Middlesex Health is the state's first member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network. This means that ourteam of experts is working together with Mayo Clinic specialists on your behalfsharing the latest lifesaving research, joining forces to resolve the most complex cases, and bringing the world's most advanced medical knowledge here to Connecticut.

It's a network of like-minded health care organizations that share a single goal: improving care through innovation and collaboration. Middlesex Health is working with Mayo Clinic so you and your family can get the best care possible without having to travel far from home.

Middlesex Health was selected to join the Mayo Clinic Care Network because we share a common philosophy, commitment, and mission: to improve the delivery of health care through high-quality, data-driven, evidence-based medical care and treatment. In addition to learning about our culture and our history of providing exceptional patient care, Mayo Clinic conducted a rigorous evaluation process based on quality, service, and operational criteria.

Collaborating with Mayo Clinic means that your care team has access to the latest Mayo knowledge and expertise. Physicians at Middlesex Health can connect electronically with Mayo specialists for additional input on complex cases. They can access Mayo-vetted information on disease management, as well as care guidelines and treatment recommendations. They can also present and discuss challenging cancer cases with teams of Mayo specialists and other network members.

The primary goal of the relationship is to give Connecticut patients the added benefit and peace-of-mind of Mayo Clinic expertise, while continuing to receive care as close to home as possibleonly traveling outside the region when absolutely necessary. Middlesex Health physicians are under no obligation to refer patients to Mayo Clinic.

Your health care provider at Middlesex Health will use eConsults to get additional input from Mayo Clinic specialists when he or she believes it will be helpful to your treatment. If you have any questions about your care, please talk with your provider at Middlesex Health.

Our urgent care clinics are open seven days a week and are supported by a health system you can trust. If you do not have a primary care provider or if your condition requires additional treatment, we can quickly arrange for follow-up care with one of the many specialists in our network.

If you need immediate medical attention for a non-life threatening concern, it is safe to come to an urgent care office. We are going above and beyond even our normal commitment to providing care in a safe, clean environment. Our friendly and compassionate medical team provides the high-quality care you have come to expect from Middlesex Health.

In addition to the wide range of health insurance plans accepted, Middlesex Health Urgent Care offers flat-rate fees for self-pay patients (Example: PPD placement and reading, Pre-Employment Physical, Camp Physical)

Middlesex Health Urgent Care administers PCR molecular tests. A COVID-19 PCR molecular test uses a nasal or nasopharyngeal swab, and this test is processed by Middlesex Healths Laboratory. PCR testing is offered at Middlesex Health Urgent Cares offices in both Middletown and Old Saybrook seven days a week. Patients can expect their results in 24 to 48 hours.

  • Individuals who have symptoms of COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that anyone with any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 get tested, regardless of vaccination status or prior infection.
  • Those who have been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19. If you have been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, you should get tested three to five days after you were with them. (Note: Close contact means that you were within 6 feet of the person for 15 minutes or more during a 24-hour period.)
  • Individuals who are not vaccinated, but who have participated in activities that put them at higher risk for COVID-19 because they cannot maintain appropriate social distance. Activities that may put you at higher risk include traveling, attending large social or mass gatherings and being in crowded or poorly-ventilated indoor settings.
  • Middlesex Health Urgent Care evaluates each patient individually. While urgent care locations provide drive-up COVID-19 testing, they also evaluate patients in person and through telehealth visits to ensure that all patients feel comfortable while getting the care they need.

Upon arrival, you should park in the designated drive-up testing parking spaces and call your Urgent Care office from your car. You will then speak with a staff member to complete your registration and get instructions on how to proceed.

A Middlesex Health Urgent Care staff member may come to your car to evaluate you and administer your COVID-19 test, if needed, unless you are instructed to enter the urgent care office. Please keep your mask on at all times and maintain your social distance as you interact with staff.

Middlesex Health Urgent Care locations are taking extra precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please know that staff are screened each day for COVID-19 symptoms, and all Middlesex Health employees are required to get vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they are granted an exemption or deferral.

  • Has a specific process that patients with COVID-19 symptoms follow if they need to be seen inside an office. This allows these patients to immediately be taken into a private exam room, again reducing the chances of other patients being exposed to the virus.
  • Helps all patients avoid the waiting room by calling the office from the parking lot. The patient registration process can be completed over the phone, and a staff member will call you when it is time for you to be seen by a provider.
  • Designates specific rooms for patients who have, or are presumed to have, COVID-19. These rooms utilize specialized air filtration equipment. In addition, each urgent care office has a negative pressure isolation room, which helps contain airborne diseases.
  • Per order of the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH), face masks are still required in health care settings. You must wear an approved mask while at a Middlesex Health facility regardless of whether you've been vaccinated. Approved masks include surgical masks or KN95 masks. Cloth face coverings and masks with exhalation valves are not allowed. Cloth masks, however, may be worn over a surgical mask if you are interested in wearing a double mask. If you arrive at a Middlesex Health facility without an approved mask, one will be provided to you at no cost.
  • Makes hand sanitizer readily available. Patients and visitors are asked to sanitize their hands when they enter a building. All urgent care staff members must also sanitize their hands before and after they meet patients.
  • If you are experiencing mild symptoms, such as a temperature below 100 degrees, aches, pains, a mild cough, etc. Start by simply getting some rest, drink plenty of fluids, take over-the-counter medications like Tylenol, if needed, and monitor your symptoms.

If your symptoms are not getting any better over time or worsen, and you feel you need to be seen by a doctor, the first step is to call your primary care physician. Many ofMiddlesex Health's primary care physiciansoffervirtual visitsand can assess patients by phone or video call fairly quickly.

You should call 911 or come right to theEmergency Roomif you have severe pain or sudden onset of severe symptoms, a fever that won 't break, or 'something doesn 't work,' like you 're unable to move an arm or leg or breathe normally. This includes if a person has a severe injury or allergic reaction if they pass out or experience any signs of a stroke or heart attack.

Dr Bryan Meriam and his staff are outstanding. I would recommend this provider to anyone needing oral surgery. He is an expert in his field and has excellent patient outcomes. He did a challenging procedure on my daughter and I am happy to say she is thrilled with the results. If you or your family need implants or any type of oral surgery look no further. This is the practice you want to go to. I have referred many friends and family and they are all very happy with the results. Dr Miriam also manages any pain or discomfort very well and makes it easy for the patient to get through the process....whatever it may be. The office staff was also very helpful and responsive to any insurance needs we had. Great practice-awesome Doctor!
