Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Dr. Crippen had a love for biology of not just humans, but animals too! This led him to obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Washington. Upon completion of his undergraduate education, his passion for dentistry took hold, so he relocated to San Francisco to attend dental school at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry.

After graduating with honors from dental school, Dr. Crippen went on to obtain his certificate of specialty in pediatric dentistry by completing a two year pediatric dental residency at the Childrens Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During his time in Wisconsin, Dr. Crippen served as chief pediatric dental resident for his hospital.

We appreciate Dr. Crippen and his staff so much! Both Amelia and Alyse have been going to Dr. Crippen for a few years now, getting routine cleanings and checkups, and luckily neither of them have had any major teeth issues. Heres a few highlights that keep us coming back:

  • We can trust Dr. Crippen. We never feel like hes doing unnecessary work. Both our girls have had good teeth in general, and along with cleaning advice, Dr. Crippen has never suggested anything but positive encouragement.
  • Our daughters favorite things: the games and videogames available to play. Getting to watch a movie while they lounge back in the dental chair, and getting a balloon and picking a prize at the end of their visit!
  • The California Dental Association (CDA) is a community of dentists committed to enhancing the professional lives of our members27,000 of the best and brightest dentistry has to offer. Together, we champion better oral health care for all Californians.

My 3 year old had Iv sedation for a tooth to be pulled and another one to be capped. I was super scared of him being put to sleep but this was the safest place to do it and a safer sedative so he could still breath on his own. I was super happy with them before and after the procedure and it was all done in about an hour. After a lot of researching for a perfect place for him to get this procedure done, this was the perfect place. (:

Took my two kids, ages 3 and 1, to Dr. Crippen this morning for what was the first dental visit for both of them. It was, by far, the best experience I've ever had at any dental office in my life. The entire place, from the excellent staff to thoughtful decorations/amenities to Dr. Crippen himself, is all geared towards making kids comfortable and happy. My three-year-old absolutely hates people touching and prodding him, but Dr. Crippen and his amazing staff knew exactly what to do to put him at ease. I watched in disbelief as my son let Dr. Crippen apply flouride directly to my son's teeth with no complaints whatsoever--I was prepared for a total meltdown. Even my one-year-old did much better than I thought he would They each walked away with balloons and prizes, and immediately after walking out the door, my three-year-old literally exclaimed "i love going to the dentist". Five stars doesn't even do this place justice; you will not find a better pediatric dentist on earth.

Dentist was running more than 30 minutes late. Which is fine. But when he came in he didn't apologize about it, even though both kids were getting super restless. He offered a few "extra" services. We said no thanks to anything extra since we had already been there so long and he basically said nothing is mandatory and we can leave with the signed school form even without his services. He literally signed our school forms without even looking at my kids teeth. Obviously we stayed for the exam. But it was so rude of him. Like, you're running late-just come in the door with an apology and it would all be smoothed over. Don't come in arrogant and indicate you don't need our service.

Incredible professionalism and gentle, respectful dental care for my little one who needed sedation dentistry. We were reccomended by a dear friend and I would recommend Dr. Crippen 100%, we felt really safe with Dr. Crippen and his staff. He took great care with my child as if he was his own. 10/10

Dr. Crippen and his staff just completed sedated dental work on my 5 year old and I can finally breath after being anxious all week leading up to the visit. Our family has been patients of his since my oldest was old enough to sit in his chair. The staff has always been so professional and sweet with my kids. I have 3 with all different personalities and comfort levels, Dr. Crippen and his staff have catered to my children's needs over the years to make sure they feel safe and want to return. In regards to today's visit I felt it was important to share my experience because if there are any other anxious parents out there maybe reading this review will give you some comfort. My husband and I were putting off our 5 year olds tooth extraction longer than we should because we didn't feel comfortable with sedation. We finally had to schedule the appointment because my son got an infection. Dr. Crippens office got us in right away to take care of the infection and then immediately after for his extraction. We got a second opinion prior to and the other pediatric dentist was so cold and recommended a completely different plan than Dr. Crippen that seemed so aggressive. In the end we knew that Dr. Crippens office had our sons best interest. Today my son and I showed up for his appointment and we're greeted by a nurse and Dr. Crippen, they did a check up and proceeded to prepare him for sedation. I was so grateful that I got to be present for the initial shot that relaxed him so when it was time for me to hand him over it wasn't traumatic (this was not common practice). I was updated by a staff member while I waited. Before I knew it he was done and I was able meet him in the recovery room. He was still sleeping when I saw him so I could be the first one he saw. The nurse and Dr. Crippen went over everything in great detail so I knew how to care for him. Dr. Crippen also went above and beyond and treated a cavity in his front tooth that we debated pulling. His front teeth look so good and I could of hugged the Dr when he came out and told me he took care of it! From there he helped me load my son in the car and we are home resting. I can't thank the entire Capital Pediactric Team enough for taking care of my son and easing my anxiety before during and after the visit. Dr Crippen is a highly capable and master of his craft. He will always take care of our family's dental needs.

