Cahaba Medical Care is a Community Health Center (FQHC),accredited as a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH)by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and Joint Commission. We have locations throughout central Alabama serving Bibb, Perry, Chilton, Dallas, Autauga and Jefferson Counties. Our health centers provide comprehensive primary care services, including treatment and management of chronic and acute diseases; preventative care and cancer screenings; pediatric care; womens health services; prenatal care and obstetrics; dermatological services; geriatrics; sports medicine services; mental healthcare; dental services and much more.

Our clinics are currently staffed by more than 60 healthcare providers, 13 social workers/licensed counselors, two registered dietitians, and a dedicated team of nurses and medical assistants whose job it is to assist our patients in becoming healthier individuals.

If you require additional imaging and/or testing services, or need to be treated by a specialist, we will work to provide excellent coordination of your medical care by tracking these added services and collaborating with other medical professionals to maintain a complete record of your care.

If your condition requires hospitalization, we can continue your care there as we have privileges at Bibb Medical Center here in Centreville, as well as UAB Medical West in Bessemer, Alabama and Baptist Princeton in Birmingham, Alabama.

'From the time we opened in 2004 we made the decision to never turn away a patient due to inability to pay. We have held to our promise even when unemployment in the area went from 3% to 15% and more patients found themselves without insurance. Dr. John Waits

Cahaba Medical Care provides high-quality health services regardless of a patients ability to pay by offering a discounted, sliding fee schedule based on income and family size. While this has been the mission of the clinic since its founding, our capabilities have continued to develop and grow through our designation as a nonprofit, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). As an FQHC, we are stewards of annual federal funding that allows us to enhance our services to those without insurance and to those facing hardship - whether medical, social, financial or emotional.

The purpose of an FQHC is to enhance the primary care services in underserved communities, in particular for the underinsured and uninsured. FQHCs operate under the supervision of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and play a crucial role in the health of our entire country. As of 2017, there are 15 FQHCs in the state of Alabama serving more than 300,000 patients.

With this designation and funding comes accountability. Therefore, to qualify as an FQHC, an organization must meet and maintain certain criteria as mandated by the federal government, including but not limited to:

The Teaching Health Center program is an innovative way of funding residency education that allows training of primary care residents to occur in community-based ambulatory care clinics instead of in large hospitals. For CMC, this means that Bibb County is serving as the training ground for twelve resident physicians who are learning how to take care of all patients - regardless of insurance, financial and/or physical status. Nationally, the Teaching Health Center program supports the training of more than 700 residents, with a focus on preparing them to serve the needs of the community in underserved areas with a shortage of physicians and medical professionals.
