The first thing to do is clear the air about where I grew upyes, I am originally a Californian! My upbringing was in the melting pot of Northern Californias Silicon Valley. When I turned the ripe old age of 19, I set off on a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in eastern Ukraine. This unique and humbling experience helped prepare me for a long road of learning ahead. At 21 I came back to the US, and headed straight for college in Rexburg, Idaho, at Brigham Young University-Idaho. Through much thought and inspiration, I had decided towards the end of my mission in Ukraine that I would pursue dentistry, and as soon as I entered college, I set myself on this path.

The spring between my third and fourth year at BYU-Idaho I met my lovely bride to be, and we were married in July of the same year. The next year I graduated with a bachelors degree in science, majoring in biology, and minoring in chemistry. That fall we moved back to California and entered dental school at the prestigious University of Southern California in Los Angeles. We enjoyed a whirlwind four years in LA, and left there in 2010 with two kids, and a dental degree! During my first year at the school I was recruited and accepted a scholarship through the United States Air Force. We left LA soon after graduation, and moved to Texas for my first assignment as an Air Force dentist. This first year was occupied by a training program that taught advanced general dentistry techniques, further enhancing my skills. At the conclusion of the one year of training in Texas we were another child richer, and off to a new adventure, this time in Okinawa, Japan!!

Okinawa was a dream assignment. We had so many unique experiences and really enjoyed island living. Our kids all got to attend a local Japanese pre-school, we travelled to multiple adjacent countries, and did our best to make the most of our time overseas. The year before we left, we even had another baby! During my work at the base dental clinic I came to the firm decision that at the conclusion of my commitment to the Air Force, I would go back to school and train to be an orthodontist. The summer of 2015, after three and a half years living in Japan, we moved back to the states, this time to Columbus, Ohio, where I became both a civilian and a student again.

Columbus was another dream place to be. Such a wonderful community with great people and culture. Id recommend anyone to visit if they have the chance. I was privileged to be part of a five-person class and train at the highly regarded orthodontics program at The Ohio State University. Go Bucks! The three years we spent there again added to the richness of our life experience. No more babies thoughwe left Columbus with the same number that we had when we came!

While living in Columbus, Amy and I gave a lot of thought to where we should go next. We figured that the next place may be the last, and we wanted to make it a great one! We decided upon Montana, and even put a giant map of the state up on the wall in our dining room. Towards the end of my program we still hadnt found the right opportunity in Montana, and ended up settling for a job in Wyoming. In June of 2018 we packed up a U-Haul and drove for three days across the country to our new home in Gillette, Wyoming. We had a great thing going there, and I practiced and learned from some very experienced and knowledgeable orthodontists who were part of the group I worked for. Despite our love for the community and the great job I had, we just couldnt shake off the pull of Montana. It truly was where we wanted to be.

After meeting Dr. Peter Silcher, the former owner and founder of this practice, we decided that our philosophies and plans aligned. After 26 years in the Bitterroot, he was ready to retire, and I was ready to carry on his mantle as the Valleys orthodontist. In April of 2020, at the start of one of the most trying times of this generation, I officially became the proud new owner of Silcher Orthodontics, and transitioned it to Carroll Orthodontics. It was a very strange first few months. In fact, as soon as I took over, I had to shut the practice down for six weeks! We assumed normal operation in mid-May of that year, and continued to navigate with caution the challenges of this new normal.

Our family truly feels blessed to be here in the Bitterroot Valley. I feel a great sense of responsibility to take excellent care of every person who walks through our doors. Our path to this place has been long and twisty, but theres no place I can think of that we would rather be! During the summer well be exploring the many hiking trails of the valley, or floating the river through town. In the winter, you can find us almost any Saturday skiing up at Lost Trail. Come say hi!

Best decision I've ever made! I chose to get braces as an adult because I didn't like my smile. Dr. Carroll and his team paid meticulous attention to detail, were very kind and helpful, and I absolutely love how my smile looks now. Thank you so much!
