After graduating Magna Cum Laude from New Mexico State University with his biology degree, Dr. Gilbert earned his dental degree from the University of Colorado School of Dentistry, where he was named valedictorian. He fine-tuned his skills through several post-graduate programs including the Baylor College of Dentistry Post-Graduate Continuum and the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies.
Dr. Gilbert is a contributing editor to the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry, an internationally-circulated publication for cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Gilbert is the only cosmetic dentist who is accredited by American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) in Las Cruces and the El Paso region of west Texas.
Dr. Gilbert has been a featured lecturer, educator and presenter across North America and has published numerous articles on cosmetic dentistry techniques in prestigious dental journals including, the New Mexico Dental Journal, Dentistry Today, and the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry.
He has beena clinical instructor and lecturer with Aesthetic Advantage, a post-graduate program for cosmetic dentistry based in New York, and, for whom, he has taught with a team of cosmetic dentistry specialists in Palm Beach, Florida. In addition, he has been a clinical instructor for both the Albuquerque Dental Study Group and the LV Institute for Advanced Dental Studies in Nevada. Dr. Gilbert also spends much time each year mentoring younger dentists in restorative and cosmetic dentistry techniques.

This is the best place in Las Cruces for dental care, bar none. Dr. Gilbert is attentive and personable, and his staff never fails to go above and beyond to make patients comfortable. Andy was so kind and very concerned with my comfort level during my cleaning, stopping every so often to check and make sure I was still doing okay. Edit: I have returned and Jennifer has been wonderful yet again and they are so covid-responsible and aware. Thanks for keeping us safe and keeping our teeth clean Edit 2: I returned once more and Jennifer was epic as per usual, everyone is so covid aware and working to keep you safe and your teeth clean it's very rad. Edit 3: once again Jennifer was very great I always love it here because the seats have warmers and massagers and they give me blankets. I've been a patient at Bright Star Dental almost 20 years, beginning at their office in Arroyo Plaza. I recently sought a second opinion for a rather costly bridge replacement Gilbert was recommending. In that exam, I was TOTALLY BLINDSIDED to learn that the most critical concern for me was not a bridge... but that I have gum disease! Periodontitis with infection present and some pockets so deep as to have caused, and be causing, bone loss. This does not develop overnight! How does this happen when I have my teeth cleaned every 6 months? The point is that NEVER, in all my many visits, has Gilbert or the hygienist ever alerted me to potential problems, even mentioned gum disease, or referred me to a periodontist. Considering the numerous other procedures Gilbert has performed, it's troubling to think he has basically been building on an unstable foundation. Nothing was going to last. Brian Gilbert is a nice man, his office is pleasant and the staff is friendly, but it is a bummer that preventative care, which should be the basis of good dental care, isn't a priority here.
