Dr. Nathan Hilbrands is a South Dakota native, proudly graduating from South Dakota State University in 2007. He went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Iowa in 2013. Dr. Hilbrands and his wife, Miranda, moved to Brookings in 2013 after completing dental school. He was awarded the National Health Service Corps Scholarship prior to dental school and practiced at the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribal Health Clinic as the Chief Dental Officer for the last 5 years. Dr. Hilbrands is excited to be serving the people of Brookings and the surrounding communities with quality family oriented care.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Hilbrands loves to spend time with family and friends. You will meet his wife, Miranda, as she will be the office's hygienist. They have three sons, Landry, Lavin and Lawson that keep them on their toes. They also have a dog, Wren, so there is never a dull moment in the Hilbrands household! Dr. Hilbrands enjoys having season tickets for Jackrabbit football, fishing, and playing sports in his spare time. He also coaches Special Olympics basketball and softball in Brookings.
Nikki grew up in Elkton, SD. She graduated from Lake Area Technical Institute for Dental Assisting in 2013. She enjoys spending time with her husband Cody and son Mack. When she is not at the office she is working on her photography business which she also enjoys as a hobby.
Miranda grew up in Madison, SD. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from The University of South Dakota in 2008. Upon Dr. Hilbrands graduation from dental school in 2013, they moved back to South Dakota, got married, and have called Brookings home for the last 5 years. In her free time, Miranda enjoys chasing her 3 boys, Landry, Lavin and Lawson.
Desarae grew up in Chester, SD and moved to Brookings to attend SDSU. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management with a minor in Business and Management in 2014. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Luke and their three girls, Henlee, Haven and Shay. Most of their time is spent being outside, dancing in the kitchen and visiting family.
Ashley grew up in Dell Rapids, SD. She graduated from Lake Area Tech in 2014 with her Associates Degree in Dental Assisting. Her and husband, Jared, and their two daughters reside in the Flandreau area. Ashley can be seen helping with their family's auction business when shes not caring for our patients. She also enjoys cooking, warm weather activities, and coffee.
Heather grew up in Hendricks, MN and attended Minnesota West Community and Technical College for Dental Assisting. She now calls White, SD home. She enjoys spending time outdoors, golfing, deer hunting, and spending time with her family.

Excellent dental business. Everyone is extremely friendly, keep your best health in mind while also helping you through insurance and payment related events. Feel like I'm going there to chat with friends and less like a tooth cleaning. Will always have my business.

Due to the caring and warm atmosphere from being greeted when I arrived to time in the chair. Thank you, and your staff for making going to the dentist something to look forward to and not fear! Thank for getting me into the chair in such short notice. I definitely will rescind them!

The whole staff was absolutely wonderful! Facilities were nice and clean, check in was easy, and the dental cleaning was awesome. 10/10 highly recommend!!

Brookings Family Dentistry fit me in at the last minute as a new patient. I was experiencing a lot of pain with sudden sensitivity to hot and cold in two teeth. With a vacation oversees coming up in less than two weeks, Dr Hilbrands fixed the issue at the first appointment. He was extremely gentle and I felt no pain. I am very grateful, thank you. His assistant was also lovely.

I very rarely give a 5 star rating for anywhere, it's just so rare of an occurrence these days. However, Nate and Miranda with Brookings Family Dentistry deserve 5, if not more!! My previous experience left me scared to get my teeth cleaned to the point of avoiding the dentist for four years!! I had what I thought was a tooth emergency and decided to try BFD because they are located close to my work and came recommended by a colleague. I am so very happy that I did! I just had my second cleaning today and didn't feel the least bit trepidatious about setting my next 6 month cleaning appointment before leaving!! Thank you Miranda for being as gentle as possible and relieving me from my dental anxiety! You did pretty good too Nate

Was out of town from Alabama knocked off a crown wasn't gonna be able to get back home for two weeks. So Dr. Nate and the staff helped me out it was a wonderful experience no problem at all very nice staff and doc! I recommend highly! Mike Albritton

The people here are wonderful especially Flannery and Dr. Nate. The exam/cleaning happens while you're in a massage chair while watching TV, and the group of people working here are even more impressive. I drove two hours round trip for my appointment and it was more than worth it!

Very friendly Dentist office , very open large lobby even a children's area. The hygienist rooms has very adjustable TV so when they are cleaning your teeth you can watch your favorite show. Message rollers run on your back. The staff is very people friendly

I had a very pleasant and relaxing experience at BFD. The office was able to schedule me an appointment the same day. Not only are staff up-to-date with dental technology and techniques they are professional and caring. And to top off my dental visit, the examination chair doubled as a back massager.

Our family recently moved into the area. We immediately established ourselves as new patients with Dr Hilbrands. We cannot be more pleased! The front office staff was friendly and professional. Miranda and Dr Hilbrands greeted us and made us feel welcome and comfortable. Thank you to Dr Hilbrands, Miranda, and staff for making our initial visit such a pleasant experience.
