For years we have relied on removable and unsecure methods to replace missing teeth and restore function to the smile, such as bridges and dentures. With advances in dental technology, Drs. Mario Canal and Ben Calem are pleased to offer a more permanent, life-changing solution for any number of missing teeth dental implants. Comprised of a titanium screw, a natural-looking crown and an abutment that attaches them, dental implants are a highly successful replacement solution that is quickly becoming the new standard in dentistry.

Dental implants are an ideal solution for patients looking for a permanent smile transformation, especially those looking for an alternative to dentures. Unlike traditional dentures, with proper care and maintenance, dental implants can last for a lifetime. This means no more struggling with loose or uncomfortable dentures and no more goopy pastes or adhesives. Instead, you get a complete smile restoration that feels natural and fully enhances your quality of life. When you choose to replace your missing teeth with dental implants, you are choosing a solution that:

With a father who practiced restorative dentistry for 40 years and a mother who practiced dental hygiene for 42 years, Dr. Ben Calem believes he was genetically predispositioned to become a periodontist!

Born and raised in central New Jersey, Dr. Calem attended The College of New Jersey (formerly Trenton State College) where he majored in biology and minored in chemistry. He then went on to study dentistry at Rutgers University School of Dentistry (formerly the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey). In his senior year, he was selected to partake in a progressive educational program in Somerdale, NJ. The program, entitled C.O.D.E. (Community Oriented Dental Education), provided Dr. Calem the opportunity to practice restorative dentistry in an office setting, as opposed to a school environment. As his professional relationships in South Jersey developed, he continued his post-graduate training at the Virtua Dental Center in Camden, NJ for one year.

With a passion for periodontal surgery and improving oral health, Dr. Calem returned to Rutgers University School of Dentistry to specialize in periodontology. As chief resident, his research focused on ridge preservation procedures to allow for future dental implant placement.

After completing a rigorous three-year residency program, Dr. Calem relocated to South Jersey and joined the practice in 2003. He is proficient in all facets of periodontal and implant therapy, and has been recently trained in the Chao Pinhole Surgical procedure and the All-On-4 treatment modality.

In 2008, he became director of the Seattle Study Club of South Jersey a prestigious continuing education forum which promotes interdisciplinary dentistry and higher learning to the dental community. His belief in organized dentistry led to his involvement in the Southern Dental Society where he became President in 2012. In addition, he was clinical assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine/Department of Periodontics from 2004 to 2011. He has been involved in Donated Dental Services (DDS), providing periodontal care for those less fortunate. He has also recently become part of the Holocaust Survivors Oral Health Program. This program provides periodontal treatment to those individuals who survived the Holocaust.

I had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Calem who explained to me, very thoroughly, the whole process of my implants. He is very gentle as he works on you and shows great concern for the best results. Very short wait time of your scheduled appointment and the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable of the work you are recieving and working with your insurance company. I would highly recommend them to anyone seeking Periodontics.

I'm not sure if anyone enjoys going to a dentist let alone a periodontist, but the staff at Dr. Calems office makes a really stressful and uncomfortable appointment tolerable. From the front desk staff, Karen my hygienist and Dr. Calem, you know your in great hands. Honestly one person is nicer than the next. Take care of your teeth, and if you put it off for way to long, reach out to them, they will help and make you feel comfortable doing it.

Absolute best place to put your dental worries at ease. Helpful, friendly staff and Dr. Calem was so polite and explained my procedure in depth and answered any questions I had. Even during the procedure he explained what he was doing next, when he'd be done, etc. Everyone from the front desk and through the office couldn't be any sweeter and it made for a pleasant experience and a thorough procedure and speedy recovery! Thanks so much
