Dr. G. Preston Burns, III, was born in Virginia and grew up in Stafford County. After graduating from Stafford Senior High School he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in biology from James Madison University
Following in his fathers footsteps, he was accepted early into the MCV Dental School at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1999 and returned to Fredericksburg to join the practice with his father. He received his training for intravenous conscious sedation from the American Society for the Advancement of Anesthesia in Dentistry at St. Josephs Medical Center, and he is one of a few general dentists in the State to hold an IV Sedation Permit. He has advanced training in bone grafting and implants and is one of a small percentage of doctors to hold Diplomate status within the International Dental Implant Association (IDIA)
Dr. Preston Burns moved the practice into the digital age in 2005 by introducing CAD/CAM computer-assisted crowns and onlays with CEREC 3D. He has kept up with the rapid changes in CAD/CAM dentistry and uses PrimeScan from Dentsply Sirona, one of the most precise and fastest scanner on the market. In 2002, he was one of the first dentists in the country to begin using Invisalign (computer-generated clear braces) and now has extensive experience with other clear aligner systems, such as SureSmile. Keeping the practice modern, in 2011 he began using digital x-ray imaging and purchased our own CBCT, (Cone Beam Computer Tomography), which is the standard of care for implant treatment planning. He has now introduced the first dental CO2 laser, by Solea, to move our practice into the future.
Dr. Burns has been an active member of the dental community with memberships in the ADA, VDA, AGD, IDIA, VADIVS, the RVDS and the local Seattle Study Club. He served as President or Vice President of the Rappahannock Valley Dental Society (RVDS) for ten years. He is also an officer in the Virginia Association of Dentists for Intravenous Sedation (VADIVS). He has given his time to the community by volunteering his services at the Moss Free Clinic in Fredericksburg and has been on many mission trips placing implants, extracting teeth and doing complex bone grafting with the Fundacion Dr Garg in the Dominican Republic.
Dr. Burns acquired ownership of his fathers practice in October 2011 and took on the new practice name of Burns Family Dentistry, PC. In his spare time he enjoys nature, traveling, photography, paddle boarding and spending time with family. He resides in Stafford with his wife, Sandy, and their two young daughters.

We have been searching for a competent and caring dentist forever. Burns Family Dentistry came highly recommended. I am so happy that we finally found a dentist's office that knows what they are doing and provides quality customer care. For our very first visit, they made us feel like they had been working with us forever. I can't stand the dentist and my five year old child was apprehensive as well. Both of us left Burns Family Dentistry completely at ease and looking forward to our future visits with this office.

Exceptional dentist office. Everyone is very nice and I felt relaxed and well cared for. They can do crowns in one day, which is a wonderful bonus for me, no more dealing with temporary crown hassles. I'm so glad I found them!

Burns Family Dentistry truly provides a personal and caring touch to your teeth. They explain everything (and more if you ask) about how and why they are checking the health of your teeth, gums, mouth, etc. Their approach is very thorough -- much more than any other dentist I've had in the past. So glad they are my new "family" dentist.

I love every hygienist in Burns. I had Karen today and she is fabulous! The employees are obviously all very happy and they are kind and professional. Their doctors are also very thoughtful - I had a tooth they considered a filling for, but after a look from the Dr, he did not see the benefit in filling my tooth even though it would have profited them. I leave smiling every time. Unfortunately I am having an insurance change and I feel like I am going to have a hard time finding an office that competes with their service.

Nobody wants to go to the dentist but when you must I wouldn't trust anybody but the doctors and staff at Burns. We've been faithful patients since we moved to Virginia in 2005. We feel very lucky to have them there to help and support our all dental needs.

Hands down the BEST dentist in Fredericksburg! I have been to A LOT of dentists across the country and Burns is THE BEST I have experienced. The staff is friendly, the dentists are knowledgeable and use the latest technology, the office is clean and always pleasant. Truly a pain-free and easy-going experience every time.

Today was another great visit with Burns family dentistry. Just a normal cleaning and checkup but, as is my normal experience, everyone is cheerful and accommodating from the moment I walked through the door. Going back later in the week to have an older implant tightened. My friends have long suspected me of having at least one loose screw.

This was my first experience with Dr Burns. My former dentist of 35 years retired last year so this was first visit to a new dentist (as you can imagine I was definitely anxious). I have to say from the receptionist, dental hygienist, to both Dr Burns and Dr Karns I was treated with the utmost professionalism. They did a very thorough exam, review my dental history and did a through health assessment. They took time and explained everything completely. They answered all my questions and I never felt rushed. I would definitely recommend this dental practice to anyone who is looking for a new dentist.
