Our dentist and orthodontist, Dr. Derek Busciglio, is ABO certified, which requires more extensive training and testing than the minimum required for a state license. He, along with our friendly, professional staff, can provide you and your family with quality orthodontic services throughout your lives.
The dental specialty of orthodontics deals with malocclusions, which is a broad term referring to misalignments of the teeth and bite. Orthodontists are dentists with additional training in correcting these problems. Orthodontic treatments can range from non-invasive treatments such as Invisalign clear aligners to jaw surgery to correct severe issues with biting and chewing.
An orthodontist is a dentist who has had additional special training in orthodontics beyond general dentistry, which is primarily concerned with dental hygiene and basic tooth conditions such as cavities. The additional training in orthodontics may take three to five years to complete beyond general dental school.
Orthodontist Dr. Derek Busciglio is board certified with the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO). ABO certification is not required by the state, but is a voluntary certification. Obtaining ABO certification is a very rigorous process that is far above and beyond the requirements for state licensure.
To pass the board, additional education, testing, and assessments are required that show a dedication to high standards of orthodontic practice. The orthodontist must also complete a CODA accredited orthodontic program as well as an accredited residency of two to three years. It is a great achievement to receive ABO certification only about 20% of orthodontists are ABO certified.

Early orthodontic treatment for children is often the best way to prevent more problems down the line. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, children should have their first orthodontic evaluation by the age of seven.
This is the best age to evaluate children, as typically the front four adult teeth have come in on both the upper and lower jaw. Permanent molars may have also appeared. By evaluating children at this age, Dr. Busciglio can identify any potential issues or future problems. Sometimes, spacers may be used to make sure that there is enough room for the rest of the adult teeth to appear.
Once the adult teeth have appeared, a child may be a candidate for braces, or if a teenager, Invisalign clear aligners. We offer traditional metal braces as well as ceramic and self-ligated braces. Metal and ceramic braces can be customized with colored elastic bands of your childs choosing, which is quite popular with kids these days and makes the treatment more appealing.
With modern orthodontics technologies, we can help adults achieve the same great results that we can achieve with children and teens. We also offer popular translucent or tooth-colored ceramic braces and Invisalign clear aligners that can blend in with your teeth.

I took my 1 year old in for her first dentist visit & everyone in the office was amazing & kind. They were so sweet; after the flouride treatment my daughter didn't like the taste so she started to gag and threw up. I was embarrassed ofc but they understood and cleaned it up without hesitation (& cleaned my pants too!). Definitely switching offices for my two year old and bringing her here for her next cleaning. We have found our pediatric dentist!

Both of my children have received different treatment at Busciglio Smiles. My daughter had to have a palate expander, traditional braces to correct her open bite, and is now in a retainer. My son is using Invisalign and rubber bands. Their smiles are amazing! It literally changed the shape of their face to correct some major issues. I also appreciated Dr.Busciglio's honest evaluation of my kids and they didn't push any treatment until the kids were ready. They were seen at the same time, and was told that my daughter needed intervention immediately, but my son needed to wait for his next growth spurt. A year later, he was ready. I am thankful for their honesty!

Post Treatment Review: I had treatment for braces several years ago through another orthodontist office. After noticing shifts over the years from not regularly wearing my retainers, I consulted Busciglio Smiles. During the consultation I was informed that I would be a good candidate for the touch Touch Up Program. My understanding of this program is that it is for individuals who previous wore braces and had minor shifting that could be address through a shortened program. After finishing the 10 trays that were provided via the Touch Up Program, I informed the doctor that I was not satisfied with the results. The response I received was that the program only included 10 aligners and if I wanted to continue treatment then I would need to move to a comprehensive plan that would cost an additional $3500. In reviewing the paperwork that I initially signed for the Touch Up Program, there were no specific details indicating that I would need additional treatment after the 10 aligners. My understanding of the treatment program, based on what was shared during the consultation, was my teeth would be back to their original post-braces state (or very close to it). The information provided to me was misleading and I would not have paid $2500 for minimal shifts in my teeth. If I needed additional treatment beyond the 10 aligners, to achieve my desired results, then those options should have been discussed during the consultation so I could have made an informed decision on whether to proceed. I am very disappointed with the treatment that I received and suggest others to strongly consider the experience I had. *I provided two stars as the staff was always courteous and I was seen on time during each visit.
