Following college, Dr. Carter attended dental school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. She graduated summa cum laude and earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree. She was also awarded the Public Health award for her efforts to improve care for indigent and underserved populations. She was inducted into the dental honor society Omicron Kappa Upsilon, which is limited to the top five percent of a graduating dental class.
Upon completion of her dental training, she was accepted into residency at the UT Health Science Center at Houston where she received a Master of Dental Science degree and Certificate in Orthodontics.
Dr. Carter takes an active role in meeting and exceeding the standards of her profession. She is an active member of many professional organizations including the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Oklahoma Dental Association, and the Tulsa County Dental Society.
Emily and her husband, Noah, live in Tulsa with their four children, Liv, Rowan, Finn, and Lael, and their dog, Yoyo. Dr. Carter loves spending time with family and friends. She loves the outdoors, reading, riding horses, and supporting local charities, schools, and businesses.
Dr. Higgins and I both wanted a partner, and we were just so fortunate to be able to find one another. We share all the same values, and we have very similar treatment philosophies. So what that means for our practice is that our patients are going to get great, consistent care.
Dr. Higgins was born in New Jersey and grew up in Delaware. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Molecular Biology from Princeton University. She went on to receive her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, Master of Science degree in Craniofacial Biology, and Certificate in Orthodontics from Columbia University. Dr Higgins also received the Excellence in Orthodontics Award.
While studying at Columbia University, she met her husband, Dr. Chris Higgins, an Interventional Cardiologist and Tulsa native. Prior to moving to Tulsa, Dr. Higgins and her husband lived in New York, North Carolina, and Texas.
Dr. Higgins and her husband live in Tulsa with their two children, Connor and Carter, and their French bulldog, Jerry. Dr. Higgins loves playing tennis, spending time with her family and making a positive difference in peoples lives.
I think Emily is probably one of the most giving, compassionate people that Ive ever met. Not even just as an orthodontist, but as a person. She just sees the good in people and wants to pay it forward, and I feel like thats just so kind hearted for her to do those things.
Dr. Melissa Trumbo was born in the U.S. Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan, and grew up in Zalma, Missouri. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the College of the Ozarks in Branson, MO, before getting her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. During her graduation, Dr. Trumbo was sworn in as a U.S. Navy lieutenant to provide general dentistry services to active duty military members and their families.
Dr. Trumbo spent four years in Okinawa, Japan, and touring several countries in Asia working as a general dentist. Shes traveled to Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Taiwan, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Hong Kong.
She returned to the United States and Las Vegas, where she began her residency at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. There, she studied Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and graduated in 2021.
When shes not caring for patients, Dr. Trumbo enjoys traveling, hiking, cooking, and exercising. Shes a self-proclaimed foodie. She also enjoys spending time with her family husband Ty, sons Fenton and Lennox, and their leopard gecko Rocky.

We had an amazing experience at Carter and Higgins! The staff was friendly and prompt. The facility is clean and welcoming. My son enjoyed seeing Kramer and Jerry every time he visited. I would recommend this orthodontist to friends and family!

Jerry the office dog... might be my #1 favorite person ever. He's so stinkin cute! Doctors Carter and Higgins aren't far behind him -- they're some of the kindest, most genuine people I've ever spoken to. To know them is to love them.

I'm a dental assistant, so I understand the level of care that is expected from a dental office from both an employee, and patient point of view. Carter & Higgins is next level! Every time I walk through the door, I am not only greeted with smiles, but genuine kindness. From Julie at the front desk, to my usual assistants Haley and Kelsi, to Drs. Carter and Higgins, everyone in this office goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable (oh my goodness, massaging chairs?!) every step of the way! I seriously love this place so much, I recommend any of my patients who are interested in orthodontics to go here! They are THE BEST!.

We love it here. My daughter struggles with anxiety and if it weren't for "Jerry" we would have never been able to manage getting braces. Jerry makes all of us including the parents relax.
