Orthodontics can be a life-changing experience;it certainly was for me! My own treatment not only corrected the function of my smile, but also increased my self-esteem and improved my outlook on life. I hope to have that same effect on my own patients!
I have been practicing orthodontics for so long now that it has become a part of me. The people I work with and treat are the biggest joy and the biggest challenge, and I look forward to every day in my office. Its always guaranteed to be an adventure!
I received my bachelors degree at Johns Hopkins University in 1979, with deans list honors. Then I attended theColumbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery for my dental training as well as my specialty in orthodontics in 1987.
My years of teaching biomechanics and wire properties at Columbia College of Dental Medicine to the orthodontic postgraduate students have made me uniquely qualified to apply scientific principles to achieve each patients goals during and after treatment.
I am currently a member of the Second District Dental Society, New York State Dental Association, American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, andNortheasternSociety of Orthodontists.
I am also past president of the Columbia Orthodontic Alumni Society and the Richmond County Dental Society. Your children may recognize me from my school visits during February Childrens Dental Health Month. I remain active with the local dental society as a trustee to the Second District and a longtime volunteer and supporter of many local causes here on Staten Island, including Project Hospitality and the YMCA Counseling and Support Services. My staff and I take extensive training and continuing education to give you the best possible service.
Originally from Woodhaven, Queens, Ive lived in central New Jersey for 25 years. My wife is the head of academic advising at Rutgers State University of New Jersey. She also likes working with young people to improve their outlooks and futures.
I love New York City: the theater, museums, and the beautiful parks. My wife and I can be found on most nice weekends biking, hiking, or enjoying dim sum in Chinatown! We also take occasional trips to go scuba diving!
Dr. Jordan Lissauer grew up in sunny Florida. From a young age, he enjoyed hanging around his dad's dental office a little too much. His first drawings were actually of cartoon teeth. He then needed braces, twice, and oddly enough loved the process so much that he decided to become an orthodontist.
After high school, Dr. Lissauer followed his older brother to the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) and graduated in 2004 as Co-Valedictorian and was elected as a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Next, he followed in his dad's footsteps and attended Tufts Dental School, where he graduated Summa cum laude and was again honored as Valedictorian.
After graduating dental school, Dr. Lissauer decided to move from Boston to New York City. Within a few months, he met his wife Amy - a New Yorker (explaining why this Floridian settled down in the Northeast). In NYC, he continued his training as a general practice resident at Coler-Goldwater Hospital on Roosevelt Island and was appointed Chief Resident.
In 2013, he fulfilled his childhood dream and graduated from a three-year Orthodontic Residency program at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. Soon thereafter, he became a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Lissauer loves being an orthodontist more than he ever imagined and his expectations were pretty high. He enjoys the beautiful smiles but, even more, getting to know patients, families and the community.
Outside of the orthodontic office, Dr. Lissauer spends almost every moment with his wife and their two wonderful sons Cole and Jack. The Lissauer family loves to hike, ski, go to the beach, attend concerts, cheer on Michigan and travel - but mainly back to sunny Florida.
