Brian R. Summers, DMD, PhD, is an Oregon native. He grew up in Rickreall, just north of Albany, and graduated from high school in Eugene. He earned a bachelor's degree with honors in biology from the University of Oregon. Prior to becoming a dentist, he earned his PhD in developmental biology at Stanford University.
Fulfilling a lifelong passion for dentistry, Dr. Summers changed careers, and earned his dental degree from Oregon Health & Science University. He completed residency training in general dentistry in Meridian, Idaho, working closely with dental specialists in numerous fields. This advanced training allows him to provide a wide variety of procedures, including IV sedation, implants, root canals, oral surgery, advanced dental restorations and hospital dentistry.
Dr. Summers joined the practice of Patrick V. Hagerty, DMD, in Albany and worked alongside one of the area's most respected dentists for two years before taking over the practice in 2015. He now focuses on the treatment of patients with sleep apnea and TMJ disorders. He also has expanded the hospital dentistry program started by Dr. Hagerty for treatment of patients with special needs and medical complexities.
Born and raised in Albany, Dr. Hagerty started the practice in 1986. The emphasis, besides providing high-quality family dentistry, was hospital and implant dentistry. He created the largest private hospital dental practice in Oregon, which has been expanded and grown with the addition of Dr. Summers to the office in 2013. Furthermore, his expertise in implant dentistry has made him one of the most sought after dentists in the state. Dr. Hagerty left private practice in 2015 to join Oregon Health & Science University, where he was an assistant professor tasked with the job of restarting the hospital dentistry residency program. 2019 brought his return to private practice as Calapooia Family Dental continues to grow.
Terra is a certified medical assistant and the office manager for Calapooia Family Dental. She has worked in the office since 2003, and earned an associate's degree from Linn-Benton Community College in 2006.
Shelley is a registered dental hygienist, and has been with our office since 2014. She graduated from Oregon Institute of Technology in 2002, and has extensive experience in both pediatric and general dentistry. For our patient's comfort, she holds endorsements in both local anesthesia and nitrous oxide. In addition to providing care in the office, Shelley has privileges at Samaritan Albany General Hospital, and can be seen several times a month working alongside Dr. Summers in the operating room.
Shelley and her husband Steven have a daughter, and love camping in their RV (and even taking their kitty Simon along!). Their daughter is active in sports almost year-round, and they enjoy coaching her teams. Shelley is an avid baker, and loves cooking, working out, and spending time with her friends and family.
Phoebe is a certified dental assistant with her EFDA and EFODA certifications. She joined Calapooia Family Dental after finishing her dental assisting program at Linn-Benton Community College in 2019. She takes pride in connecting with patients and building relationships.
Zyvonee is a certified expanded functions dental assistant who graduated from UEI College in California in 2017. She joined Calapooia Family Dental in 2021. She enjoys making our patients feel comfortable and welcome in the office, and exceeding their expectations is always rewarding.
Nora is our schedule coordinator at Calapooia Family Dental. She maintains both the doctors' and hygienists' schedules, and strives to help patients receive the care they need in a timely manner. Nora is bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish, and enjoys helping out the Hispanic community. She obtained her Esthetics License in 2019.

Yesterday I showed up for procedure. I I have to take anxiety meds to have dental work done. There was no consent form signed so after I missed hours of work and took this medicine and had my son drive me 20 miles, I was informed I couldn't have work done. Due to their negligence my whole day was wasted. And hours out of my sons day too. I am never returning to this office.

Dr Haggerty and his entire staff have a way of making you look forward to each visit. They all genuinely smile and want to know, how have you been. It's such a warm feeling in both the front office and, while in the chair!

Meeting Sam my new hygienist was a great experience. She was gentle and responded to my questions and when I experienced pain. Dr. Hagerty was informative and his examination brought to light two dental problems I was having and the serious nature of getting them resolved. The only thing I was not happy with is not having an answer as to why I am having so much difficulty with my oral health and the mounting cost of the procedures. I am also concerned that I won't be able to chew food after the extraction since I am having difficulty saving enough money to pay for replacement teeth.

I loved the way they made my daughter feel comfortable. I did not like that we had to go all the way to Albany ( we live on the coast) just for a consult. I also do not like that it literally takes months to get anything done.

I can't say enough good things about this Dentist Office. I immediately switched back to here when I found out that Dr. Hagerty was practicing again. It will be a terrible day when he retires for good.

I just started seeing Dr. Hagerty and he is great! Everyone in the office has been so polite and professional and it honestly has been my best experience with a dentist ever. I have very sensitive teeth and struggle not being overly anxious at the dentist but I was able to relax more here. Really, really appreciate that!
