What Happens When You Leave Tooth Decay Untreated? If left unchecked for three to six months, the bacteria in tooth decay is able to dig its way through the enamel into the pulp of your tooth, causing inflammation in it. Not seeking help from a dentist when that happens will aggravate your tooth’s condition, and it may spread further to the surrounding teeth. Such decay is not only painful, you may even end up losing the tooth, leading to tooth restoration needs such as crowns, bridges, or dental implants. However, a timely root canal can save your tooth and completely rid you of the pain that often comes with the decay

Do You Need Root Canal Therapy?A good indication that you might be needing root canal therapy is if you have been experiencing jarring toothaches which last for a number of days, or if you have active tooth decay. Some other signs which indicate that you need root canal therapy include the infected tooth changing its color, sensitivity, the tooth feeling loose and painful when you touch it, or swelling in the gums around the infected tooth. You should immediately pay us a visit if you have been experiencing any of these symptoms, and our professionals can help relieve your pain and irritation right away

Cameo Dental Specialists - General dentist in River Forest, IL

How Will We Carry Out Root Canal Therapy?Root canal therapy procedures are nothing but slightly more complex tooth fillings. What we essentially do is that we make a small hole in the infected tooth. We will remove the pulp and the roots to leave behind empty root and pulp chambers. These chambers are then cleaned and disinfected to eliminate any infected remnants and reshaped into their original form. After this, the empty chambers are filled and sealed. Once this simple procedure is completed, you will be instructed on the routine that you will need to practice for a few days following the treatment

Healing a decayed tooth is much simpler than you might think, and the procedure is relatively straightforward, so you need not worry about getting root canal therapy at all. We can relieve you of the pain and discomfort by offering you different sedation options depending on your individual case.

Root Canal TreatmentRoot canal treatment is a procedure to treat the inside of a tooth. A tooth is living, and to be so it needs a constant supply of blood and functioning nerves to relay messages. The part of the tooth that contains tissue, blood vessels and nerves is called the pulp. If the pulp becomes infected, root canal treatment can be used to clean bacteria out of the tooth, and prevent further decay within the mouth

Cameo Dental Specialists wants to accommodate your dentistry needs, and can promise a treatment plan for your mouth that suits your requirements. Root canal treatment is nothing to be afraid of, breaking down the procedure can make it less scary.

ProcedureA diagnosis is necessary before the dentist can decide upon the correct endodontic treatment. When a patient complains of a toothache and swelling, our dentist will be able to look for indications of tooth decay that may need root canal treatment. Physical discoloration and pus buildups are the most obvious, physical symptoms of needing root canal treatment. The dentist will use an x-ray and the pressing of a cold stimulus onto the tooth, to see if it causes sensitivity, to detect the need for root canal treatment

A small incision will be made into the top of the tooth, to allow our dentist to access the pulp. The infected pump will be removed, to prevent the further spreading of the infection. Once this is removed, our dentist will flush the inside of the tooth with an antibacterial solution, to ensure no bacteria remain inside. To fill in the inside of the tooth, a rubbery material, gutta percha, will be used for structural reasons.

Once the dentist has finished the root canal treatment, we will place a temporary crown on top. This is to be used until a dental lab has made a custom fit crown for your tooth, designed from a mold of your mouth.

CareFor the next couple of days, pain and inflammation will be felt around the tooth that received root canal treatment. Over-the-counter pain medication can help reduce the pain. If pain is persistent, contact us

While the causes of root canal treatment vary, the maintenance of good oral health will reduce the risk of needing root canal treatment. Brushing your teeth twice a day, for two minutes, will help reduce the amount of plaque build-up in the mouth.

The staff at the Berwyn location is great. They were very patient with me and took care of my every need. I also needed to be seen on a very short notice and they accommodated me. Dr. Baptist was great. He made me feel very comfortable and talked me through the whole procedure. I would highly recommend Cameo and will definitely use them again!

