Drs. Chris and Angie Canales became orthodontists to have a positive influence on the lives of others. Drs. Chris and Angie Canales also strive to provide the highest level of care by customizing each treatment to the needs of the individual. Dr. Angie Canales is a native of Brandon, Mississippi. She attended Mississippi State University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences. She continued her education by earning her D.M.D. at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry. Following dental school, she pursued her passion for orthodontics in Charleston, South Carolina, where she completed her orthodontic certificate program along with her post-doctoral Masters Degree at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Angie Canales is a Board Certified Orthodontist, certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. She loves being an orthodontist, because she enjoys helping her patients feel confident in their smile.
Following his active duty career, Dr. Canales returned to Alabama to study dentistry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He graduated with his DMD and was awarded the prestigious Deans Medal for outstanding scholarship and leadership. Following dental school, he received his certificate and post-doctoral masters degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He has been in private practice in the Birmingham area since finishing his training. Currently he teaches orthodontics at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist, certified by the American Board of Orthodontics.
In his spare time, Dr. Canales enjoys travel, tennis, and sailing. He loves old cars and has restored a 1968 Camaro. As a big fan of music, he loves to see live shows and has played bass guitar in several bands over the years.
Drs. Chris and Angie Canales are members of the American Association of Orthodontists, Southern Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry Alumni Association.
My name is Lena, and I am a Treatment Coordinator at Canales Orthodontics in our Gardendale location. I have been a part of the Canales family since 2016. I love my job! The work we do here is second to none, and Im proud to be a part of this team. I also love patient interaction and it is my privilege to guide our patients through their orthodontic experience.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two children. They keep us busy with sports and dance! I enjoy volunteer activities within the cancer community and facilitate a local breast cancer support group. I also enjoy music, decorating, travel and am an avid reader.

Canales Orthodontics was my second choice and they should have remained just that. The staff was nice during the consultation but was cold at all other visits. My issue was definitely the insurance side and how some months were processed wrong. They never took ownership of miscommunication regarding pricing. My treatment ended early and teeth were excessively shaved down. Also the front desk lady was rude and not welcoming. Adding pics of the lobby area as well to show they don't take care In presentation. Go else where.

I just loved the way Dr. C spoke to my daughter and explained how her mouth will change and grow over the next few years. She provided a conservative approach and really included her in the decision making process for next steps. It was a great first visit and consult and we look forward to working with them.

The overall experience was great. Scheduling was super easy! The only reason I give this place a 4 stars is because I have a severe anxiety disorder. There were times I would be panicking from the pain and I would be picked on or told to act my age when experiencing high levels of anxiety. I was literally told that if this 8 year old child is doing okay and not panicking, then me, a young adult, shouldn't be panicking. They're knowledgeable and great when it comes to taking care of your teeth. As far as having empathy & mental health wise, not so much. Thankfully it wasn't like this every visit, but over the course of two years, it was enough to make me uncomfortable every time I went knowing they may or may not make some comment about my anxiety.

Canalas Orthodontics are fantastic! From the initial consultation to the day the braces come off, they are professional, courteous and accommodating. We first visited with Dr. C before my daughter's 6th grade year as her teeth were coming in crooked and well, not pretty at all. Dr. C was very honest and understood my concerns. He let me know she was too young for "regular" braces but we could do a rather quick stint in them to correct them cosmetically. And that we did. She wore the first round for several months. Then after about another year she had the "real" ones put on. She wore those for between 3.5-4 years and they just came off! What a huge difference in her smile. We couldn't be more pleased with Drs. C & A, Autumn, Meredith and the other staff at Canalas. Thank you!!
