Dr. Brown is a native of Snow Hill, graduating from Greene Central High School in 1975. He received a Bachelors degree in Biology from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1979. From 1979 to 1982, Dr. Brown was a research assistant in the Department of Pathology at the UNC School of Medicine. He received his dental degree from the UNC School of Dentistry in 1986 and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society. Dr. Brown completed his Master in Orthodontics degree at the UNC School of Dentistry in 1989.
Dr. Brown has enjoyed being an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at UNC for the past 25 years, where he has the opportunity to teach orthodontic residents and treat patients in the UNC Graduate Orthodontic Clinic one day every other week. This opportunity allows Dr. Brown to stay abreast of the latest and most modern techniques in orthodontics and positively impact the next generation of orthodontists. In his spare time, Dr. Brown enjoys his favorite hobby, photography, and spending time in the outdoors with his family. He and his wife, Kim, have three children.
Dr. Matthew Brown is a native of Kinston, graduating as salutatorian from Kinston High School in 2004. He received a Bachelor of Science with distinction in Biology and a minor in Chemistry from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2008. He completed all of his graduate education at the UNC School of Dentistry, receiving his dental degree with distinction in 2012. Dr. Matt graduated in the top 5% of his dental school class and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society. He completed his Master in Orthodontics degree in 2015.
During his 3 year residency in orthodontics, Dr. Matt was exposed to the most advanced orthodontic treatment techniques, including mini implants, Invisalign, soft tissue lasers, and orthognathic surgery. His Master 's thesis project, titled 'Effectiveness and efficiency of a CAD/CAM orthodontic bracket system', was published in the December 2015 edition of the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. He received the 2015 Research Award from the UNC Orthodontic Alumni Association for outstanding contributions to research in the field. Dr. Matt achieved his board certification with the American Board of Orthodontics in 2016, a distinction held by less than a third of practicing orthodontists.
Outside of the office, Dr. Matt enjoys spending time at the beach, fishing, surfing, playing sports and working on cars. He and his wife, Mackenzie, have a 3 year old daughter (Lila) that makes sure there is never a dull moment around the house and a sweet Goldendoodle named Cruiser!
Susan is our front desk coordinator and has been a vital part of the office since 2004. Susan's calm and caring demeanor is greatly appreciated by our patients and their families as she works closely with them throughout their orthodontic care. In her free time, Susan enjoys reading, going to the beach, decorating cakes with her son, and spending time with her family - especially her grandchildren, Zander and Kailey!
Dana is one of our clinical assistants and has been part of the team since 2015. Dana is fascinated by the tremendous changes seen during orthodontic treatment and loves interacting with patients. She enjoys cooking, shopping, going to the beach, and spending time with her husband, Brandon, and their dog, Zoey!
Amy is our newest clinical assistant and joined the team in 2016. Amy has a passion for orthodontics and patient care, and strives to create a wonderful clinic environment. She and her husband, Chad, have two daughters and a sweet dachshund named Gracie! In her free time, Amy likes to be with her family, enjoy the outdoors and go shopping with her girls!

I'd been given options from another office that I wasn't too happy with, and wanted a second opinion. Dr. Matt Brown worked with me and made sure that I was happy with my smile without an extraction. Each visit, he walked me step by step with what he was doing. I just got my braces removed recently and I've never been happier, I'd refer anybody here!

Went in for a consultation and was very impressed with the care that I received from Doctors and staff at Browns Orthodontics. These folks have put braces on both of my daughters and are now treating my grandkids......What more can I can!

From the time we walked in the door until we left, everyone was extremely nice and helpful. Dr. Brown and Dr. Matt talked not only to me but also my son (who was the patient). They explained everything and allowed us to ask questions. Office staff was great at explaining how payment options worked.

So glad I did it !!!!!! I am so happy that I finally decided to get that smile I have always wanted. The staff were all very courteous and professional. Both Drs Brown and Dr Matt were very knowledgeable and show each patient the same high level of care. They take the time it takes, regardless, to explain everything and to make sure you are always comfortable. Highly recommend to both the young and old. 5 GOLD stars
