Dr. Amanda Cerqueira grew up in a dental household. Her father graduated from the UNC school of Dentistry in 1968 and practiced for over 50 years. Her mother was a Dental Assistant. Dr. Cerqueira grew up watching her father perform General Dentistry in their small town outside of Raleigh, NC and at seven years old was assisting him chairside after school, dreaming of the day she would become a Dentist herself.

That day finally came when Dr. Cerqueira graduated from her father 's Alma Mater as part of the UNC School of Dentistry class of 2003. While attending UNC Chapel Hill, Dr. Cerqueira was voted 'Most Valuable Dental Student' by her peers and professors. She was also chosen to be part of a select group of students assigned with the heartbreaking task of identifying deceased patients from a plane crash in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Cerqueira worked directly with faculty to be the first student to attend UNC 's dental rotation in Brazil. While at UNC, Dr. Cerqueira also volunteered at the Murdock Center for mentally handicapped individuals and the Dental Bus.

Dr. Cerqueira met her husband Daniel while obtaining her undergraduate degree at UNC Wilmington. After attending UNC Chapel Hill, Dr. Cerqueira worked at her father's practice for 2 years. Those valuable years gave Dr. Cerqueira tremendous exposure to all aspects of Dentistry and helped solidify the great education she received at UNC. The appeal of returning to the town Dr. Cerqueira and Daniel loved so much was hard to resist however, so in 2005 they decided to relocate and open Carolina Beach Family Dentistry.

Daniel's Management and Customer Service backgrounds, combined with Dr. Cerqueira's clinical skills proved to be a perfect match and the practice experienced tremendous growth. Although the practice grew fast via word of mouth, Dr. Cerqueira and Daniel never lost sight of the most important thing - patient care.

They had always envisioned a practice with a high focus on quality, while at the same time saving the patient money by practicing in a conservative and detailed manner. The demand for services was great, so in 2017 Dr. Sarah Kinsley joined the practice. Her focus on quality and conservative dentistry were a perfect match to Dr. Cerqueira's philosophies. Having Dr. Kinsley on board also allowed the practice to expand it's hours and most importantly, to do it in a controlled manner without losing it's focus on the quality and personal approach to care the practice is known for.

We were pleasantly surprised when, over the years, a huge part of our patient base came from over the bridge. The main reasons cited were the quality of our care and recommendations from friends (thank you!), but one other (not so surprising) reason was that patients who lived off the island preferred driving towards Carolina Beach versus towards town. They also mentioned how easy it was to park and get to our office (at the foot of the bridge, so they didnt have to drive through Carolina Beach). Finally, a big reason patients came was for the same reason we came. To be near the ocean and experience the sense of decompression driving over the Snows Cut Bridge provides. There is just something about this Island and the ocean that draws us, and probably draws you too! When you enter our office, the Island feel continues. While we take the practice of Dentistry extremely seriously, we still enjoy great music, a warm atmosphere and being happy while at work. It is not uncommon to have patients drop by just to say hi or to get a cup of the Espresso always available at our lobby. Please feel free to stop by anytime and meet us. That day finally came in May of 2003, when she graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill, where she was voted Most Outstanding Dental Student by her peers and professors. During her years at UNC, Dr. Cerqueira volunteered at the Murdoch Center Dental Clinic for mentally challenged individuals. She was also invited to serve on the forensic dentistry identification team that covered a Charlotte, NC plane crash in 2003. She volunteered on the North Carolina Baptist Association Dental Bus for underserved individuals, and she was the first dental student to attend an international rotation in Florianopolis,Brazil.

Upon graduating from UNC, Dr. Cerqueira went back to her hometown to practice with her father. Dentistry in a small town was exciting, allowing her to perform a wide variety of procedures. The ocean and the town she loved so much, however, were too far away. With that in mind, Dr. Cerqueira decided to open her own practice in Carolina Beach. She has been overwhelmed by the warm reception given to her and her style of dentistry by the community. The practice has grown tremendously thanks to her patients support and referrals.

Today, she continues to strive to make every single one of her patients feel special by getting to know them and giving them the highest level of service. She enjoys offering different alternatives and solutions in order to create beautiful, healthy smiles and happy patients.

My favorite part of the day is the time I spend interacting with my patients. I enjoy getting to know them. My main goal is to solve their dental problems in the most conservative way while striving for the longest-lasting results. I believe in educating patients so they can make informed decisions regarding their care. I love teaching people how to maintain their smiles for life, and I will do everything in my power to give them the best possible dental care.

When she is away from her patients, Dr. Cerqueira enjoys spending quality time with her husband, Daniel, two daughters and cute dog, Zico. She also loves gardening, Thai and Indian food, traveling to the beautiful NC mountains and biking the trails there, cross-training and yoga. She picks around on the piano and occasionally gets a yearning to create, so she will paint a picture. Dr. Cerqueira attends Port City Community Church with her family and volunteers in the elementary-age childrens program.
