America turned a corner in the 1960s. During the Johnson Administration, the growing public health needs began to be addressed. The office of Economic Opportunity was formed in 1964 with a mandate to eliminate poverty. By the early 1970s, many Americans were falling through the cracks of the healthcare establishment.
