Dr. Cavanaugh, a life-long St. Louisan, had his first orthodontic experience as a patient of Dr. Matlof and Dr. Waxler in Manchester! Inspired by their work, Dr. Cavanaugh pursed his interest in orthodontics and attended the Six-Year B.A./D.D.S. Program at the University of Missouri - Kansas City, earning a degree in biology and his dental degree in 1994.
During summer breaks of dental school, Dr. Cavanaugh returned to the office where he received treatment and had the opportunity to work for Dr. Matlof and Dr. Waxler as an orthodontic assistant, further reinforcing his desire to follow their career path. He continued his training at UMKC finishing his orthodontic residency in 1996. Dr. Cavanaugh then had the opportunity to join the practice that same year.
Outside of practice, Dr. Cavanaugh has been very involved with organized dentistry. He was a member of the board of the Delta Dental Health Theatre, serving as president for two years. As a member of the theater, he worked alongside fellow dental professionals and those in the dental industry to provide dental education for children, especially those who have little access to dental care. Dr. Cavanaugh also sat on the board of the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation and served as president in 2007-2008. Dr. Cavanaugh is also passionate about his community and served as co-president of the PTO at Fairway Elementary when the school first opened in 2004.
Dr. Cavanaugh and his wife Linzi met in dental school. Linzi practices general dentistry in Frontenac as an associate of Dr. Doxey Sheldon. Together they have four children: Margaret, Katherine, Ryan, and Joe. Margaret graduated from Syracuse University and now lives in New York working for Edelman. Katherine graduated from Columbia University and returned to St. Louis to work for Abbott. Ryan attends Miami University and is studying finance and computer science. Joe is in high school at Chaminade.
In his free time, Dr. Cavanaugh enjoys traveling the country watching Joes teams play soccer and lacrosse. When he is not spending time working in his yard, he is all about watching the Cardinals and the Blues and looks forward to cheering on the new MLS team.

I saw plenty of orthodontist Before deciding on Dr. Cavanaugh. Best decision I could've made. Not only have I seen a drastic change in my smile only 3 months into my treatment, actually saying drastic is an understatement, my smile has changed COMPLETELY in a good way of course. He was the only orthodontist to offer me multiple treatment options taking my concerns into consideration. Which was super important to me as an adult getting braces. Also, everyone in his office is friendly and inviting! Once I check in for my appointment I'm never waiting long to be seen, and they are already prepared once I get back so the visits aren't long either. Super happy with my decision.

Throughout the past couple decades, my family has used century orthodontics, and always come back, whenever anything is needed as we've always have top-notch, courteous, and truly personalized care. I hadn't been in over six years as my treatment had finished and when I came back for advice and check up, it was like a family welcome home.

Hi my Orthodontic dr. Fink happly retire. But she not only put me in good hands with Orthodontic Dr. Cavanaught all of original team is still there. And now meeting a new team of Dr. Cavanaugh is all so caring and warming personality. I will highly recommend.
