Jessica is a Registered Dental Hygienist who we had been eagerly awaiting to join our team in 2014 soon after graduation. She received her Associate in Applied Science, Dental Hygiene from York Technical College where she earned two awards for academic excellence including one from the South Carolina Dental Association. Jessica is also a 2007 graduate of the University of South Carolina where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Jessica is committed to continuing education in order to provide the most up to date care available Jessica is passionate about educating her patients in improving and maintaining their oral health and she always focuses on patient comfort throughout every visit.

Lori attended West Liberty State College in West Virginia and graduated with her associate degree in Dental Hygiene in 1984. Following graduation Lori has worked in a periodontal office as a hygienist, at The Ohio State University in the dental implant research program, and as a consultant for dental practices with Paragon Management.

Lori was also previously the office manager at the endodontic practice in Ohio in which Dr. Rachel had been an associate prior to opening Carolina Periodontics & Endodontics in 2010. Once Dr. Rachel began to practice without Lori she realized our practice would not be complete without her. So, with many discussions and the promise of nicer weather in South Carolina we were excited to have Lori join our team in the summer of 2011.

When not on the phone with insurance companies, Lori enjoys staying active outdoors, especially by roller-blading. Lori also is a proud foster parent and loves making a difference in the lives of the children she is blessed to be with.

Heather grew up in upstate New York and moved to the Fort Mill/Rock Hill area in 2001. Heather joined our team in February 2017 after taking time off from the dental field to enjoy her young children. Heather's career in the field of dentistry goes back 10 years and she is happy and excited to be back helping patients in any way she can.

Katie joined our family in January of 2012 following a move from Tucson, Arizona to Fort Mill. Katie is originally from Pennsylvania but moved out to Arizona and graduated from the dental assisting school at the Pima Medical Institute in 2011. Katie worked briefly in Tucson before realizing how much nicer South Carolina would be and relocated.

When not enthusiastically greeting and caring for our patients, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband and her 2 wonderful children at their basketball games, as well as driving her children too and from these basketball events. She loves running, going to the beach, and as mentioned previously, driving her kids around for basketball. It's no wonder why she has found South Carolina to be such a nice place to call home!

Megan is a native of Rock Hill and graduated from Rock Hill High School. She joined our team in June 2016, shortly after graduating from the dental assisting program at Palmetto School of Career Development in Rock Hill.

Dr. Chad Matthews was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL for his undergraduate education, receiving a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry. He received his dental training at The University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, graduating in 2006 as a Doctor of Dental Medicine. Dr. Matthews then attended The Ohio State University General Practice Residency, receiving a Certificate in 2007. During this time he cared for many special needs patients and spent a large amount of time in the hospital caring for severely medically compromised patients. Following this training he was accepted into the Periodontology program at the Ohio State Univeristy, and in 2010 he received his Certificate in Periodontology and Masters of Science in Dentistry. During this time he underwent extensive training in surgical procedures to correct gum disease, correct recession, and place dental implants. In the summer of 2011 Dr. Matthews officially became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a distinction that is limited to approximately one third of all practicing periodontists.

Dr. Matthews was actively involved in research both at The University of Kentucky as well as at The Ohio State University. In 2009 Dr. Matthews was selected to participate in the Balint Orban Competition at the annual American Academy of Periodontology meeting in Boston. This competition selects the top research projects submitted by periodontal residents across the country, and represents the highest competition a resident can be selected to participate in. Dr. Matthews has also presented his research at numerous meetings including the International Association of Dental Researchers.

Dr. Rachel Matthews was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois. She attended Bradley University in Peoria for her undergraduate education, graduating in 2002 with a Bachelor's of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology. She then attended The University of Kentucky College of Dentistry for her dental training, graduating with a Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree in 2006. Following her time in Kentucky, Dr. Matthews was accepted into the Endodontics Residency Program at The Ohio State University, and In 2008 she received her Certificate in Endodontics and Masters of Science in Dentistry. During this time she underwent extensive training in non-surgical and surgical root canal procedures using the most current technology available.

I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Rachel. The procedure was quick and painless. Even working in the dental field, I still get anxious about procedures. Dr. Rachel and staff eased my mind and made it effortless.

