Ive been practicing since 2001. I grew up knowing I loved working with my hands, needed a profession where my mind was constantly challenged, and had to have a close connection with others. Dentistry, and the endodontics specialty, was the ideal choice: its the perfect bridge between the three, allowing me to make a real, lasting difference in the lives of others. Dr. Joseph D. Dr. Bonavilla knows the only way to provide patients with the right care for their endodontic needs is through continuing education. He regularly attends conferences, seminars, and lectures on the latest techniques, materials, and approaches to care. Through in-depth seminars and courses in Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), hes able to use comfortable 3D imaging to diagnose and treat complex cases in an efficient, effective manner.

A native of Honeoye Falls, New York,a small town south of Rochester, Dr. Bonavilla has called West Columbia home since 2009. He and his beautiful wifeKristenmarried in 2002. They currently have seven children: LJ, Eddie, Jacqueline, Nicholas, Michael,Diana Frances and Maggie.

When hes not working, Dr. Bonavilla can often be found at the Northwest YMCA:watching his children participate on the swim team. If not there, he might be out for a run, rollerblading, or kayaking. The doctor enjoys many activities through his church and loves time outdoors with his family.

As an endodontist, I have made a promise to continually improve my knowledge and skills in order to serve the best interests of my patients. Every day presents new opportunities to grow professionally, rise to meet challenges, experience new things, and most importantly help others. By easing a persons pain and helping them achieve improved oral and overall health, I am able to make a positive, lasting difference.

I love having the opportunity and ability to alleviate pain and eliminate infection for my patients. Dr. Sciarrino attended the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, where she received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery and graduated summa cum laude. She remained at the university for her postgraduate studies and completed a specialty certificate in endodontics.

Throughout the year, Dr. Sciarrino attends numerous continuing education courses on a variety of oral healthcare topics. By strengthening her core knowledge of general dentistry and endodontics, she ensures that sheprovidesthe best care and strongest results for patients.

Dr. Sciarrino studies advances in techniques and technologies, along with current research discussions. This allows her to implement an evidence-based approach to patient care, through diagnosis, planning, and treatment.

After growing up in Fredonia, in western New York, Dr. Sciarrino now lives in Lexington. She loves relaxing near the water and enjoying South Carolinas beautiful weather. Time with family and friends is a top priority for Dr. Sciarrino. Shes passionate about cherishing and nurturing bonds with people in her life, and loves making others feel comfortable.

I am both glad and grateful that I have been able to help so many patients over the years. There have been many who were both frightened and in pain, and I have been able to ease both. Of course, I am helped in all of this by our wonderful staff members. Without them, it would be difficult to accomplish the level of care we are known for at Central Carolina Endodontics.

Dr. Melanie Brown took the long route to endodontics. She went to dental assisting school and from there, straight to dental hygiene school, all at the Medical University of SC. She worked as a dental hygienist for five years before returning to dental school at the Medical University of SC, College of Dental Medicine for her Doctorate of Dental Medicine, which she completed in 1993. Dr. Brown then went to the University of Pittsburgh Dental School for her residency in endodontics, finishing in 1995.

A member of the American Association of Endodontists, Dr. Brown completes most of her continuing education requirements at their annual sessions. She also attends local dental society meetings through the Edisto Dental Society. This allows her to keep current on changes and developments in the field, especially new technologies, materials, and treatments.

Dr. Brown was born in Atlanta, GA and grew up in Florence, SC. Both of her parents are from Kingstree, SC and both sides of her family have been in South Carolina for many generations. Dr. Brown currently resides in Beaufort, SC, with her husband Guy. They have been married since 1994. While they have no children, they have several fur babies to keep them company at home.

Dr. Brown is an avid reader, loves to garden, works out at the gym, and spends much of her free time with her husband, friends, and family. She very much enjoys cooking and baking, and has recently taken on the challenge of making both gluten free.

Surprising to some, my family and I couldnt wait to get back to South Carolina after a two-year Naval tour in Hawaii! I have nothing but great things to say about the patients I have treated here. In turn, these patients continually praise the professionalism and kindness of the wonderful staff at Central Carolina Endodontics. Along with that, I believe that the local dentists do a great job of preparing our patients for the procedure and ensuing treatment plan. The staff and I have had a great time bonding with patients who are often apprehensive at first, but leave after a great experience.

After growing up in Argyle, Wisconsin, Dr. Mathys has lived in the Carolinas on and off since 2007. He and his wife, Jessica, live in Ruffin, SC with their 4 children; Elena-11, Elias-9, Evan-7, and Edwin-4. Along with staying active in their local church, the Mathys family loves the outdoors. They enjoy hunting, fishing, and sports.

Dr. Mathys pitched Division 1 baseball at Iowa State University prior to signing a contract with the New York Yankees and playing 5 years of professional baseball. His wife, Jessica, played collegiately at Iowa State as well (softball) and they both coached for 2 years at Augustana College prior to his entry into the Navy and dental school.
