Dr. Barton has been practicing orthodontics on the Peninsula since 2004. After earning her degrees, Dr. Barton completed her orthodontic residency at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. At this time, she also earned her certification in orthodontics and a Master in Oral Biology degree. Passionate about patient care and dental health, Dr. Barton is at her happiest when working with her amazing team and exploring both the mechanics and artistry of orthodontic care. Her favorite part of her job is having a positive impact on her patients lives and self-confidence by helping them improve their smiles. When shes not in the office, Dr. Barton enjoys spending time with her husband, Dan, and their three wonderful children. Dr. Jennifer Barton has been practicing orthodontics on the Peninsula since 2004. Having settled in Virginia after years of traveling the world with her military family, Dr. Barton graduated from York High School and the College of William and Mary, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Chemistry, all while completing all her pre-med requirements. She continued her academic career at the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she graduated magna cum laude with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon and Phi Beta Phi honor societies. After earning her degrees, Dr. Barton completed her orthodontic residency at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. True orthodontic emergencies are rare, but they can happen. If you think you may have an emergency, the first step is to determine how severe the problem is. Many minor orthodontic emergencies have simple at-home remedies that serve as a temporary solution until you can make it into the office. Major emergencies are even more rare, but if they occur, call your regular dentist or go to the emergency room to get immediate care.
Even after we remove your braces or complete your aligner treatment, your orthodontic journey isnt over! When your initial treatment is removed, it is normal for teeth to still be slightly mobile, meaning they can move back out of their proper alignment if you dont follow the proper retention plan. This is where retainers come in!

Linda Schloss: I am a military spouse and over a period of 20 years starting in my 20's I have been a patient of 6 different orthodontists in 5 different states with Dr Barton being my last orthodontist. After my braces were removed with each of the 5 orthodontists before Dr Barton, within 2 months my bite started to shift, despite wearing my retainer, and spaces started to appear where they should not have appeared. Being a very busy mom, military spouse, and high school English teacher always prevented me from seeking new options to address these difficult orthodontic issues. Finally, after reaching my 60's my bite began shifting, even with wearing my retainer every night, and caused a front tooth to crack requiring a crown. The bite was not addressed with the crown and after consulting with the orthodontist prior to Dr Barton, a remedy could not be found. Dr Barton was recommended to me and on my first visit and examination, she was quickly able to identify the problem and recommend a strategy that addressed my on-going problems. When my treatment was complete, my bite was perfect for the first time ever and after wearing my retainer for 4 months, there has been no shifting affecting my bite and no spaces have appeared. After 5 states, from California to N.C. and 5 orthodontists, she is the very best and I am so very thankful I found her. No child or adult could make a better choice for orthodontic care!

Riding a bike for the first time - graduating college - getting married - and I'd also add, the day your braces come off - are all big days in one's life! As an adult in need of braces I wanted an office that had experience working with adults and with whom I felt comfortable with - I'm very glad I visited Butterfoss Barton Orthodontics. I saw during my initial consultation that Dr. Barton had extensive experience and was knowledgeable; it helped greatly that she was able to lay out an immediate plan on how they'd be able to correct the many problems with my teeth. Over the course of my treatment, Dr. Dr. Barton and her staff have been great to work with and have always been friendly, helpful and welcoming. The times I had a broken bracket or slipped wire, they were always able to fit me into their (full) schedules and get it taken care of. Adult teeth are more difficult to work with (I recall Dr. Barton referring to them as "onery") and having an knowledgeable orthodontist and staff moving them to where they should be makes all the difference. Adult braces are a transformative experience, and if you need them, then you should get the best care you can with Dr. Barton and her truly great staff. 10 out of 10, 5-stars, Thumbs-Up, and my personal recommendation.

I was referred to Butterfoss by my dentist to have them remove a spacer for my son. They would not let me go past the waiting room to be with him; they took unnecessary x-rays of my child WITHOUT my permission; they didn't even remove the spacer because it was attached to a wiggly tooth and they were afraid the tooth would come out with it and they weren't able to do that??? I was extremely unimpressed and downright upset about the x-rays. I'm sure this orthodontics COULD be as good as most reviewers suggest, but I spent over an hour to essentially receive no service.

They lady at the front desk her attitude. Horrible to me. The appointment was at 1030.she claim she call me told me they move the appointment to 7:00am so I get way down here told me me they cancelled me out call. So I had to reschedule it the point was at 1030 they did night she my child tell 11: 47am I very up set

I had my first appointment today, and it exceeded my expectations. Each staff member was incredibly kind, and Dr. Butterfoss Barton was amazing. She was thorough in explaining everything to me, and she had such a personable, and calming demeanor. I left the office today feeling well informed, so much so that I could make a concrete decision today. Though it sounds crazy to say, I look forward to starting my journey with braces with her. I'm glad my dentist referred me to this practice.

Dr. Butterfoss and Barton and Pappas did a great job with every visit of my braces and also did both of my children , that are 12 and 10 and have already finished their braces and look great. I am just finishing up with Invisaline and I am extremely happy. I would recommend any orthodontic care you need this is the place!

I would highly recommend this practice as their office is not only pleasing to the eye with the addition of refreshments offered while you wait, but the staff is incredibly warm and welcoming. It's quite apparent that all staff are invested in not just your care, but in your life too - a hard-to-find quality these days. If an orthodontist is what you need, this practice is most definitely the way to go!

I have been visiting this practice for over 20 years. I was a patient back in 1990-91 during the transition from Dr. Clayton to Dr. Butterfoss. Then years later my son became a patient with a very complicated treatment plan. I am back as a patient, being treated with Invisalign this time around. Every single time has been a great success. Dr. Butterfoss and Dr. Barton are extremely professional, caring and have extensive experience. I have referred many friends over the years, and as a dental assistant I have referred numerous patients to seek treatment at this practice. I have complete confidence that their treatment will be a success as well. Keep up the good work!!
