Dr. Caravas is a native of Portsmouth, VA. He attended Virginia Tech and graduated from dental school in 1982 from the Medical College of Virginia. Following a residency at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C., Dr. Caravas began practicing dentistry in Tidewater. He has enjoyed a solo practice in Virginia Beach since 1984. Dr. Caravas moved to his current location in 2011.
Dr. Caravas is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, Virginia Dental Association and the Tidewater Dental Association. Dr. Caravas is married and has three children. When not practicing dentistry, he enjoys fishing (any tips?), gardening, golfing and traveling with his sweet wife, Cindy. Dr. Caravas is involved at Grace Bible Church and leads a bible study on Friday mornings at the church. After practicing over four decades he still loves dentistry, is constantly striving to improve and hopes to work until at least age 76. It is the best job in the whole world!!
Ive lived in the Hampton Roads area since the age of 2. My career in the dental field started in 1982 as a chairside assistant . Over the years I discovered that organization and paperwork were more my niche. So I moved to the front desk handling insurance claims and accounts. I have been happily working for Dr. Caravas since February, 1997.I am married and have a grown son in the U.S. Coast Guard. In my spare time I love to travel, cook, and play with my cat, Stewie.
I knew I wanted to be a dental hygienist since the 7th grade. After graduating from Trinity Episcopal High School in Richmond, I attended Old Dominion University where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene in May 1980. In 1981 I married my husband Kelly and moved to Virginia Beach. While raising our son Stephen (who is now attending dental school in Richmond), I continued my career. I have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Caravas since 1986. I have enjoyed assisting our patients in maintaining their oral health from their youth, through adulthood and parenthood. I now see many of my patients children!
My journey in dentistry began in Annapolis, Maryland in 1969 when I started working after school and on weekends as a dental assistant. Our hygienist encouraged me to consider a career in dental hygiene, and upon noticing that she was the happiest person in the office I decided that was the choice for me.
My Navy pilot husband and I received orders to Florida where I completed dental hygiene training and graduated in 1975. Our next duty station was Virginia Beach. Ive had the privilege of working for Dr. Caravas since 1985.
Ive been Dr. Caravas assistant since 2000. I love working chairside directly with all of our wonderful patients. I have over 20 years experience as a dental assistant, earning my certification at Pitt Community College in North Carolina.
Hi!! My family and I have been in the VA Beach area since 2002. In this timeI took almost 10 years off to focus on my family. I am also a military wifeof 13 years, I was lucky enough to marry my high school love. We have 3beautiful children and our fur baby. I enjoy spending time with family nearand far, as well as just hanging out at home building and crafting with mychildren and husband. I was welcomed back to the workforce with an officefull of love, laughs and understanding. It's already been a year and I'mstill excited to be a part of this team!

I think the best endorsement I can give is that I will happily drive through morning rush hour HRBT traffic from Newport News to see Dr. Caravas! The entire office is filled with the absolute nicest, most genuine people I have ever encountered in a medical office of any kind. You can tell each and every one of them actually cares about you and your health. Dr. Caravas is very kind and approachable with questions and concerns, and very skilled. He expertly repaired a chipped front tooth for me and you can't even tell that anything was ever wrong with it! I never once felt rushed in my appointment, which is not something I've experienced in other medical offices. All of my concerns were completely addressed and solved in the first visit. The front desk staff is also absolutely amazing. They were both very patient with me and answered all my questions about insurance (and there were many). The billing process was transparent, honest, and fair - another rarity! I am SO happy I found this office and will continue to happily make the drive to be a patient here!

My wife and I have been going to Jerry Caravas DDS for over 30 years. Even our son, who is now almost 28, was a patient of Dr.Caravas since he was a toddler! His office is like family - his staff and amazing dental hygienists are always there to greet with a smile and to make our visits so pleasant.

We have used this dental practice for many years. They are the absolute best. Customer service and friendliness is first in everything they do. Our experience with all the staff has been wonderful. Their services are great, prices are fair, and they can always make time in their busy schedules for us. We found them thru referral from a pediatric dentist and they will be our dentist for as long as we have dental needs.

I have been going to Dr. Caravas for about 3 years now & he is the best dentist I've ever had. Everyone there treats you like family, & they even followed up with me the day after a crown procedure to make sure I was doing ok. Dr. Caravas & his staff are very caring and I definitely recommend them!

A co-worker referred me to Dr. Caravas and I am happy to have found him. The staff is friendly and helpful. The hygienist is gentle when cleaning my teeth. Appointments are processed on time, no waiting in lobby for extended time and service is timely so that I get in and out with no hold ups.

Need a highly-skilled, caring dentist with a great office staff? Look no farther. For the 20 or so years that I've been going to Dr. Caravas, I've appreciated the consistently good care I receive - every single time. Anna, the hygienist I see, provides not only thorough cleanings, but extremely useful health tips! Dr. Caravas has done excellent dental work for me (checkups and fillings), and when I needed a graft to cover a recession, he referred me to a great periodontist. As a bonus, he even has a great sense of humor! The admin office staff is both professional and just plain nice. I consider them all friends and highly recommend them.

Wonderful dentist with a great staff. They stay on schedule so I've never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for my appointment. The front desk ladies are always smiling and friendly. My dental hygienist is so sweet and great to chat with (I don't know how she remembers so many details about my kids LOL). Dr. Caravas is warm and good-natured...and quick! Makes a trip to the dentist a pleasant experience!!!
