Dr. Richard Carlson has been serving Jacksonville families for over 35 years, and in that time, he has provided countless smiles with gentle and fully personalized care. Despite having decades of experience, he works diligently to stay on top of the most recent dental studies so he can apply the latest techniques and consistently deliver beautiful, lifelike results. With him, his goal is to not only give a patient a healthy smile, but one they are always eager to show off as well.
When Dr. Carlson was 22, he had to have surgery because his lower jaw grew larger than his upper jaw. He was made fun of because of this for his entire life, so he dedicated himself to helping people look and feel good about themselves. This gave him the drive to learn as much as possible about every aspect of dentistry so patients wouldnt have to rely on multiple doctors to get everything they need.
Dr. Carlson obtained a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Marshall University in West Virginia, attending on both academic and swimming scholarships. He then completed his initial dental training at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, but his education definitely didnt stop there. He then made his way to the University of Texas and completed a hospital-based residency. This type of program involves rigorous training that is completed by less than 10% of all dentists in the U.S. Dr. Carlson then went on to teach at the University of Floridas Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Program. Hes attended the prestigious Misch Implant Institute and completed a mini-residency at the University of Florida focused on TMJ disorders.
Dr. Carlson and his wife have three daughtersthe oldest is a teacher at the University of Florida, the second is an operations manager for a large events company, and the youngest is a junior at Florida State University. Both Dr. Carlson and his wife love the outdoors, so youll often find them biking, golfing, kayaking, boating, or snow skiing.