Having a tooth broken at the gum line, my dentist referred me to Dr. Rachel Matthews. This is the 3rd endodontist I have had and way by far and above the best experience (as far as these things go). She was super friendly, empathetic, precise and explained everything to me, answered my questions and was simply great.

The absolute BEST doctors and staff, hands down!!! I have only ever had 3 fillings in my entire life. When I started having tooth pain and swelling, I went to my dentist that said I probably needed a root canal. I was petrified! I had NO idea what was going to happen. Dr. Rachel Matthews and her assistant Emalee are the best. My BP was through the roof. They comforted me and got my husband back with me to calm me down. Afterwards, they started the procedure. They were AWESOME. The procedure lasted about 45 minutes and it was done. Dr. Matthews and her staff are professional, caring, and empathetic to their patients. Thank you to the Dr. Matthews and the staff! I am on the road to recovery!

My wife wanted sedation for her root canal after an anxious experience at a different office. The receptionist, Lori I believe, was very condescending to my wife for wanting to be sedated. She then calls me because my wife was going to be seen next week but because of Lori, we shopped for another endodontic office. When she called to confirm that appointment I informed her we went with someone else and she said "Oh, I wish I had known that" very rudely. This office needs a new receptionist

I've had to go here several times over the past year. Dr Matthews is very knowledgeable and sweet. They really try to make you comfortable and the place is very clean and beautiful. I did not have a pleasant experience with their business office manager, Laurie. With almost every interaction, she has been pushy, short, and rude at times. On one specific occasion I went in for a root canal, Dr. Matthews recommended I have something else done first. I appreciated her honesty very much. Laurie tells me that I owe $180 for the consultation because I still spoke to the doctor ( for about 30mn). I asked if she could put the $180 towards the root canal that Dr. Matthews was going to do in a couple weeks and she would not consider it. Dr. Matthews was the one who convinced me to hold off- so I just found Lauries attitude to be very inconsiderate and unprofessional. And thats just one of my negative experiences with her. I would not return because I don't feel I should deal with that kind of service every time I go over a treatment plan or payment. The rest of the staff has always been professional and kind.

So I just came from here and my experience with Dr. Rachel was just excellent (actually, it was great with the whole staff). If you're looking for a place that has compassionate, wonderful doctors, this is the place to go. Not only did Dr. Rachel make sure that I had a pain free and comfortable root canal experience (which I did), but she also reassured me when it came to my dental anxiety etc. I'll need to go back to have some work done on another tooth, and I know that when I go I'll be treated gently and with compassion. Thank you so much Carolina Periodontics and Endodontics for making the experience as pleasant as possible.

I was referred here due to my on going battle to protect my teeth years after radiation treatment. They immediately set up an appointment and over two sessions they made a significant improvement. My follow up to day really encouraged me and am very thankful to have found such a professional and caring Paradontist. I also, want to give credit to my dentist for such a great recommendation.

I just had my root canal on 6/22 I wish I could give more than 5 starts everything to setting up the appointment to the procedure was perfect. I have such anxiety of going to the dentist and had been putting off this root canal for about a year, Dr. Matthews and her assistant were great through the whole process. I put my headphones in and felt barely a ounce of pain during the procedure and felt great after. I'm so glad I made the choice and would reach out again if I need anything else.

In the middle of the COVID stay-at-home order, I suddenly experienced severe nerve pain due to a dying tooth that I didn't even know had been traumatized. My dentist sent me to Dr. Rachel (instead of the endodontist I'd used previously), as hers was the closest practice that was open during the shut-down. I was a bit apprehensive about being "stuck" with a provider just because they were available, but Dr. Rachel was awesome! Not only did she and her staff take every possible precaution to keep me safe from the virus, but the root canal itself was completely painless. In fact, I was so comfortable, I actually fell asleep during it--three times!

I have recently been having issues with a failed root canal. The issue was discovered at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and appointments were hard to come by. The office got me in as soon as they could and Dr. Matthews was such a pleasure to see. She explained to me in detail what was wrong with the tooth and what the treatment plan would be. I was never once in pain while she was doing retreatment of this old root canal and I would 1000% recommend this office to anyone that needed one of the treatments they do.
