Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a surgical specialty which involves both dental and medical surgical treatments. It diagnoses and treats diseases, deformities, injuries and cosmetic defects of the facial and oral region. OMFS are considered the orthopedic and plastic and reconstructive experts of the Maxillofacial region (the upper jaw, cheek bones, the bones that support and surround the eyes, lower jaw, chin, jaw joints, associated facial structures, and the intra-oral structures including teeth and their supporting bone and gum tissues, salivary glands, and lining tissues of the mouth).

Oral and Maxillofacial education begins after completion of dental school and may include a hospital based internship as a prerequisite. Completion of an OMFS residency requires 4-6 years of hospital based training focusing solely on the maxillofacial region. The residency includes medical training and rotations such as neurosurgery, critical care medicine, emergency room, internal medicine, general surgery, pediatric surgery and plastic surgery. OMFS residents also receive training in the administration of out-patient anesthesia and are required to administer hundreds of anesthetics during their residency training.

Dental implants are becoming more and more popular, and its easy to understand why. Theyre convenient, lifelike and aesthetically pleasing. Here is a quick overview of the top five reasons why dental implants are a great remedy for tooth loss.

1)Dental implants are structurally complete. After the oral surgeon places the dental implant in the jaw, it becomes a permanent fixture in the mouth through a process known as osseointegration. That is, the surrounding bone fuses with the titanium implant, and as the end result, the implant becomes a root-like structure. Dental implants are the only tooth replacement device that have a physical link with the underlying jawbone.

2)Dental implants are stable over time, with proper care. Because the implant can act like a root, it helps to prevent jawbone erosion that unfolds when a tooths root is no longer present. That erosion changes the shape of the jaw, and a conventional appliance, like a denture or dental bridge can lose its fit over time.

3)Dental implants preserve more of the biological tooths functioning. Again, the connection between the bone and the implant is essential here. The implant can tolerate strong chewing forces necessary to process crunchy foods, like many fresh fruits and vegetables, preserving a patients capacity for adequate nutritional intake.

4)Dental implants are convenient to maintain. Dental implants do not require support from surrounding teeth, so theres no structure that restricts access to the gum line. You can brush and floss with your dental implants just like you do with your natural teeth.

Your teenager might not want to hear this, but summer is the ideal time to schedule their surgery. After a wisdom teeth extraction, there is a necessary period of recovery. During school year, this could mean a few days or even a week of missed classes. Scheduling the surgery during summer can help your children concentrate on resting and recovering without stressing on missed assignments.

If your children are late teens and leaving for college, now is the time to plan wisdom teeth removal. The last thing you would want to deal with is a phone call from your child in terrible pain from wisdom teeth eruption.

3 WARNING SIGNS OF IMPACTED WISDOM TEETH Wisdom teeth can drive patients to the brink of desperate pain relief. One sign of pain in the back of the jaw usually means impacted wisdom teeth. There are an array of symptoms and signs that will alert you something is not right. Once you have an assumption something is wrong, its time to take action!

Boyfriend had his wisdom teeth taken out which all 4 were impacted. The whole procedure took about two hours and he was out and able to move and talk fairly well the rest of the day, clean cuts in the gum and stitches were placed for maximum comfort. I've had a lot of dental work done over the years and I can tell they did a great job and had his comfort in mind the whole time

This office contacted me the evening prior to my scheduled appointment to tell me the appointment would be cancelled should they not receive the X-rays and consult request by the end of the day. I had no way of knowing that this wasn't complete considering I had already done my part with the other office. The appointment was cancelled, but they categorized it was a 'no show', likely to protect themselves from their late chart prep, and will not reschedule my daughter for three months. Additionally, when I initially set the appointment, they expressed clear disdain for our insurance which suggests discrimination. It may be the case that the physicians are skilled, but their staff are dismissive and unprofessional. I'll certainly be reporting my concerns and hope this review protects others from this mess.

Very nice staff and Dr. Adams was great. However, be warned, I was referred here by my dentist and told that my insurance would cover my surgery. When, I arrived at Campus Oral I asked about my insurance coverage and they said that they would get it all sorted after my consultation (I assumed that the consultation would be free). After my consultation and x-rays that I was asked to receive, I went back up front and got my estimate for the price. My insurance is basic coverage so the quote was $2700 and was charged $300 for my x-rays and consultation. I asked about submitting the $300 to my insurance companies, but was told that that could only be done after I go through with the full procedure. So the consultations are not free, they avoided telling me this, and I was stuck with $300 to pay now (or come back and pay the full $2700).

Came back to change to 1 star since I'm now battling my insurance company after they told me my insurance was in network with them. Wouldn't recommend. I was referred here by my dentist to get my wisdom teeth out. I was given some medication to take after the surgery and had a bad reaction to it. I called the practice asking for a follow up and they denied to schedule me an appointment and told me to just finish the course of medicine. I ended up having a severe enough reaction that it required extensive medical intervention and a month of treatment. They're definitely just a churn and burn practice and don't actually care about patients once the teeth are out of your head.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I was referred to this practice by my general dentist. When I called to schedule an appointment I figured out that it's not possible to schedule an appointment before the receptionist talks to the doctor who is the owner. And there is no particular time when it would be done. In fact, this is a veiled refusal even if they know that there are limited oral surgeons in our area. I can imagine how they treat their patients..

Was recommended, by my dentist, to consult with Dr. Maxwell Adams ~ and I'm so happy that I did! Everything was carried out in such a caring, compassionate and professional manner. Their instructions and checklists made it easy for me to stay on track. He explained my procedure thoroughly, and gave understanding feedback to my wife when he was done. I would highly recommend Dr. Adams!
