Gum disease can be very destructive in the mouth. If it is allowed to progress, it can even result in the loss of teeth and bone. So it is very important to prevent gum disease or to have it treated as quickly as possible if it has already occurred.
There are surgical procedures that our dentist in Canarsie Family Dentistry can perform if periodontal disease is more advanced. A pocket reduction can be performed when bone and tissue have been destroyed and pockets form.
If periodontal disease has progressed to the point where teeth are lost, there are methods that can be used to restore those lost teeth. Dental implants are effective when a single tooth is gone. The implant will anchor into the gum and replace the missing tooth. Implants are very secure and durable, functioning in the same way that a natural tooth would. If gum disease was severe enough to cause the destruction of several teeth, then a partial fixed bridge will be put in place, attaching to crowns that will be applied to the teeth on either side of where the missing teeth were located.
Our periodontist atCanarsie Family Dentistry has various ways to help you with periodontic treatments. Once your gums have been restored to a healthy condition, continued visits to the dental office will help to stabilize that condition and maintain strong, healthy teeth as well.
The goal of our dentists is to preserve your teeth your whole life. However, there are circumstances when pulling a tooth is the better option. Turn to our tooth removal dentist at Canarsie Family Dentistry for pain-free extractions.

Wisdom Teeth Removal without PainOur general and family dentist wants you to know that tooth extractions do not cause pain when handled in a professional manner. Feel confident that our dentist does everything to make you comfortable, starting with anesthesia. We offer both local and general anesthesia for extractions.
Dental Extractions Only when NecessaryThere are good reasons why it is better for your oral health to remove a tooth. Of course, our preference is to preserve it, but if the condition of the tooth demands extraction, we will do so. The following conditions may warrant removing your tooth:
Common Reasons for Wisdom Tooth RemovalWisdom tooth removal is one of the common reasons our dentist would extract one or more of your teeth. It is often the case that one or more wisdom teeth do not come in completely. In addition, wisdom teeth are frequently impacted and crowded together by other teeth.
It could be that they have come in partway and there is a flap of skin over them, creating painful gums. The teeth could also be infected, or they might be damaged by decay. When there are problems with your wisdom teeth, trust our dentist to determine the problem and take corrective action, which could include extraction. Our office accepts most insurances and offers CareCredit.
