A good friend of Dr. McVetys family is actually a dentist, and he knew early on that he wanted to help care for people in the same way. He really enjoys meeting new people and going above and beyond to ensure that theyre happy with their results. During dental school, his classes also stressed the importance of the link between the oral cavity and total body health, which solidified his intentions even further. Today, he cant imagine working in any other profession.
After attending Bates College for his undergraduate degree, Dr. McVety pursued his doctorate at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. Following graduation, he attended a General Practice Residency at the Veterans Hospital in Denver, Colorado, where he received advanced training in implant placement and restoration, advanced gum disease treatment, and restorative dentistry. His passion for continuing education includes the following highlights as well:
Dr. McVety currently serves as a faculty member at the University of New England where he teaches one day a week. He enjoys mentoring and teaching future dentists about new technologies and advanced techniques in the oral healthcare field. He is currently a member of the Maine Dental Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.
When he isnt busy at the practice, Dr. McVety enjoys going running with his rescued Black Lab mix, Baxter. He is a big animal lover! His favorites are alpacas and giraffes, both of which he has met upclose and personally. He is also a big eater and loves spending time at all the restaurants that the Portland area has to offer he has a particular affinity for gelato. His other hobbies include skiing, traveling, and fishing. In fact, he just recently tried his hand at paddle board fishing and discovered a whole new adventure he now loves.
Dr. McVety is also passionate about volunteering. He regularly provides care at a free dental clinic called Oasis in Brunswick, Maine. In the past, hes gone on service trips to Honduras and Uganda for the same purpose.
Dr. Kieffer graduated with distinction from the University of Maine in 2012, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. His desire to pursue a career in dentistry led him to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Dalhousie University. Following graduation, Dr. Kieffer completed a one-year General Practice Residency (GPR) program, also at Dalhousie University. This decision was based on his desire to expand his skillset and further his knowledge to provide his future patients with a higher level of dental care.
A significant portion of this one-year residency was spent in a hospital setting within the departments of oral and maxillofacial surgery, anesthesia, otolaryngology, and pediatric dentistry. During this time, Dr. Kieffer received advanced training in working with the medically compromised, administrating intravenous (IV) sedation, and being part of an interdisciplinary team.
Now in private practice, Dr. Kieffer demonstrates his commitment to lifelong learning and providing dentistry at the highest level by frequently completing continuing education. He has learned from some of the top clinicians and organizations in the world, including SPEAR Education, Pikos Surgical Institute, and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.
Dr. Kieffer and his wife, Emily, recently welcomed a baby girl into the family, and he is loving his role as a new dad. When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Kieffer enjoys staying active outdoors through cycling, skiing, and hiking with his golden retriever, Luna. He and Emily also like to explore the ever-changing restaurant scene that Portland has to offer.

If you are in need of warm service and a pleasant dental experience I would recommend going to Casco Bay Smiles. From the warm reception you receive when you walk in along with all the professionalism and explanation of the work, they are doing puts you at ease. It is a pleasurable experience. Yes I have learnded even at the Dentist you can have a pleasurable experience . I would recommend wearing headphone so they can work and you can relax to Music cause the dentist tools look like something they used in a 17 century torture chamber. Just saying... thanks to all at Casco Bay Smiles for everything.. give them a try and see if you agree with me...

Hands down the best new patient appointment I've ever had at a dentist's office. From being offered coffee/water when I first walked in, to being offered a heated neck wrap when I first sat down, the staff were all so friendly and nice. The people who work in that office definitely match the aesthetic that they give off; warm and inviting. They were thorough with their evaluation and I could see that they genuinely care to help get me to where I need to be. Definitely all around a great experience.

I am so glad I found this place, I loved my recent experiences with Casco Bay Dental and can't believe how great they are. They are all very thorough, comforting, and they listen to me if my worries and what I want to accomplish. I just wish o didn't wait to doling yo go back to a dentist! Caitlin, my hygienist is amazing, the office staff are very detailed, helpful and dr Mcvety is very patient and gentle, best place for any dental work!!

I have been visiting this practice for approximately two years, and have never been disappointed. They are all very thorough, kind, and gentle. Recently I needed to have two fillings removed and replaced. Dr. Kieffer was sure to express that this was a maintenance item, and that fillings do not last forever. He reinforced and assured me that my daily dental hygiene was appropriate, and did not cause this. Dr. Kieffer was efficient, and gentle. The procedure took roughly an hour to complete. I honestly don't think I have the words to express how amazing every single person is at Casco Bay Smiles. I've been a patient here for a few years and recommend it to everyone I know. Katlyn is my dental hygienist and I just adore her. Let me preface this, I HATED getting my teeth cleaned prior to coming to Casco Bay Smiles. It was always painful and awkward. It's never painful here and my teeth are super clean. Katlyn is so nice to talk to and puts me at ease from the moment I sit in her chair. Most recently, I had to have a few fillings. I have pretty terrible anxiety about certain things and was a mess the morning of. Dr. Kieffer was awesome and worked as efficiently as he could so I wouldn't be in the chair long. And Sydney. She's an angel. She went above and beyond to help me stay calm through the process, holding my hand and keeping me comfortable. She knew exactly what to do and say. Her kindness and her ability to keep me calm should be commended. I can't thank her enough. ANYWAY, if you're like me and a little extra, go see Casco Bay Smiles. You won't find a better team/office in Southern Maine.

Always greeted with a smile! Dani is incredibly thoughtful, genuine and kind! The dental care is top notch and the entire staff is personable and patient, especially with my 96 year-old mother. Lastly, I very much enjoy the calm and clean atmosphere.

Best dental experience ever!! Everyone was wonderfully kind, attentive, and thorough. The office itself was lovely and even provided a warm towel and TVs on the ceilings to watch Netflix! Dr. Kieffer and Katlyn were exceptional. They were both so friendly and informative. I'm looking forward to going back for my next cleaning!
