Infection control in our office is also very important to us. To protect our patients and ourselves, we strictly maintain sterilization and cross contamination processes using standards recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
Dr. Mark A. Allen graduated from Kalamazoo College with a B. A. in chemistry in May 1977 and from the University of Michigan with a D.D.S. in 1981. He has a long list of continuing education seminars which highlights two summers of extensive studies with Joseph Clayton, DDS in 1992-1993 at the University of Michigan focusing on full mouth rehabilitation and work with TMJ. Dr. Allen was inducted to the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics in 2007.
Currently, Dr. Allenis a clinical instructor at the Kois Learning Center in Seattle, Washington, and averages 150 hours of continuing education per year. Dr. Allen is a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and The Francis B. Vedder Society of Crown and Bridge Prosthodontics. He is a part time faculty member at Western Michigan University, and head coach of the Western Michigan University Rugby team.
Dr. Harris graduated from Alma College with a B.A. degree in Sociology in 2002. She attended the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry and received her D.D.S. in 2009. She is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, American and Michigan Dental Associations, and the Kalamazoo Valley District Dental Society. Dr. Harris is a certified Invisalign and 6 Month Smiles Provider. She has completed the Faculte for Orthodontic Research and Education program. Dr. Harris is a clinical assistant professor at the WMU Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine and on the Advisory Board at KVCC Dental Hygiene program.
Dr. Thomas Aye graduated from Western Michigan University with a B.S. in Biology; from the University of Michigan with a D.D.S.; and from the University of Maryland with a M.S. and Certification in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is certified as a Diplomat by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a Fellow of the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and a member of the Michigan Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Aye served as the President of the Kalamazoo Valley District Dental Society, and has been practicing his dental surgical specialty in Kalamazoo for approximately thirty years.
We are excited to welcome Dr. Diederich to the staff! Dr. Diederich received his Bachelor of Science, Doctor of Dental Surgery and Master of Science degree in Periodontics from the University of Michigan. Before his specialty training, he spent three years in the U.S. Public Health Service as a general dentist and completed a general practice residency. After two years as a full time faculty instructor at U of M, he established a full time practice limited to periodontics in Battle Creek in 1984.Dr. Diederich is an active member of the Michigan and American Dental Associations, The American Academy of Periodontology, The International Congress of Oral Implantologists and The American Academy of Oral Implantology. He is a Diplomate of The American Board of Periodontology, a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and a past President of the Michigan Periodontal Association.

After suffering a significant injury to my front teeth back in 1981, having oral surgery in 1995 to change my Life and then having to find a dentist after 25 years to "hopefully" restore my smile again this past week was horrifying! I reached out socially for help, Dr. Mark Allen was mentioned multiple times, so I made the phone call. My horrifying experience turned quickly into assurance when I spoke to Carol on the phone, after talking to her, I knew I was going to be ok! Carol get me in right away, Dr. Mark kept me calm, said we could give it a try! Then he handed me over his TALENTED daughter Katie! In less than a week, my broken off implant was researched, planned and action taken! Let me tell you, Katie and her assistants ARE IMPRESSIVE! I never felt pain, repairs made stitches put in and my smile is back! If I could have, I would have bear hugged every one of the great folks in this office, including Dr. Mark. Words cannot convey what you have done for me, just know that I smile every chance I get! A thousand thank you's of appreciation!

Dr. Allen's office in incredible!! I saw Mark at first and immediately felt safe and trusted him! He and Dr. Diederich helped me recover from a past dental nightmare and I now have an implant from them and it's wonderful. I've now worked with Amanda for PT and Dr Katie Allen for Botox for tmj. This place has been a god send for me. I'm moving away soon but will periodically come back to this practice because they are that incredible. Thanks to all of you at Building Functional Esthetics for improving my quality of life!!

Dr. Katie Allen did SUCH an amazing job on my Botox. I've gone to double board certified plastic surgeons for my Botox and dermatologists and Dr. Allen knocked them both out of the park. She gave me just enough movement to not look frozen, but still prevent fine lines and a beautiful brow lift. I live in Washington DC and hold out on going anywhere else until I can make my way back to Michigan to see her. I always feel save, and feel confident that she understands exactly where injections should go for perfect results. I used to have forehead lines even when my face was relaxed, but after consistent treatments with her they are now gone!

Definitely the best from top to bottom with the entire facility. Mark and his staff are all extremely knowledgeable caring. All dental work I have had done there has been phenomenal.
