Dr. Richard J. Cantor is a Board Certified Specialist in the field of orthodontics. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He completed a general practice residency at Eastman Dental Center of the University of Rochester and a pediatric dental internship and residency at Harvards Childrens Hospital. Dr. Cantor obtained his orthodontic certificate at Eastman Dental Center, University of Rochester.
Dr. Cantor continues to expand his orthodontic education by attending yearly conferences held by the American Board of Orthodontics College of Diplomates, the American Association of Orthodontist and various technique courses. Dr. Cantor has completed courses in the Invisalign Master program, the Clear Aligner Fellowship program and the Invisalign Teen Master program.
Dr. Cantor is a public lecturer and has achieved his Board Certification by the American Board of Orthodontics. He is a past president of the Pennsylvania Association of Orthodontists and Carlisle Cares About Youth Program. He has also volunteered for the local youth soccer and baseball leagues. Outside of the office, Dr. Cantor enjoys skiing, wave running and hiking. He has three sons and is an avid Pittsburgh Panthers, Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan. As a young boy, Dr. Cantor was one of the winners in naming the new hockey franchise the Penguins!
In giving back to the community, Dr. Cantor sponsors yearly scholarships to graduating seniors from the areas high schools. He enjoys teaching local elementary school children the importance of good oral hygiene. Dr. Cantor and his Team also volunteer at Toys for Tots and Project Share. They hold annual parties and Halloween Candy Buy Back for their patients and also have many office contests involving patients throughout the year.
With over 75 years of clinical and orthodontic experience our team delivers excellent service in a fun and caring environment. Each member of our team is highly qualified and strives to provide individualized attention to each patient.
We encourage brothers and sisters of our patients to join the Kids Club. The Kids Club is for siblings who have not been seen by Dr. Cantor and the Team. They receive a t-shirt, a special coupon, and have their picture placed on the Kids Club wall. They are the future Team Members and receive a birthday card and an invitation for a free examination at the age of seven. The Kids Club members can also participate in all of our office contests and parties. And dont forget about our Family Program: After we have treated the first member of your family, any additional immediate family member that is treated will receive a courtesy reduction of their fee. This includes Mom, Dad and siblings! Restrictions may apply.

We envision each patient as a unique individual person. We pride ourselves in our commitment to each patient to provide personal caring, and state of the art orthodontic treatment.
Orthodontic appliances can be made of metal, ceramic (clear brackets) or plastic aligners (Invisalign). Metal and ceramic brackets/bands are cemented and bonded to the teeth (permanent). Invisalign (clear plastic aligners) are removable and are becoming a growing alternative to traditional braces because of the ability to wear them discreetly and to still have a successful treatment. In most cases, Invisalign is the same cost as Braces. Orthodontic treatment applies constant gentle force to move the teeth into a corrected position. Orthodontic treatment can take anywhere from 1 year to 3 years. After orthodontic treatment is completed retainers are worn to hold the teeth in their newly corrected position. Some orthodontic problems need to be treated in phases and others can be treated in one phase.
Age 7 is the best time to have a first visit with Dr. Cantor. At this time Dr. Cantor can determine the best course of treatment. If the patient is not ready to commence orthodontic treatment at that time Dr. Cantor will follow the patient in pre-orthodontic guidance until it is the ideal time to commence treatment.

Dr. Cantor was contacted at 930pm on a Friday night and HE suggested I bring my daughter in on a Saturday for him to take a look at the problem. We were going to tough it out until Monday morning but he insisted we come Saturday! What an amazing practice he runs! Thank you so much Dr. Cantor, it's awful seeing your child in any pain and you made her weekend much more enjoyable!

I was reminded today how thankful I am to have Chosen Dr. Cantor and his team. I returned after a few years to get new retainers and was greeted like I was family. Dr. Cantor and his entire team are professional, caring, thoughtful, respectful, and committed to their patients. I can't thank them enough for supporting me on my braces journey!

First impressions are everything and this office did not disappoint. Not only was today my daughter's and I first visit to this office, but this also marks our first day in Carlisle. The staff is very warm and welcoming. I made contact with this office a few months prior to arriving from Alabama and even our phone contact was professional and courteous. I feel Dr. Cantor and his staff is very knowledgeable and experienced in what they do. I feel comfortable continuing our orthodontic journey with them and confident that we are in great hands.
