Dr. Carter is a local girl through and through. She grew up in Short Hills and graduated from Millburn High School where she was on the tennis, fencing and lacrosse teams. She earned her BS in Molecular Biology from Haverford College, on the mainline of Philadelphia. Here, she was captain of the fencing team, Rookie of the Year and qualified individually for the NCAA tournament. She returned to New Jersey for Dental School at UMDNJ-NJDS (now Rutgers School of Dental Medicine) and was honored with earning the American Academy of Dentistry for Children Award, the Pierre Fauchard Award and others. Following graduation, she moved to New York City where she completed her Pediatric Dentistry Residency and served as Chief Resident at NYU College of Dentistry. She continued her training by completing an additional residency in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at NYU. During this time, she loved treating patients with special needs and decided to spend another year in advanced training. She completed the fellowship in Cleft, Craniofacial and Surgical Orthodontics at the world renowned Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery- NYU Langone Medical Center. After 9 years of training post college, she is one of a handful of doctors with this comprehensive advanced training in the country.

Following training, she taught at NYU, worked with her father, Dr. Robert W. Carter an orthodontist in Staten Island, NY and with Dr. Mitchell Bayroff in Summit, NJ for over a decade. She lectures locally and internationally on treating special needs patients, especially Autism Spectrum Disorder and Cleft Lip and Palate. She recently spoke at the American Association of Orthodontists National Meeting and at the New York Academy of Pediatric Dentistrys Special Patient Care Symposium. She is frequently a guest on Sirius Radio Channel 110 Doctor Radio and has appeared on Inside Edition, WPIX, NBC Nightly News and Today.com. She has also been published in Kiwi and Scholastic Magazines. She has been honored to receive NJ Magazine Top Doctor and NJ Family Magazine Top Kids Doc Voted by Moms awards several times.

She is Past President of the Northeastern Society of Orthodontists (NESO), the third largest region in the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO). She is one of 8 people to serve on the AAO Council on Orthodontic Health Care. This group helps bring orthodontic care to children who need and can not afford braces. She also serves as the NESOs Delegate Chair to the AAO House of Delegates, which is similar to our US Congress.

In her spare time, she loves playing with her toy poodle, Callie who is a certified therapy dog and AKC Canine Good Citizen. They volunteer through Morristown based Creature Comfort Pet Therapy to brighten lives. Callie is joining our office team on some days, too! Dr. Carter is an avid golfer and Bar Method enthusiast.

Our practice is dedicated to helping children have bright healthy smiles for a beautiful future. We stress integrative pediatric dentistry to prevent developing problems. We believe in starting patients young (1 year old) to establish healthy habits from the start. Preventing problems is better than fixing problems! Not only are we watching for cavities, but we also look for developing issues with spacing, crowding and bites. Comprehensive integrative dental care from diapers to college degrees!

We have individualized care for each patient to make every visit easy and fun. We take special care to address your childs need. We explain everything to each child so they know what things look like, sound like and feel like before we start. We do everything to make your childs experience positive.

Dr. Carter, Pediatric Dentist and Orthodontist Dr. Carter has been making the world a better place one smile at a time for over a decade. She started working in her fathers office as a little girl and decided she wanted to grow up and be like him, she still works in his office. She is one of a handful of dentists in the country who is both a Pediatric Dentist and Orthodontist. She was in school for 11 years after college! She loves having fun in the office while providing the best and individualized care for each patient. She is most proud of her Therapy Dog, Callie. When not in the office, Dr. Carter is at Bar Method Madison or playing golf and trying to break 80!

Callie, Certified Therapy Dog Callie loves being in the office and making everyone smile. She alerts us when the front door opens, greets every patient, and snuggles on laps. She enjoys playing with and kissing patients. Sometimes shes sleeping! When not in the office, Callie is playing with her pack (Mousse and Mickey) or napping. She loves chasing chipmunks, squirrels and running cartoon dog fast. Her favorite snacks are steak, chicken, meatballs and whatever Dr. Carter is having.

Lori, Hygienist Lori has been with the office for almost 20 years. She is an expert in teaching your child excellent oral health skills and comforting with her silly sense of humor, warmth and compassion. She is also very skilled at orthodontics so dont be surprised when she is giving your child a beautiful healthy smile. She is always joking around and brings lots of laughter to our team. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time outside with her husband Ken her two boys Brian and Dan, and her dogs Max and Cody.

Daniela, Clinical and Administrative Assistant Daniela is a lifelong patient of the office. She recently graduated as a Chemistry major and with a Spanish and Business Management minor at The College Of New Jersey. She is currently applying to dental school so we look forward to having her as a colleague in the near future. When not in the office, she is hiking with her friends, guiding her 2 younger sisters, and reminding everyone to wear their retainers and floss!

Karen is the newest Registered dental hygienist on our team. Even as a young girl she was fascinated with teeth and loved her dentist. As an adolescent orthodontic patient she became excited by dentistry and chose to pursue a career path in dental hygiene. From her many years as a dental hygienist she believes education, prevention and self care are important to achieve optimal dental health and overall wellness. Outside the office she enjoys the great outdoors, gardening and being a Mom to her two cats, Girlie Furlie and Romeow.

Kelyn, Office Manager Kelyn (K-leen) has been in the dental field for 5 years and has been a wonderful addition to our team. She is our insurance guru, ask her any insurance question and she will guide you through! Her sunny disposition brightens our office every day! When not in the office, she and her husband pamper their dog Binxster and love to spend time with their family!

Eliza, Front Desk, Ortho Assistant Eliza may be a newbie to the front but she has had over 10 years of experience in NYC as an orthodontic assistant. Her orthodontic experience helps guide all our patients through any questions! Her kind and sweet personality, makes everyone smile as she welcomes you to the office! When not in the office, Eliza is running her Dog Grooming business, Glam Paws, she is a certified groomer and can make any pup sparkle! With her little down time she loves to spend it with her husband, and her three dogs, Chunky, Leo and Chloe!

Danielle, Front Desk Receptionist Danielle has been a friend of Dr. Carters since childhood. She keeps busy taking care of her two sons Luke and Owen, her niece and nephew Penny and Charlie, and her rescue dog Sammy. Thats not all though, Danielle is also one of our front desk receptionists. She brings a contagious positive energy to our team that is like no other. When she gets a chance, she likes to relax and take some time to herself.

Laura, Front Desk Laura the newest addition to our front desk team, has brought her cheer and organization to the front! Although new to Dentistry, she is excited to learn all about teeth and helps maintain organization in the front. A Summit Native, she is no stranger to many of our Carter Smile Patients. When not working, she loves to spend time with her friends and family and although she may not have a dog of her own, she is happy to be the aunt to all of our teams dogs!