I wrote a google review last week sharing about our families experience at Dr. Crippens office in 2019. In complete transparency, overall it was not a good experience that day and it has left our son (now 7) struggling emotionally when it comes to dental appointments. Today I had a thoughtful heartfelt phone conversation with Dr. Crippen about my son and my families experience. I felt Dr. Crippen was sincere and he assured me that my sons experience and the gaps in communication has brought about change in his office for future patients. He was also understanding, sincere, empathetic and apologetic of our experience. Which means the world to me as a mother. With that I wanted to come back to this review and amend it. Being reminded myself that I am not perfect, no humans are. We can only hope that our experiences whether good or not good will hopefully benefit others and bring about positive change. After my conversation with the Doctor today I would recommend him and his office to other families for dental care. I only leave three stars because as a mama I cherish transparency and I skim over 4/5 star reviews but 3 stars and under I want to know why they are left. Our son had a sedation procedure performed by Dr. Crippen to cap two teeth that were pretty decayed. Our son is a high energy and sensitive kiddo who was too anxious to have the work done locally to where we live so his procedure required to travel to Sacramento for him to be fully sedated. The work done by Dr. Crippen was exactly what our son needed. His teeth are still doing great a year and a half later. Dr. Crippen. I appreciate your heart and your sincere apology for the negative parts of our families experience that day. *The doctor did not ask me to change my online review, I'm choosing too. I hope this helps other families local to Sacramento or out of town decide confidentiality where to take their child for dental care. Hopefully our family will not need this extensive of care again in the future but if we do I would be willing to return to Dr. Crippens office for such care

Dr. Crippen and staff are the best. My son had to be on IV sedation needing extensive dental work done. Dr. Crippen and his team did a wonderful job, helped ease our fears of the procedure and everything went well without any issues. Thank you so much from Arthur and family.

I've been meaning to review Dr. Crippen and his staff for quite a while now. I first started bringing my daughter to Dr. Crippen when she was maybe 1.5 or 2 yrs old. Now, she's 11 y/o and I have a 4 y/o who sees him. Both of my children feel so comfortable going to the dentist thanks to Dr. Crippen and the rest of the staff. Your children feeling comfortable now is key to setting them up to follow up with their future dental and medical care when they're adults. This was magnified for me when we moved to Folsom when my daughter was almost 7 y/o. Because Folsom is full of families, I figured it'd be easy to find a good pediatric dentist and it'd be nice not to drive out to Sacramento. I was referred to one of those corporate dental places (I'll refrain from naming it here) by another parent. The dentist that we saw basically traumatized my daughter by telling her that she had six cavities and would have to have four separate procedures and if we didn't have them filled then they would progress to her needing a root canal on baby teeth!!!(yes...she actually verbalized this to me in front of a 7 year-old who I had told her ahead of time was anxious about coming to a new dentist). That same dentist also never showed me xrays to show me where these cavities were. You can just imagine my fury. Needless to say, I took my daughter back to Dr. Crippen for a second opinion, because I trusted him and figured if anyone was going to do any procedures on my daughter's mouth it was going to be him and not that other dentist. He was sad to see my daughter so terrified to be in his chair as he had known her from previous visits to be smiling and chipper. He put her at ease and informed she and I that no...she did not have any cavities, they were the same spots we had always been watching, and there were no procedures necessary. He also showed me the xrays as proof. My daughter is 11 y/o now, has only one baby tooth left, and hasn't needed a single filling. She still smiles when she goes into see Dr. Crippen and the staff and comes out smiling. When they've told her things she needed to work on to keep her dental hygiene up, especially when she had braces, she listened and worked hard to get things back up to par. And my son, he enjoys going there too! So, if you want a great dental office with an honest dentist who cares about his patients emotional and dental health and a friendly, very competent staff who's great with kids and parents, then this is the place you want to go if you're in the Sacramento area!

I have a very active three year old that doesn't seem to understand how to "sit still" (who knew). Unfortunately he developed some cavities and needs sedation for treatment. Our local dentist suggested extractions and 8 crowns! His treatment plan included 3 visits with sedation and an out of pocket cost of $2900.00 (Billing our insurance $8500.00). I immediately searched for a second opinion. I was referred to Dr. Crippen by another local dentist. The process was smooth from the start. The front office was friendly and extremely helpful to a very nervous mom. Their website explained everything including a YouTube video on the sedation process. I was able to complete paperwork on their website from home (we live an hour away). The day of our visit my three year old was welcomed with smiling faces and fun activities such as iPads and cars to play with. When taken in for his examination, staff talked directly to him, giving him choices and using kid friendly lingo. My little guy takes a while to "warm up" to people, but he seemed very comfortable and relaxed the entire time. He allowed Dr. Crippen to examine his teeth with no hesitation. After our examination our treatment plan included NO extractions, 2 crowns, some small fillings, and all in 1 visit with sedation at half the cost (out of pocket)! Dr. Crippen and the staff answered all my questions and put our fears at ease. We are scheduled for treatment in two weeks and are confident that the staff at Capital Pediatric will keep our son safe. I would definitely recommend them for your child's dental needs, they have the child's best interest in mind and not here to forced the child and their family into unnecessary dental treatment for monetary gain.

My daughter has been a client with Capital Pediatric Dentistry from the ages of 3 to 12 years old. Yesterday marked her last visit as she now has all her adult teeth. During our nine years with Capital, we have experienced excellent and compassionate service. Dr. Crippen and his amazing staff are supportive and empathetic to struggles we experienced with my daughter due to her autism. They suggested alternate ways for us to encourage her to be comfortable with her visits. We are sad to leave as we transition our daughter to adult care, but incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work with a fantastic team! Thank you! Kimberly & Niara
