Dr. Helen Bono is originally from the Greater Richmond, Virginia area, and she knew from the age of 12 that she wanted to be a dentist. She started her educational journey by majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Biology at Radford University, earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia, and completed a two year postdoctoral residency in Pediatric Dentistry at University of Illinois at Chicago. During her residency, she gained additional expertise in dental trauma, sedation, and behavior management. Dr. Bono has completed the two-part board certification process, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Bono is kind, friendly, approachable, and she loves interacting with children and their parents. She prefers approaching dentistry using a cheerful attitude, evidence-based dentistry, and genuine concern for the best interest of her patients.
Dr. Bono is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and attends the AAPD annual session and other local conferences to keep up to date with topics in pediatric dentistry. As a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist, Dr. Bono strives to give her patients a positive and comfortable experience. She has participated in dental service projects in Virginia such as Give Kids A Smile Day, Special Olympics, the Missions of Mercy oral health projects, and the Charlottesville Free Clinic.

I switched my daughter from another practice, looking for a nice quiet environment, have our needs met and a Dr to take her time and focus on one patient at a time. Well we have found just that! We could not be any happier. Dr Bono is amazing and so gentle, her and her staff make my daughter feel so comfortable.So happy we made the switch. Thanks Dr Bono and staff!!

Dr Bono and her staff were great. This was my Son's first dentist appointment and Dr Bono did a great job demonstrating how to get the kid to allow me to brush his teeth, which had been a struggle to this point. We are looking forward to the next appointment!

My son has been here 3x due to having a dental procedure done. Every visit the staff was extremely nice &helpful. Dr. Bono is the sweetest &very knowledgeable in her field. She takes the time to explain everything &answer any additional questions. I also find it very nice the this dentistry follows up w/ a phone call after the procedure later in the day to see how the little one is doing . 10/10 highly recommend

We had a fantastic experience with Dr. Bono and her team. They were so kind and caring with my 5 year old and my 14 yr old felt like she was respected and treated like she was responsible in her own care. Fabulous team and beautiful facility. Absolutely will continue treatment with this practice.

Wonderful experience! All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. This was my daughter's first visit to the dentist. Everything went as well as expected and we'll see them again!

I would recommend cardinal dentistry to everyone!, Dr. B and the staff are wonderful. The atmosphere is very welcoming. My children felt very comfirtable there so if your looking for a pediatric dentist, look no more. Make an appointment you will not be disappointed.

Dr. Bono and her assistant went above and beyond for my child. She was able to see my 3.5 year old basically immediately for a broken tooth. I did not feel rushed or that I was inconveniencing them with our "emergency". Dr. Bono is kind and patient. The office is extremely clean, with obvious extra care to being such. I am very thankful for this office coming through for me and I feel so good about the care my little one received.

Very kid-friendly atmosphere, open and bright floor plan to make kids feel comfortable. TV's on the ceiling! Staff and Dr. went out of their way to make my son feel comfortable about his upcoming procedure. Wish I would have found them sooner! :)

Amazing practice! Everyone is super friendly and welcoming! My daughter has a really hard time with trips to the dentist. This was our first time here and Dr.Bono was so comforting, that my daughter left saying she really likes this place! I highly recommend!

My children, as well as myself, love it here! Have not had the greatest experience with other "pediatric" practices in the past. Typically being that not all of the staff seemed capable or experienced with children and their anxieties when it comes to dental exams and such. Before taking my hesitant teenager and rambunctious, playful, (not always cooperative ) 20month old, I researched online to find an actual family friendly pediatric dentistry. After seeing reviews from others, I am so grateful to have found and chosen Cardinal for their care! The environment is top notch, and clean! Bean bag chairs and TV area that are colorful, but warm and inviting. The staff ...I mean , EVERYONE we've encountered has been welcoming and made sure to greet and acknowledge both of the children! They were great with helping to round up my toddler when he wanted to explore lol and knew what to say, in order to encourage him to open up and willingly participate in his exam/cleaning. They're wonderful easing my teens worries by communicating with her directly, and engaging her in conversations. Both of them end up leaving happy, content, and proud after their visits.
