Forty-four-year-old Carey Miller doesnt smoke, eats a healthy diet and is proactive about her health, making sure to get all the annual screenings her health care provider recommends. So, on an unassuming day in March 2021 when she saw bright red blood in her stool, it caught her attention.

She wasnt overly concerned at first, but she knew from reading online that bright red blood in feces could be an indicator of colorectal cancer. Even though she knew of no colorectal cancer history in her family, she decided to keep a watch on it. From her reading, she knew that rates of colorectal cancer in people younger than 50 have been increasing, which recently prompted the U.S. Preventative Services Task Forceto recommend beginningscreening for colorectal cancer at age 45instead of age 50.

An endoscopic ultrasound was scheduled withRosario Ligresti, M.D., chief of the gastroenterology division at Hackensack University Medical Center, in late May. The endoscopic ultrasound provided a detailed visualization of the tumor so that the multidisciplinary team at the hospital could understand how deep and large it was and whether the cancer had spread to any lymph nodes.

We were able to get all the staging information and then connect her to the appropriate management teamthe surgeons and oncologistspretty quickly, Dr. Ligresti says. With the staging information and the input of the multidisciplinary team, you really have a good picture of the tumor in the best possible way before you get to the operating room.

Because Carey had a small, localized tumor, the multidisciplinary team assessed that she didnt need chemotherapy or radiation to shrink the tumor before surgery; she could go directly to surgery, which she did. In early June, she had a minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery that removed the cancerous tumor and more than 50 lymph nodes. She was able to go home two days later.

Her surgeon,Howard Ross, M.D., removed all of the cancer so she didnt need any radiation or chemotherapy following surgery either. She will need annual colonoscopies going forward. After her surgical incisions healed, she returned to her regular routines and diet without any restrictions.

Im just thankful, she says. This could have been so much worse if not caught early. And I cant say enough about Hackensack. My stay there was great. The nursesall of the hospital staffwere just wonderful. They made a stressful time a little bit easier to deal with because everyone was so caring and sympathetic.

(Translated by Google) I don't know where to complain, because of a hairpiece they made me, and it's wrong. I called the hospital to tell them that the denture is wrong, because I can't bite on the left side, when I bite my gum hurts a lot. They gave me an appointment where they only scraped the hairpiece a little, but I'm still the same, I can't bite on the left side, because of the pain it causes... I told them that my hairpiece was still wrong, and they gave me an appointment for last Friday, , and this appointment was canceled putting silly arguments. I called the same Friday and told them that my hairpiece is wrong, I can't bite and I think I'm damaging my gums, and they have given me an appointment for this Monday at 8am. I hope they solve my problem, and they don't come to me with silly arguments. If someone from the hospital reads this, please tell me where I can file my complaint for malpractice in dentistry, and be able to elaborate more on the treatment they have given me. false.

The staff was so nice and comforting! The wait was not long either and I was a new patient. Everyone I came in contact with was helpful and friendly- even doctors in the hallway made sure I was finding my way with no trouble. The dentist, assistant, x-ray tech and receptionists were very kind and took time to explain everything to me. I cannot express how pleasant my experience was and I am terrified of dental appointments! Thank you so much!

The dental clinic is sometimes very good and at other times not so good. I have had over the course of a number of visits very proficient and pleasant dentists and one dentist who seemed inept enough for me to request a different dentist for my next visit (which was granted). On one occasion, I had to wait an hour past my scheduled appointment time to be seen. There are two clinic facilities for dental work here at the hospital. One facility requires very little walking from one's parking space to the clinic while the other requires such a long walk from parking to the facility that its terribly difficult for anyone with walking problems .. Overall, if you can park near the dental facility at the Hillcrest address and you get an accomplished friendly dentist, I highly recommend the work of the Center for Dentistry at HUMC..

I've been to the Center for dentistry at Hackensack University Medical Center a couple of times now, yesterday was my most recent visit. I love my dentist he's literally amazing, he's nice, he's relatable, definitely a caring doctor, you can tell that this really is his passion and he really is here to help his patience and whatever way he can. My doctor is Rey Pella. He just recently told me yesterday that he won't be seeing me for my next six month check up/cleaning I asked him why and he said that he was graduating... That's when I realize that the this was part of dentistry school lol it made a lot of sense actually with all the rooms and doctors at this location. I have been to the other location down a block on second street I like that location just a litttttle bit more simply because it actually looks like a doctors office and has a whole waiting area right in front of the receptionist rather than the one inside of the hospital at 360 Prospect Ave. where the receptionist cubicle/window is in the hallway of the hospital and the waiting room is a little bit out of the way compared to normal doctors offices. It's not much of an inconvenience as it is just a bit odd lol. Other than that the staff is very friendly I've never had an issue with anyone and I've seen a couple of doctors/I guess students and they've all been super nice I have no complaints about that. Only issue I would complain about is the receptionist should have more help at the front Desk clearly there was too many people checking in and checking out at the same time and there was a bit of a line and that's inconvenient for the fact that we were all discombobulated in the hallway. Definitely a hassle being that it's a hotspot hallway and it's right next to the parking garage so people come and go and pass by you a lot. Other than that this place is literally amazing definitely recommend!!

Do yourself a BIG favor: run as far and fast as possible AWAY from them or you'll be VERY sorry. I went there for their self-pay rates because I have no insurance. Without giving me any sort of estimate, I was billed and paid $300 for a tissue biopsy. About 2 weeks later, I received a separate bill from the hospital for almost $800! The clinic submitted a bill on behalf of the hospital to my medical insurance without my knowledge or authorization. I'm now facing the classic run around scenerio. The hospital claims the bill was generated by the clinic. The clinic points the finger right back at the hospital. Completely unethical. I terminated my treatment with them, retrieved my records and xrays and filed complaints against the clinic, hospital and doctor with the NJ Attorney General's Office.

The doctors are young and vibrant. The one thing I do not like is that the centers don't look as clean as they should. Needs new paint and the floors are dirty. The dental equipment looks clean but the aesthetics of both places needs an update. It feels dirty - there are scuff marks all over the walls and the floors have a white dust on them - i always wear black booties and they get covered in white dust. Ugh. But i really like my dentist and the work he has done so far.

The first time I went to the dental center at HUMC I was hopeless and in a lot of pain. The hospitality that Dr. Rahim showed helped me come to my senses. I had a lot of cavities and wisdom teeth to extract. In just three appointments he was able to help me regain my smile and finally be able to eat! Although many people are afraid of getting their teeth extracted ( me being one of them) Dr. Rahim was extremely gentle and his awesome personality made the experience bearable. He is an amazing doctor and I am going to miss him!

DO NO GO HERE!!! (Unless you want to pay a lawyer and court fees following your appointment!) I wish I could give this dentist 0 stars!!! I came in to get my cavities filled and the dentist only managed to do the most terrible job with the fillings. She did my lower right side and made the fillings too tall and too deep and now I can't bite on both sides evenly. I also still have some pain in the area where she drilled my molars when I have hot or cold water in my mouth! I would highly NOT recommend this dentist for the low level of professionalism in her work and I would gladly post a video of any sort of disdain I receive for posting my honest review of this business.
