In addition to being a husband and father of two, Dr. Sam Malcheff is also a U of M clinical lecturer, University of Michigan and Howard University graduate, Michigan native, and retired Detroit firefighter.

A second-generation dentist, Dr. Sam grew up in Rochester Hills and graduated from the University of Detroit Jesuit High School. He completed his undergrad studies at Howard University in 1994. While taking post-baccalaureate science classes at Wayne State University, Dr. Sam worked as a Detroit firefighter. Thereafter, he was admitted to the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, and graduated in 2003.

It was during his service at the Detroit Community Health Connection as a National Health Service Scholar, that he realized his inclination toward working with children. He realized he could have a positive impact on how they viewed visiting the dentist.

After two years, he returned to the University of Michigan and received his Master of Science in pediatric dentistry in 2007. Dr. Sam enjoyed his time as an associate in private practice in Ann Arbor. He is now excited to call family-friendly Canton Township home.

Dr. Sam is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and adjunct clinical assistant professor in the Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Michigan. He is an active member of the Michigan Dental Association and Washtenaw District Dental Society, a past president of the society, and past president of the Michigan Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

In his spare time, Dr. Malcheff likes to read science fiction (ask him about The Hunger Games or Harry Potter), go to the cinema (Michigan Theatre is one of his favorites), serveas swim and soccer cabbie to his children, travel, and ski.

I was incredibly disappointed and appalled at Dr. Sam's lack of professionalism as a pediatric dentist during my three year olds visit. My three year old was anxious and upset about coming and did not want to sit in the chair by themself, rather in the chair on my lap so they would be more comfortable. Dr. Sam told me for the next visit, my child had two options: climb in the chair alone or he would put them in the chair himself. During the cleaning, my child was physically getting upset and I was told to stop comforting my child with my voice, the only voice my child should hear is his. He then proceeded to tell my child the cleaning would go faster if they stopped crying. Then I got scolded on my parenting. Needless to say, we left and are never coming back.

My children absolutely love Dr. Sam and his staff. Unfortunately as others have mentioned, his office manager ("AND WIFE" - as she yelled at me) told us to find a new dentist while trying to reschedule appointments today. She spoke so condescendingly to me, and then raised her voice to speak over me as I was trying to continue speaking.. and told me repeatedly to find a new dentist. I apologized that we had to cancel an appointment and asked her to please not punish my children for that. I explained that I've paid out of pocket for years and we finally figured out their insurance with this office, and this is the only office where my children feel safe. despite her being rude, I asked her to continue re-scheduling the appointments. She told me I would have to schedule them separately this time. I said we live far and would like them on the same day as we always have?? She said "that's not an option, they broke policy" for me and it "wouldn't happen again", I said OK. She offered a 10 AM apt end of DEC and a 2pm appointment in JAN - I was told previously that we can't make a treatment appt after noon, so I was confused about the second appointment. I said that things seem to change based on whom I speak with. She again yelled at me - that we missed the appointment so we should find a new dentist. She also yelled about them being short staffed. She also yelled for the way that I spoke to her. I was not rude, I simply questioned the appointment she was offering. She yelled again and then slammed the phone to hang up on me. I've never spoken with anyone in an office setting as rude as this woman. Completely shocked by this behavior from not only a professional but from the spouse of such a kind man. My children are going to be the ones affected by her harsh words and horrible attitude, I hope that she knows that. I am very disappointed that I will have to find a new dentist for my children, who have only ever acted with respect and gratefulness in this office, all because someone answering the phones was obviously having a bad day.

We just love Dr. Sam. He is so great with my son. He has a very calm demeanor and does a great job explaining things. Cindy (front desk today) and Abby (Dr. Sam's assistant) are also very friendly. We love CPD.

As several have relayed on here, I was also told to find another dentist (by the office manager) due to my contesting a cancellation charge in regard to an unprecedented event-that effected my child's schedule, not mine.

Horrible experience. Will never use or recommend this office. The staff is extremely rude and you can tell the niceties are an act.

My kids love Dr. Sam, my daughter begs to go to the dentist!? My son gets scared and the staff is great with him, with both kids. All staff is amazing, nice, very clean, little toys at the end. It's crazy to love going to the dentist but I'm running with this. Also during covid, Dr. Sam has always been there when needed, I have a wild child okay. Last night he was able to help via text. Thank you Dr. Sam and staff members.

I called to make an appointment for my son. The receptionist told me that I need to find a new dental home because they had been trying to contact me for collections. I do not remember ever receiving a phone call from them and I even offered to pay what I needed to pay over the phone. She stated that our office need to make a clean slate with you and you need to find a new dental home. Terrible. It's unfortunate that I really liked Dr. Sam.

Dr Sam is nice but that may just be an act because he allows his staff to act rude to his patients. I took my daughter out of school to bring her to her scheduled appt on time and we had to wait for other people being taken in before us. They apparently were emergency patients that came in after my daughter. We waited 45 min and when I got upset and made it known that I had to reschedule because I have to take my daughter back to school the assistant got loud and nasty. This said a lot about the doctor when you allow your employees to treat your patients this way.

I wouldn't even give them one star. But because I had car trouble and then no vehicle at all to take my daughter then we aren't unable to make appointment. I rescheduled and unfortunately was sick at time and they listed my daughter under a patient that can not be seen. The staff that answered phone was very rude in explaining this to me and even hung up in my face. That is poor customer service and to refuse a child. But God will let you experience what you do on to others and you will be reminded. I was not rude or mean for her act that way. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. They are not companionate at all. She needs to be fired.

The receptionist was the best part of our visit. The hygienist Cindy was not very friendly. This was my 5 years first visit. My son saw they had Netflix they were playing on the overhead tv. He asked for a certain show. Cindy replied no I have this on it good enough. She then preceded to explain to him what she was doing but not enough for a 5 year old to understand. When he needed a break he raised his hand and then before he could even sit up enough to rest his jaw she was pushing him back down on the head rest. She then got the bottom row cleaned and stuck the suction straw into his mouth before even telling him what it was or letting him feel the suction. My son then flipped out. She was trying to hold his head down on the head rest and force his mouth open which at this point is glenched shut because he scared and was trying to get out the chair. She then told me not to talk because he didn't know who to listen to. I'm sorry but I know my child and he sure isn't going to listen to a stranger who is shoving his head down and putting things in his mouth. Cindy seemed to care more about getting done then caring about the child crying and being scared. I wanted my son to have his first experience at the dentist to not be so scary. That why I took him to a peds dentist and not a chain dentist. Figured a peds dentist would know how to handle kids and make it less scary. But this place did exactly what I didn't want to happen on the first visit to a dentist.
