This is the place. If you want to feel like you're the only that matters before, at your visit and after, this is the place you want to call your dental office. I had an issue I neglected, and due to my negligence I started experiencing pain on Friday, that progressed and was un manageable by Sunday. I called the "after hours" with little hope that I'd get the help I needed quickly. Early on in the year I was in disagreement with the office over billing, but I reached out via text anyway, on a Sunday afternoon. I got a text back and a phone call from Dr. Doyle himself, he assured me the office would make time for me the next day to address it. The following morning I got a call very first thing in the morning, before the office had even opened to fit me in their schedule. I was in the chair getting fixed by 9am. A follow up call the same night to make sure I was doing good and A week later I was better than ever, and I have this office to thank. They went out of their way to help me, they made my inconvenience their inconvenience and I'll be forever grateful for the quick help and excellent care I got here. I'm grateful for the whole staff, very understanding, sympathetic and caring.

The Good: Hygienists--I can't say enough good things about the hygienists. They are fabulous, friendly, and thorough. I have cold-sensitive teeth and they consistently use techniques to make me as comfortable as possible. Their level of service is unparalleled by any dental office I've ever been to. They also used to do a fun, funky spa-like wax treatment. Technology--The dental office embraces new technology, and work can often be done in fewer appointments, with greater ease. Dentist--The dentist is friendly and attentive and I genuinely feel that he has patients' best interest at heart. He spends substantial time trying to get the bite right after performing dental work. He explains procedures well, gives good advice, and is conservative in his dental practices. Scheduling--Patients are scheduled in a way that leaves plenty of time for each patient and I never get the feeling that clinical staff are rushed or behind schedule. They also leave space in their schedule to accommodate patients with urgent needs--a quality I find rare and refreshing in the world of dental treatment. The Bad: Billing is convoluted, non-transparent, and error-prone, and billing policies and errors are consistently not in patients' favor. 1) They are out-of-network for many insurances. I believe they take Delta Dental and Blue Cross Blue Shield. They also won't bill health insurances with dental benefits, which results in minor additional out-of-pocket expenses. I pay substantially more for dental work than my coworkers who are getting similar procedures done, and I rarely pay the flat rate negotiated by insurance companies for work that is more extensive than cleaning. There is often a surcharge for the use of better than standard materials. 4) Billing policies make it difficult for patients to track the total amount that they will be paying as well as the amount that they've paid so far. It also makes it difficult to use an HSA account for dental work. They've recently asked that I pay for a portion of the work early, even though I've always consistently paid the bill on the date of work. When the dental plan ends up changing, and the cost increases, I don't understand what I've already paid for and what I've not, and if I am accidentally double-billed for something, I wouldn't know. 5) Surprise billing--Even though I'm happy to pay for dental work on the day of, there are surprise charges that I'm told about on my next appointment. At my dental appointment yesterday, there was a $500 surprise charge for work that I thought I already paid for. The work occurred months ago, and I no longer remember what was done. (They did some urgent unplanned work, so I understand that billing errors are more likely to occur during these conditions. However, I consented to the work based on a specified price tag which wasn't true, and I wasn't told about the charge until three months later.) 6) Poor coordination with dental insurance companies--The billing/insurance staff don't listen to patients and seem to view patients with insurance as overly burdensome. When I tell them that my insurance covers something, and they don't believe me and bill me anyway. (I do end up getting reimbursed.) Yesterday, an employee told me that I've reached my dental maximum for the year and would be responsible for paying all future charges out-of-pocket. I told the employee that this wasn't correct and pulled up my dental plan on my i-phone. When I asked the employee to get clarification from my dental insurance company, she declined, and said that the annual maximum was based on information received from BCBS, and if there was an insurance mistake, I would have to address it on my end. Upon my request, she gave me information about my plan, and I later realized that the document wasn't for the correct year. This happened even though I had told the administrative staff at least twice that my plan had changed. The administrative staff were only willing to get clarification after I caught the error, leaving the burden of proof to the patient.

Friendly staff and good care. They didn't inform me when I made the visit that I was out of network. They should tell people before they do the work if you are in network or not. I have great insurance and was not happy to pay full price. Needless to say I will not be returning.

Dr. Doyle made me a pretty new crown today for my 57-yo baby tooth. [OLD MAN VOICE] In MY day, the dentist would take an impression, send it to Salt Lake City or Portland, and get it in your mouth about a week later! Thanks to Dr. Doyle and his staff! -- Allen
