Dr. Arauz received his first dental degree (Doctor in Dental Surgery, D.D.S.) from the University of Panama in Panama City, Panama in 1997 and then his second dental degree (Doctor in Dental Medicine, D.M.D.) from Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio in 2004.
He completed his specialty degree in Periodontology at the University of Rochesters world-renowned Eastman Dental Center in New York in 2002, and completed a two-year residency in advanced education in general dentistry (AEGD) and general practice residency (GPR) as well.
While at Case Western Reserve University, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontics and he taught to residents and dental students for five years. He was also Clinic Director of the residency in Periodontics, and directed courses in Implantology, Sedation, and Surgical Periodontics. Additionally, Dr. Arauz was a staff periodontist and consultant in periodontology and dental implants at the Department of Dentistry of the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, and practiced periodontics and dental implantology in private offices located in Westlake, Lyndhurst and Mentor, Ohio.
Dr. Arauz is a Board Certified periodontist, trained in Dental Implant Robotics, Diplomate of The American Board of Periodontology and Dental Implant Surgery. He is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology and the Academy of Osseointegration and the American Board of Periodontology.
Dr. Arauz is the President of the North Carolina Society of Periodontists and a member of the Executive Council of the Southern Academy of Periodontology. He is also Adjunct Faculty of the Periodontology Graduate Program, a department of periodontology at the Adams School of Dentistry, located at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC.
Kerestin is a Certified Dental Assistant who graduated from Coastal Carolina Community College in 2014. After graduating she spent 3 years working in general dentistry and had always had the interest and ambition to work in the periodontal specialty. She joined Dr. Arauzs team September of 2018. Kerestin was born and raised in central Illinois. In her spare time she enjoys reading and spending time with her husband and daughter.
Laura was born and raised on Long Island, New York. She obtained her Associates Degree in business from Briarcliffe College in New York. After graduation she worked in mortgage banking for ten years. She moved to North Carolina in 2009 with family. Laura began to work with Dr. Arauz in December of 2016. Laura enjoys spending time with her family.
Jill is a registered Dental Hygienist who graduated from Coastal Carolina Community College in 2006. She is a local girl from Richlands, NC. She has one son, who she spends all her spare time with. She loves the beach, outdoors, playing sports, and spending time with family.
Cece is one of our Registered Dental Hygienist who graduated from the Dental Hygiene program at Wayne Community College in 2020. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and dogs. Her hobbies are riding horses, taking pictures, cooking and smiling!
Margie is a committed bilingual Scheduling Coordinator with a history of providing exceptional patient care. Experienced in managing all facets of front office administration. She obtained her Associates Degree from Miller Mott College in 2015 and has worked in the Healthcare field for over six years. Her family plays a big part in her life and she loves to spend time with them. In her spare time, she enjoys working on her art work and making hand-crafted jewelry.
Maria is our financial coordinator here at Carolina Dental Specialty Center. She is originally from South Florida where she worked as a medical assistant and moved to Jacksonville with her husband during the Summer of 2019. Maria enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
Katie in the past worked as the lead assistant for Dr. Arauz for almost 5 years. She then moved to Colorado and worked for an Oral Surgeon as an assistant. Katie then moved back from Colorado and is happy to be a part of Dr. Arauzs team again. Katie has a 2 year old daughter and loves spending time outdoors with her daughter and her dog.
Jenn graduated from the Red Cross Dental Program in 2017. She is originally from New Jersey but has been in NC for 8 years. She spends her time with her husband and three daughters. Jenn enjoys collecting her indoor plants and having a good conversation drinking wine with her best friends.
Nicole knew that she wanted to be a dental assistant when she grew up at only six years of age! While living in California, Nicole worked for a general dentist and a Periodontal Office. In her free time, Nicole enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, shopping, making charcuterie boards and cooking/baking!
Tyler Graduated dental assistant school in October 2016. She is originally from Colorado and recently moved to North Carolina in October of 2021. Before working with our office, she worked at a general dentist in Colorado for four years. In her spare time, Tyler loves to watch movies, paint and spend time with her husband and puppy.
Janet started working with Dr. Arauz April of 2018. She was born and raised in North Carolina and has been blessed with three beautiful daughters and one handsome son. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys working on her talk radio show 2 to 3 with Janet Leigh.
Anastasia has been working with Dr. Arauz and his team since 2015. Anastasia is responsible for bookkeeping, accounting and various other duties within the office. She grew up in Clearwater, Florida and moved to Jacksonville in 2012. She was a school counselor for 9 years and has always enjoyed working with children and families. She is married to Dr. Arauz and enjoys spending time with their family.
Cara is your Treatment Coordinator here at Carolina Dental Specialty Center. She has over 8 years of experience in Medical Administration. She has recently relocated to Jacksonville with her husband and their pup, Jazzy. Cara was born and raised in the South Carolina Low Country, where she spent most of her free time on the water.
Kayla works as the marketing specialist and study club coordinator in the practice. She was born and raised in North Carolina and attended ECU. She has a B.S. in Communication with a focus in Public Relations. Kayla worked as a leasing manager for four years before joining our staff in June of 2021. She thoroughly enjoys reading, anything Halloween-related, and slinging wax with Scentsy.

