Dr. Richard Carlson has been a trusted dental expert in the Jacksonville area for over 35 years. He is a gentle, caring dentist who prides himself on not only keeping up to date with the most recent dental studies, but also the most advanced techniques and lifelike materials. He practices comfortable, health-centered dentistry with a strong emphasis on getting to know each patient. Growing up, Dr. Carlson was constantly the subject of ridicule because his lower jaw was noticeably larger than his upper jaw. This condition was so bad that he eventually needed to undergo surgery when he was 22. This gave him the drive to pursue a career that would allow him to help people look and feel good about themselves. He also wanted to be able to provide everything his patients could possibly need himself, which is why he has gone above and beyond to learn everything he can about all aspects of oral healthcare.
Dr. Carlson attended Marshall University in West Virginia on academic and swimming scholarships, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He received his doctorate at the University of Florida College of Dentistry. He furthered his dental studies at the University of Texas in their hospital-based General Practice Residency Program; less than 10% of all dentists nationwide have completed such rigorous training. Dr. Carlson has attended the prestigious Misch Implant Institute and completed a residency focused on TMJ disorders at the University of Florida. He has also taught at the University of Floridas Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Program for over a decade. He is a trusted leader in the dental community, having lectured on various advanced topics, such as cosmetic dentistry and complicated treatment planning.
Dr. Carlson loves to be outdoors, and his wife shares the same interest in staying active while enjoying nature. They like to bike (electric bikes), golf, kayak, boat, play pickleball, and snow ski. They are also the proud parents of three daughters who they try to see as often as possible.

I had to get a crown done this morning. Dr Murray and Tyra is the assistant. I honestly didn't feel the shot. He's so gentle. Tyra was great in making my temporary . The office is very professional. I know they have 2 other Dentist there too. My mouth is getting the feeling back so it's not lasting 4 hours later. I'm so glad I found a dentist close by. I worked for a dentist in Yulee before we moved here. It was hard to find one that was good and gentle.

Old school dentist with high end technology. You will not feel like you are being sold products and services you do not need. This practice is how dentists should be - there for the care of their patients and not out to make extra money on upselling. The dentists care so much that they discussed my daughter's chart and history together the night before her appointment to best prep for her particular diagnosis. I can't say enough about this practice.

Best dentist I've ever been to! If you have any worries about the dentist, this is the place for you! Brittany was my hygienist, she was so warm and kind. Answered any questions I had and made sure to explain everything in a way that I could understand. The front desk coordinator was also very kind and helpful with all my paperwork etc as I was a new patient. Dr Murray did my exam and was amazing! He was extremely warm and friendly, asked me questions about dental history, really covered his bases. They even were familiar with my connective tissue disorder and asked me questions about that! Above all else, that made a huge difference to me. I literally called yesterday to make an appointment and they got me scheduled for today. Within 24 hours. I've never had a dentist accommodate me that quickly. This team deserves all the appreciation they can get!

I usually have anxiety when I go to the dentist but I don't anymore since going to Dr. Lee. He is the best dentist I have ever went to. Everyone is the office is great!

I debated between 1 or 2 stars and ultimately, decided on the lowest rating possible. If you're going in for a cleaning, you'll be fine. It's the advanced dentistry experience that made me leave the practice. A few years ago, I saw Dr Lee for a crown replacement where I ended up returning THREE different times to have the new crown fit right. On the third visit, I felt that he gave up in a sense and settled for the subpar crown. It still didn't fit quite right and the gap between the adjacent tooth was enlarged compared to my former crown. Miraculously, CDG's crown managed to stay put for about six years. That changed when it started to get loose recently, which caught me by surprise given that my former crown of over a decade (different dentist) had no issues before the crack. At this point I already switched dentists, however, I decided to see if CDG was able to repair the crown to minimize out-of-pocket cost. Upon my exam, Dr. Lee finagles with the loose crown until I suddenly felt a stern grip on it. He was trying to tear the loose crown off. Not once was I informed of the dental plan nor included on this decision. The exam was stopped promptly. Long story short, Dr Lee wasn't able to re-seal the crown. Rightfully so, my new dentist took care of the crown replacement. It was only after the loose CDG crown was removed when the ineptitude was exposed. The substance used to fill the area to prep a crown was overfilled to the point that never gave the new crown a standing chance to correctly form a bond. My current dentist and dental assistant were both amazed at the crude work executed. It's safe to say I will continue my business elsewhere and not recommend this practice.

The front desk lady was really nice and sweet. The doctor seemed okay but seemed eager too just send me off to another endodontist when they do that there. He said that the other Endo would be able to get in sooner, it's been about 2 3 weeks now and I haven't heard anything anyways so it's laughable . Maybe the work on teeth is good but I won't know. Won't go back.

I switched dentists due to my previous being rough and having generally unpleasant bedside manner. The dentist chair is my absolute least favorite place on earth but Dr. Harris and all the associates set me up for success. I am so relieved to have found such a caring dental provider who makes what is normally a miserable experience for me much more tolerable. I can't thank them enough.

In my own personal experience with dental procedures ........I have never been more privileged than to be introduced and to be for hither tied to Chelsey Grace from Carlton Denistry. She is the utmost as well as in my humble opinion THE G O A T ... She is by far the most dedicated... and the most truly genuine hygienist I have ever ever had (the pleasure of meeting!!!) Her special quality...is known by her coworkers. Her (particularly) aka attention to all detail is also known by this individual as well as many others but it is very very very and truly appreciated. My long list of previous concerns were summarily vanquished. And Her true dedication to the craft was revealed as unquestionable and unassailable.THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!! I have been with Carlson Dental Group for over 16 years. Their dentists and entire team is outstanding. I can honestly not remember when I have ever waited more than 2 minutes in the waiting room. And it's usually less than that. They are masters of their craft. They truly set the bar for dentistry and customer service.

Truly a first rate dental group who has handled my dental needs with efficient information and first class service. During one of my dental appointment, I had a unexpected reaction to the nitrous oxide, The staff's professional reaction and care during this episode was simply outstanding. Sarah, my dental hygienist, closely monitored my vitals and Dr. Murray provided detailed tracking information and written report. Their efforts were vital to my specialist doctors at Mayo Clinic being able to investigate the cause and provided the specific guidance for future dental procedures. The entire staff was calm and ensured that I was medically okay to return home after the procedure. This kind of service is what all medical offices should provide, regardless of the specific practice or medical specialty. I highly recommend Carlson Dental Group for dental procedures and I can only say thank you for their care and medical expertise in dealing with my dental work.

I was a patient for three years and had a decent experience, I had a crown put in and to me it never really felt right. Well, I moved out of state and my new dentist told me that there is a defect in the way CDG made my crown and it needed to be replaced. I reached out to Carlson and they gave me the run around and didn't get back to me for two plus weeks, and it was only after I called them repeatedly, finally their solution was to send a new crown to my new dentist (but my new dentist doesn't trust they won't make the same defect so the new crown can't even be used). Carlson DG asked my new dentist to reach out and they called and left messages with CDG and no one has reached out. Now I am left to pay out of pocket for a crown that I already paid for because Carlson won't reimburse me. Worst of all they said it was my fault that the crown was defective, even though my new dentist assures me it's a manufacturing defect.

Office staff totally on crack. They told me that prescriptions were called in, but the did not do so. The same with a referral. They charged me differently for the same services. They even said that they filled two teeth when they did not. I have lost two teeth because of their incompetence.