I would like to start this review by saying that I'm not a picky/complaining patient at all but I have expectations for professionalism and care when it comes to a physician's job. I understand when someone is at the beginning of their career but I also know that as a medical professional myself I once were there too and I did everything in my power to help my patients feel comfortable with me and also make them trust my knowledge and expertise. This wasn't the case for dr Alex Munaretto at Cameo Dental Specialists in River Forest. And I'll briefly explain why hoping that he'll learn from my constructive criticism, if you want. I went to Cameo to have a broken tooth removed after the crown fell out. Office was clean and dental staff was polite. However, financially wise, I wasn't told that I have to have +$1000 ready to pay up front (they didn't accept a half payment) after they administered anesthesia!... After Dr Alex Munaretto introduced himself and briefly explained the procedure, I politely asked for a bit more info re the bone graft. He replied that this would be "too much information" for me... Moving forward with the procedure I had to ask every single time for the suction device as I was chocking on my own saliva and blood. I explained the surgeon, before the procedure started, that I have an anxious personality and I expected him to tell me, briefly what he was doing during the procedure, as the process was tedious, lengthy, and ridiculously noisy (that drilling device noise was out of this world and I'm sure that some earbuds would have helped!!). You can imagine that the level of my anxiety reached the excessive limit. Not to mention that the protective glasses they gave me were so dirty that I could barely see through them! When everything was finally over the surgeon left without applying a gauze to the open wound. I started to choke again on my own blood and I had to ask the assistant for the gauze to stop the bleeding. But at least it was all over! Again, this isn't necessarily supposed to be a complaint but a teaching lesson for the surgeon so he'll do better next time. Thank you!

I read all of the positive reviews that were very reassuring to me before having major dental work done, including tooth extraction and implants. I have never been so relaxed and reassured when in the dentist's chair. Dr. Quinlan and her assistant are a great team - they take their time to explain everything and are always checking to see if I'm ok.

Dr Sommers is amazing! He was confident he could save my tooth by redoing my root canal and he did!! He walked me through every step and was very thorough with explaining everything. I also have a tendency to faint with needles and he was so gentle with the injection that i didnt faint at all. THANK YOU Dr Sommers for everything!

I am forever grateful to Dr. Sommers and the staff at Cameo Dental in River Forest. I was referred to the office by my insurance agent of all people, when I mentioned to him that I developed tooth pain from a previous root canal. Turns out Dr. Sommer found that I had an underlying infection. I had multiple consultations with other doctors offices who all wanted to perform a surgical implant (a very costly and time consuming procedure). I decided on going with Dr. Sommer's recommendation at Cameo when he said he was confident he could save my tooth by doing a "re-treat" of the root canal using their state of the art equipment. The office operates very efficiently and effectively, from the front of the house receptionists to the dental assistants and techs helping the Docs. The procedure was a piece of cake. Dr. Sommers is confident, intelligent, and great at what he does. He explained the procedure very thoroughly and put my mind at ease. I am a few weeks post procedure as I write this review and have had no complications. I know I made the right choice by using Cameo and would recommend them to anyone who needs dental work.

I don't usually write reviews but I have to chime in and share my absolutely fabulous experience with Dr. Baptist and his assistant Ray. This practice came highly recommended to me and it is clear why. Dr. Baptist is not only an expert in his field but also has the ability to explain step by step what he is doing. He is a gifted practitioner, passionate about his work, skilled and extremely kind and comforting. He is informed and has a great depth of biological knowledge which he enthusiastically shares. It actually made the whole extraction experience a little bit more fun than expected. His assistant Ray is down to earth, friendly and excellent at his job. I appreciated the check in call post-op! As far as the staff goes, they are responsive, efficient and welcoming. Thank you to the entire team!

I called this a.m. with a bit of an urgent issue. Was seen this afternoon Dr. Baptist. Everyone NAILS it here...from the receptionist with their kindness and processing everything; to Kim the surgical support staff who took my story, put me at ease and was great to talk to; to Dr. Baptist, who explained everything in great detail, took great care of my needs and instilled enormous confidence in his abilities and competence. Beautiful office, too.

I called Cameo from a referral. They were able to schedule me the same morning I called. I explained the amount of pain I was in due to a very painful toothache which I knew was because of an exposed nerve. First time meeting Dr. Milicivic and I can't say enough good things about her! She listened and was empathetic to the pain I was in. She was very careful not to cause me more pain and checked with me often while completing a root canal. It took two steps with two visits, and she was exactly the same when I returned. I gave her name and card to my dentist who had no one to refer me to as well as to friends and family. The best experience I could have had under the circumstances I was in! - Gaby Jovanovic

Very helpful and understanding; a seemingly painful process, a root canal, went by in no time but my nerves decided to be stubborn when it came to numbing. Thanks to Dana and the rest of the staff, as well as the Doc who performed the procedure. Very friendly staff and great at helping me fill in the gaps in the process. Lastly, love the music.
