Oral dryness is caused due to lack of saliva. The changes can be gradual. Often times people do not realize the lack of quantity in the early stages. They may report dental decay or taste problems or simply drink more water. While it may be less noticeable in the early stages, the changes may progress to more devastating oral complications such as tooth decay, oral fungal infections, bad taste, bad breath, fissured tongue, etc.

Saliva is secreted by major salivary glands that are found in the orofacial region. They are parotid glands that are on either side of the cheek just in front of the jaw joint and ears. The other pairs are below the tongue and are settles in the lower jaw area. There thousands of minor salivary glands that coat the mouth. Damages to the salivary glands leading to poor saliva secretion thus leading to oral dryness.

Saliva testing helps diagnose and prevent damage to teeth, gums, and tissues. Saliva testing for quantity by measuring the whole saliva or testing the saliva quality helps explain the impact of salivary tissue damage. Further, a biopsy of the minor salivary glands may help assess the level of damage to an autoimmune connection.

Autoimmune conditions sometimes cause dry mouth and they may be the only or one of the few vague symptoms that may be presented. In other words, a systematic workup may help to identify the underlying condition.

We can evaluate and check your saliva. If you have oral dryness, early identification may help in the prevention of cavities. A workup may help to rule out any possible autoimmune disease such as Sjogrens syndrome, lupus, etc.,

Dr Thoppay is the worst. Not only did she not help my burning mouth syndrome or my thrush, but she seems to have a major issue with Medicare. I made & kept appointments and saw her for several months. She sent me for a lot of diagnostic bloodwork, which she assured me Medicare would pay for. I received a $1200 bill from Quest. I asked her several times if she would intercede on my behalf with Quest and/or Medicare, because Medicare denied the claim because she coded the bloodwork incorrectly (per Medicare). She refused to call either Medicare or Quest, as she said "She does not like to call those places because she ends up on the phone with them for hours and wastes her time". She also said, "If I continue to have problems with Medicare, I just won't accept it anymore as payment for any patient."She was very patronizing to me, as several times she said, "Let me try and explain this so you can understand". Believe me, I understand. I am not a child. I am a 70-year-old woman who has been seeking relief from these conditions for a very long time.I spent days & days on the phone with Medicare and Quest trying to get this straightened out. Quest eventually said the bill was closed, but Medicare says it is still open. I practically had to beg her to contact Quest who told me they had emailed her for a verbal review of coding and that she had not answered back. The whole thing is a giant mess now. I will never go back to her, and if you are sensitive about going to the dentist, please do not see Dr. Thoppay. She is unsympathetic, arrogant and the worst doctor/dentist I have ever seen in my life. Also her operatory rooms are immaculate, but when you go behind the scenes and ask to use the restroom it looks like a garbage dump. It is dirty, no toilet paper, the floor is filthy, no paper towels, and no soap to wash your hands. This just goes to show you what really lies underneath. L.N., Lake Mary, FL

Dr. Thoppay created a treatment plan for me which resolved a nagging problem, allowing me to retain one of my permanent teeth (Another provider suggested an implant). I did not know anything about new lazar treatment options until she explained the benefits to me. Dr. Thoppay explained her treatment plan clearly and helped me understand the what and the why of the plan. I highly recommend Dr. Thoppay.

For years I searched for a physician with knowledge of burning mouth problems and I was so lucky to find Dr. Thoppay! She is kind, knowledgeable, professional, very patient, and empathetic. She is never too rushed to answer my unending questions and is constantly updating her research into this very rare condition. Her office is immaculate and her staff is very helpful. There is never a wait. If you Google her credentials you'll see I am not exaggerating!

Dr. Jaisri R. Thoppay Is an excellent dentist. She allowed me to be in control of my treatment, whilst providing sound technical information every step of the way. Also, her choice of lab made for a well constructed partial. She is honest and compassionate. She was very concerned with the condition of my teeth and made sure I had no disease. I am very happy that I went to the Center for Integrative Oral Health and happy with her work I highly recommend her.

This was by far the best dental experience I have ever had to this day! Dr. T is very personable and friendly! I am a new patient and she made me feel at ease. She explained all the procedures and did not pressure me into any unneeded treatments. Thank you to Dr. T and her staff for a great visit! See you in 6 months!

I was very impressed how knowledgeable the doctor was with TMJ type problems. She took much time asking questions and listening to my symptoms. She also did not jump to the most expensive solution to my problem. Instead she took a very conservative approach to treatment. The office was pristine clean and the front desk was friendly and welcoming. I would have no hesitation in referring friends to this dentist.

Dr. Thoppay and her whole team are absolutely incredible. I saw 6 different doctors in my area for a complicated medical issue and none had any idea what to do for me, I was beyond desperate and in chronic pain. I drove 7 hours to meet with Dr. Thoppay and she immediately knew what was wrong. I've since returned home and even recently relocated to a different part of the country, and I have had no issues continuing treatment with Dr. Thoppay via telemedicine. She and her team have truly been a life saver for me and I could not recommend this practice any more.

I wouldn't recommend this dental office to no one. Why am I paying my dental insurance every month for you to charge me $50 for a cleaning that my insurance covers + plus $17 for the supplies to clean my teeth? My insurance already paid them and when I called she said wait another 3 months. I'm never coming back here again. You guys are just greedy for money. I already found a dental office that's not making their "CUSTOMERS" pay for something the insurance covers 100%.

Welcoming staff and prompt appointment. My ENT directed me to Dr. Thoppay for TMJ. She was professional and personable. Because of my hearing problem, she went to the corner of the room to speak so she could take off her mask with safety. I feel confident she will help my problem.
