Dr. Buurmas practice focuses on his patients and their unique needs, not simply relying on the industrys general practices. He believes that treatment should only be performed when it will benefit the patient, and he and his staff work tirelessly to ensure that each patient is handled appropriately based on their specific circumstances.

In 1998, at the University of Michigan, he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, his certification as a specialist in Endodontics, and eventually his Masters degree in Endodontics in 2000. During his tenure at UMs School of Dentistry, Dr. Buurma excelled clinically and didactically. Because he had produced and published such an abundance of award-winning endodontic research, he was granted his Master of Science degree after only two years, despite it being a three-year program, something unheard of before or since.
His work has been published in prominent international journals, and he has presented his works at national and international scientific meetings. His innovative research, which applied principles of molecular biology and tissue engineering to endodontic problems, constituted some of the worlds very first research of its kind.
Although scientific research has always intrigued him, Dr. Buurma elected to become a provider of clinical endodontic care, primarily because he enjoys providing world-class care to his patients and excellent service to his referring colleagues. With each and every patient, Dr. Buurma strives for the utmost level of warmth and gentleness, with a respect, humility and empathy that arises from his faith. He understands and never forgets that most of his new patients are nervous and apprehensive about having this type of treatment done.
Since 2000, Dr. Buurma has been providing exceptional and compassionate endodontic care to the people of West Michigan. Since 1999, he has been an active specialist member of the American Association of Endodontists, the American Dental Association, the Michigan Association of Endodontists and the Holland Zeeland Dental Society.
Through rigorous oral and written examination, including several case presentations, Dr. Buurma has been certified as a specialist in endodontics by the Northeast Regional Board of Dental Examiners. He has lectured to colleagues in West Michigan and at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where he also taught clinical and Didactic Endodontics to third and fourth year dental students. While a fourth year dental student himself, he was selected by dental school faculty to be the sole representative of the entire University of Michigan School of Dentistry, also attending the first conference of its kind, involving all U.S. dental schools, at the National Institutes for Dental Research, Bethesda, Maryland.
As a member of Dr. Buurma's team since his office first opened in 2000, I always ensure that all of our patients enjoy a friendly, comfortable and stress free visit to our office. I have been married for 14 years and have two small children. I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling with my husband. I will do my best to make your experience at Dr. Buurma's office excellent from start to finish.
I have been a dental assistant for twenty years and have worked with Dr. Buurma since 2000. I enjoy working with our patients and helping them feel as comfortable as possible during their visit. I am married with four children and four grandchildren. I enjoy spending time with my family, exercising and curling up with a good book.
I have been a part of the office since Dr. Buurma opened his practice in 2000. I enjoy assisting patients with their scheduling and insurance benefit questions as well as making their visit to our office as stress free as possible. I wish I would have read reviews before I went to this man. He had the worst bedside manner I have ever encountered. He wasn't able to do my root canal, not his fault. I started gagging and then couldn't breathe. It put me in panic and he was not comforting at all and stood up very abruptly and said well you are going to have to get it extracted in the rudest way. Sometimes it is just the way you explain or talk to people. This man should not deal with the public AT ALL. I left his office crying, one because I was so panicked from not being able to breathe but his attitude had me very angry. He front office lady was very nice and was the only one that said she was sorry that happened and offered me Kleenex. Hopefully he is better to his employees than his patients.

Dr. Burma did a great job explaining and doing my root canal. I had no pain and he was efficient and thorough. This was my first root canal and it went smoothly.

I took my 10yo daughter in for some work after a referral from her primary dentist and Dr Brian has no bedside manor for a first time patient. My daughter was so scared and all he did was talk down to her and was quite rude even said to not bother trying to reschedule

My Wife took my 8 year old for a procedure on his tooth after being referred here based on insurance. This doctor took offense to my timid and nervous 8 year old not looking at him and saying hi when he came into the office. After that he was telling my wife she should have told him to acknowledge him. Its not surprising to hear that after that my son would not open his mouth for him and instead of helping in a situation where my child needs relief from the pain and infection he makes the scenario worse and he told my wife who drove an hour to get there they would not do the procedure now and said to go somewhere else. This is ridiculous and after reading reviews I see similar events have happened. After waiting for him to contact me back to discuss his Rudeness and lack of patience when dealing with a child......he stated he requires a level of cooperation from the child as well and Max simply wouldnt do that by not saying hello to him. Then went to state that my wife should tell him to say hi to him and tried to lecture me on the phone about it being a parents responsibility to have their kids know how to act in social situations.....Im sorry "Doctor" but as I stated he is a child that has been dealing with extreme pain and was nervous so I would not expect him to be very willing to endure any more pain. I confronted him about dealing with children and he said he deals with children all the time. Seeing other reviews and speaking with this "Doctor" I seen those do not go very well either. I WOULD LOOK ELSEWHERE rather than waste your trip to see this man who is on his high horse! He didnt even do a procedure on my child but I still felt it necessary to inform anyone I can that someone in that role and in that industry should work on his people skills!!

If I could give this man ZERO stars or even negative stars I would!! I RECOMMEND NO ONE GO TO THIS MAN AND PLEASE DONT MAKE THE MISTAKE I DID!! I brought my 12 year old daughter in he was very rude lacks empathy to a child that had to get a root canal procedure done, while doing the root canal he was so RUDE and aggressive twords my daughter, he left her so bruised and swollen. He was slamming his instruments when she stated she could feel pain, the list could go on, but I BEG you for your child sake and yours DO NOT GO HERE! I get root canals is a procedure the the lack of professionalism and empathy And being aggressive is soooo not needed. He traumatized my daughter! He was also telling me another child's (procedure) medical information and I do believe that goes against HIPAA!

Came here for a root canal and... It's going to cost me $700 more than originally quoted! They didn't inform me that I hadn't met the time requirement for my insurance to cover their half of my root canal. I'm sure I could've found that info out but they ran the insurance and this has to be a common occurrence. It had already been months since the tooth hurt and I would have definitely waited to save the money. The work was good and staff was friendly enough but the money means more to me.

Horrible experience. Struggled so much with my insurance info for no reasonwhatsoever. Got there for my daughter's appointment & the doctor was just rude to us. He had a bad attitude the whole time. Do not go here

I went to see Dr. Buurma after having had a failed root canal procedure done by my regular dentist. I was a bit skeptical....and did not relish the idea of going through a second root canal. But, after a consult with Dr Buurma I felt it would be smart to give it a "go"....to save the tooth. The procedure was painless and successful! Never again will I consider having a root canal done by anyone else.

Both my teenage boys have had to get root cannels done,of course they where very nerves, but I have to tell you they where so nice and respectful to them, talked with them made them feel as comfortable as they could. Great job.
