Wow, I cant believe I have been serving my patients for over 30 years! said Dr. Lori Ann Safar when we asked the owner of Celebrity Smile about how long she has been in dentistry. That time has just flown by, but thats not unusual when you enjoy what you are doing. Dr. Safar grew up in a small town just north of Minneapolis. She is the eldest of 3 with 2 younger brothers. Growing up most of her time was spent outdoors enjoying the seasonal sports or riding her horse in the countryside. When forced to be inside her artsy side cam out with time for drawing and painting. Undergraduate studies were completed at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN where she studied pre-med/pre-dent biology. While at university Dr. Lori stayed active in sports as well as continuing with her quieter passion of painting. In 1988 Dr. Lori Ann Safar completed her DDS (doctor of dental surgery) degree from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. With a handful of her classmates, Dr. Lori joined the US Navy. Her duty stations were across the US with her final duty station being NAS Miramar. (Now MCAS Miramar). Since 1991, Dr. Lori Ann Safar has been in private practice with her first office in Carmel Mountain and her current practice, Celebrity Smile, located in the Torrey Hills area of Carmel Valley in San Diego, CA. During this time Dr. Lori and her husband raised their 5 children being active in their schools and contributing to multiple fund raisers for both their schools and their extra curricular activities ( and with 5 active kids there were a lot of activities ). When asked about her current practice and what she wanted people to know about it she was particularity strong in her response. Celebrity Smile has the ability to fabricate same day crowns with the help of the CEREC unit which captures impressions using a camera and fabricating a CAD/CAM model upon which crowns are planned. A CBCT, 3D imaging technology, is used to evaluate the health of the hard structures, teeth and bone, allowing Dr. Lori Ann Safar to see disease in the earliest states to allow for treatment to be completed when issues are small. There is also technology that allows Dr. Safar to see inside the teeth without radiation. This device uses near infrared lightwaves to see tooth decay and fractures that may otherwise fo undetected.