My husband has been a patient of Dr. Arauz for a couple of years. He had an appointment yesterday 8-11-2022 and was very pleased with his care. He's never had any negative issue with the care either given by Dr. Arauz and/or his staff. The front office staff has always been very helpful to me taking payments, verifying appointments, etc.

I can not comprehend the negative reviews about this practice. Dr. Arauz is so good at what he does with a pleasant personality, always made me feel at ease for procedures. He is probably the best periodontist you can ask for. I have had lots of procedures done at this office to treat my gum disease. From the hygienists, technicians, receptionists to the doctor himself are all top notch. They certainly know what they are doing. My periodontal health has improved so much. They always ask for your feedbacks after each appointment to make sure you are satisfied.

Needs a new receptionist. The lady who answered the phone when I tried to make an appointment actually laughed at me when I did not remember the name of my dentist who referred me . I told her the name of the practice , just could not remember the name of the provider . Someone who belittles potential customers should not be answering the phones . Will go elsewhere.

Still the best Periodontal Surgeon in Jacksonville (in my opinion)! He has taken outstanding great care of my gums for well over a decade now. I've had gum infections and surgery in all four quadrants of my mouth. He has kept my gums healthy and infection free. He has a very efficient, professional and friendly staff. I enthusiastically recommend him.

When I attempted to voice concerns about the care of a family member, the Dr. was incredibly rude and made many hurtful insinuations and comments that were inappropriate and unprofessional. I would recommend that people steer clear of this office as they are putting your family member at risk when they refused to assist with mobility after heavy sedation. I can only hope that no sentinel events occur under the watch of such a negligent and disrespectful doctor.

Dr. Arauz and staff are very caring , professional and responsive. Should you have a question their response is either immediate or within minutes. (Once, Dr. Arauz- who prefers to be called "Jose"- returned my call while he was traveling in another country)They strive to make the patient comfortable. The office uses the latest technology in which they are throughly trained. My implant surgery was ROBOT assisted. All in all I'm VERY impressed with this practice.

I have never given a doctor five stars. But, when two other periodontists and a half-dozen general dentists failed to diagnose a problem that has caused me pain for seven years, I give Dr. Arauz five-stars. And, I've never experienced a more professional, friendly staff. He must be a great to work for. Thanks, Dr. Arauz!

Where do I start... well to start I just want to say how grateful I am to have had such a great experience with such an amazing staff. I was worried about getting surgery for the process of an implant, but after today I'm just so relieved and thankful. Everything went so well, and I'm excited for the next step. Sought out Dr. Arauz after complications with my wisdom teeth extraction. I had developed an infection and was required to have a debridement. I was still sick and in extreme pain from drainage over the weekend following my second surgery. I was unable to get ahold of my oral surgeon but was able to speak to Dr. Arauz on the phone that Saturday morning. Even though I wasn't a patient, he took the time to listen to my concerns and symptoms. I fully understand that it was the weekend and my oral surgeon has a family but so does Dr. Arauz. It was an emergency and I felt relieved that he wasn't dismissive or allowed hubris to get in the way of taking me seriously. He said he would be more than happy to fit me on Monday if I wanted to follow up with him. I felt like he was a good choice even though he is periodontist and not specifically an oral surgeon because he has his DMD and graduated from Case Western Reserve University just like my Oral surgeon and the reviews I saw online were encouraging. I noticed right away when stepping into the office that he puts money into his practice, not just his pockets, by the beautiful and tasteful art work along with brand new equipment and a well versed staff. At my appointment he was very patient and thorough, not trying to rush off to treat someone else. I have two follow up appointments with him this week to further address why the site is still not healing properly and I feel comforted and hopeful by his proficient expertise.

Dr. Arauz removed my wisdom teeth to assist in continuing with my orthodontic treatment. He did amazing, near painless procedure (4 extractions), and excellent recovery. No bruising or swelling. The office staff even contacted me after my procedure to ensure I was recovering good. Thank you Dr. Arauz & team!
