place after what I saw on 6/30. Come to find out these fillings that were placed are chipping away after two weeks leaving the nerves and gums exposed -and it wasn't just one of the fillings. Well my insurance company will only pay for a filling in a tooth once every so many years. So because I just had those fillings placed I had to pay out of pocket - almost $800 to have these fillings taken out and replaced. I had zero choice I couldn't live in this pain for the next week let alone year. So the $800 went on a credit card. I contacted my insurance company and filed a grievance. I was first denied and I contacted Dr Charles Dental group for some additional information for my appeal. They of course said they weren't at fault for this work. I didn't argue I simply said okay. I can't believe they would stand by this but now I know how they operate. I filed an appeal submitting the pictures and won the appeal. I attached the letter I got from my insurance company. Dr Charles Dental group was to return the money to my insurance company and then they would cover the $800 bill I paid to fix this work. They were also told to return any copays I made. I never received any money from them. I was told I could go to small claims court but by this time I'm so done with all this I just want to move on. I kind of held out hope they would do the right thing and eventually send me a check but I guess not. Then yesterday (more than a year later) I get a bill for $450 from this office. I immediately called this place and was told the billing department was talking to another patient. I told them I wanted a return call the same day. After no return call for 30 min I called back and wouldn't you know that the person left for the day. How convenient!! Another 20 min later I got a call from them saying that while that person did leave they spoke with someone else and I can throw the bill away. They were waiting for my insurance company to pay it and they did. What?? That makes no sense - I haven't been there in over a year. What on earth are they billing my insurance company for?? Of course she couldn't answer that question. I am beyond done with this place. They stand by their poor work and don't do the right thing. Shame on you!!!
