Dr. Michael D. Carter graduated from Creighton University, in Omaha, Nebraska with a B.S. in Pharmacy. He then attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts where he received his D.M.D. (Doctor of Medical Dentistry) in 1987. While in dental school Dr. Carter became a Registered Pharmacist and worked part-time as a pharmacist in a local hospital.
Dr. Carter then moved to San Diego and entered the Navy as a Lieutenant in the Navy Dental Corps. Dr. Carter was attached to the United States Marine Corps as a dentist for his six years in the military. He served in Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf and was honorably discharged with numerous letters of accommodation and citations as a Lieutenant Commander. While in the Navy Dr. Carter enhanced his education and became a fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Carter then went back to Tufts University School of Dental Medicine where he received his endodontic certificate in 1994. Dr. Carter has been in private practice in San Diego since then. He is an member of several organizations; American Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, California Dental Association and San Diego County Dental Society. Dr. Carter has been active in the dental community; Past President of the Paul Revere Study Club, past Chairman of the Continuing Education Committee for the San Diego County Dental Society, and currently serves on the Peer Review Committee for the San Diego County Dental Society.
Dr. Carter enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He loves hearing about his son's experience on the University of Notre Dame Men's Lacrosse team and his daughter's excursions as an Outdoor Adventure leader at Boston College. In San Diego he enjoys hiking along the coast with his family. While at home everyone enjoys the company of his friendly golden retriever Marley.
In closing, Dr. Carter is consistently selected by his peers to receive the San Diego Magazines Top Dentists Award. Top Dentists is based on an exhaustive peer review survey in which hundreds of dentists and specialists throughout San Diego County vote on the skills, competence and chair side manners of other dentists and specialists.

I was referred over to Dr. Carter's office for a root canal after being in excruciating pain. Dr. Carter is a true professional and told me everything he was going to do/was doing during the procedure. He made sure I was completely numb and comfortable during my treatment. If you are in need of a top endodontist, Dr. Carter is your man! I am so grateful to Dr. Carter and his staff for taking excellent care of me.

I just got referred to Dr. Carter. My first impressions are: Friendly and inviting staff, well maintained office and professionalism to its finest. Meeting Dr. Carters assistant was a great pleasure, she ensured safety and cleanliness was followed to reduce any chance of spreading any types of unwanted disease. Upon meeting Dr. Carter he was very friendly and very knowledgeable within his field of expertise. The examination was very thorough, comfortable and he explained exactly what the issue is. No pressure beyond that point of trying to get me to fix it, instead I was more than happy to proceed with a scheduled repair at a very early time frame. Overall, Dr. Carter, facility and staff are very highly recommended if you need some professional help with your teeth. Thanks for all you do! I can't wait to get this problem resolved.

I've had I think 5 root canals done by Dr. Carter over the years, he and his staff have always been really nice and very accommodating. More than once he's had me come in during after hours or off days to do a root canal because I was in pain. He also always called me later on in the day following the procedure to do a check up and ask how I was feeling or if there was any problems. I seriously recommend coming to him for any of your endodontic needs.

I hadn't even been rejected from a girl this fast :| Let me get this out of the way, Dr. Carter is amazing at what he does. I had a root canal done last year around this time and it healed perfectly. It was the second try after my previous doctor messed it up leaving some roots uncleaned. Now today after the yearly check up, I was about to ask if he could take a look at another tooth I had a funny feeling about, whether I need to get it checked. Before I could finish my sentence he said no, "I am not going to check another tooth" and left. I understand if you need to get paid for the services you offer, but going above and beyond is what creates customer royalty... Thank you Dr Carter for your past service, and goodbye Update: Later in the date Dr.Carter called me and suggested a follow up session which was nice

Have had 2 root canals, by Dr Carter, on 2 different occasions. No pain! (Other than the initial injection. Pinch) During the 2nd, I began to fall asleep. Local anesthetic only.

Yesterday, after 7 weeks of pain episodes, we figured out it was a tooth and Dr. Carter saw him on an urgent basis on a late Friday afternoon. Within an hour, he had performed the root canal and saved my husband's tooth.

I had a horrible experience. Staff was not friendly nor was Dr. Carter. He didn't even introduce himself when he entered the room to start my root canal. When he was done he said NOTHING. The chair was adjusted, I turned around and he was gone. He has zero bedside manner. He didn't explain anything. I ended up getting an infection in the tooth he worked on a year later. I can't say it was his fault 100% but just one more reason to never receive treatment from him again. I just saw another Endodontist who Cleared the infection and WOW..what a DIFFERENCE!! Comparing the experiences is like night and day!

A root canal is nothing anyone looks forward to... EVER! But Dr. Carter made sure I was comfortable and he talked me through each step. Great doc and a wonderful staff too. Everyone was super friendly. If you have to have a dreaded root canal, I highly recommend him and his staff.

I had a horrible experience. Staff was not friendly nor was Dr. Carter. He didn't even introduce himself when he entered the room to start my root canal. When he was done he said NOTHING. Dr. Carter is one of the best endodontist in San Diego. He is very professional and he likes to explain all details about the procedure before you decide. Three years ago, I had really bad pain and infection on my tooth and i went to Dr. Carter. He took my nerve out and put the temporary filling for me, i was planning on finishing the work when i go back to Turkey. But i didn't have any time when i was in Turkey and also tooth was feeling ok, i didn't have any sensitivity or pain anymore. So i didn't get that tooth done till today :) everything was done in 40 min without any pain. If you need a specialist i definitely recommend Dr. Carter to anyone! He is a life saver.
