Dr Barno joined the practice in 2013 after serving for five years as a dentist in the United States Army. Dr. Barno received his BS in Biology from The Citadel and attended dental school at the Medical University of South Carolina on a full scholarship. In between undergraduate and dental school, Dr Barno studied Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Indiana University.

Following dental school, Dr Barno joined the U.S. Army Dental Corps and completed a 1-year AEGD (Advanced Education in General Dentistry) residency that focused heavily on comprehensive dentistry, surgery, and complex treatment planning. He is an active member of the SC Dental Association, the American Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry. His professional interests lie in cosmetic and restorative dentistry (Crowns, Bridges, Dentures, and Implants) and endodontics (root canals).

In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. He enjoys sculpture, playing drums, and running. He and his family live in Blythewood and are members of Blythewood Presbyterian Church. Dr Barnos wife, Michaela, is the manager of the Blythewood Farmers Market.

Dr Barno is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and was awarded the Combat Action Badge and the Bronze Star Medal for his service in combat with the 25th Infantry Division. He is a graduate of the US Army Airborne school, the Combat Casualty Care Course, and the Armed Forces Institute of Pathologys Forensic Dentistry course.

I was very impressed with the friendly professional service. From the receptionist to the dental tech to the financial consultant. Dr. Barno was so kind and positive he really made me feel safe and comfortable. I drove 1 1/2 hours to get there it was well worth it. I highly recommend Brickyard Dental Group!

Dr. Christopher Robnett started this practice over thirty years ago at its present location in Northeast Columbia. He grew up in the area and graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1974, Clemson in 1978, and MUSC in 1983. He met his wife Dixie while at Spring Valley and they have three grown children and currently six grandchildren.

As most of his patients know, he loves to sail on Lake Murray, play his upright bass as part of a praise ensemble at his church, and working with wood. Needless to say the increasing number of grandchildren takes precedence over all of this.

He says that most of all though, God has blessed him with not only an unbelievable wife and family but also a very special dental practice with great patients and staff. I have had the unique opportunity to develop longterm relationships with countless patients/friends and we have gone through the highs and lows of life together. I also have the privilege of them trusting me for their dental health needs.

Dr. Robnett believes that it is his responsibility to work closely with a select group of dental specialists to provide for his patients the treatment plan that will keep their mouth healthy for their lifetime. He takes a special interest in providing the restorative treatment necessary for this whether it be fillings, crowns, bridges or making crowns or partials that are to be used in conjunction with dental implants. He has also performed cosmetic procedures such as porcelain veneers since their inception in the 1980s, along with composite bonding and bleaching.

Dr. Drew Edwards joined the practice in 2019. He grew up in the Atlanta area, and moved to Columbia to attend the University of South Carolina, where he majored in Marketing and Management. He worked as an EMT for a year before attending MUSC for dental school.

Dr. Edwards is passionate about patient care, and feels very fortunate to work in a practice committed to the health and well being of its patients. He looks forward to giving back to the community by fostering lasting relationships with his patients, based on a foundation of trust.

In his free time, Dr. Edwards enjoys playing guitar and singing at various restaurants and venues in Columbia. He also enjoys volunteering and community service, as well as exercising and playing with his dog, Penny.

Originally from Huntsville, AL, Dr. Shah attended UNC Chapel Hill and received a bachelor of science degree in Public Health with a minor in Chemistry. She then received her DMD from University of Alabama in Birmingham. She came to Columbia, SC to complete a one-year general practice residency at Prisma Health, and decided to make Columbia her home. She loves cooking, playing games with family and friends, and trying out new activities. Her newest hobby is pickleball! She stays involved in the community, volunteering with Harvest Hope, Childrens Dental Health Clinic, and Make-A-Wish of SC. What she loves most about dentistry is getting to know all types of people, learning about their culture, families, and passions. She is honored to work alongside other phenomenal dentists and be part of an amazing team.

Dr Shah is a wonderful person and a gentle and caring dentist. Her clinical skills and high standards for patient care made her the perfect addition to our practice. Please help us welcome her to the Brickyard Dental Group team.

Our doctors and their dental professional team work in a state-of-the-art dental office, designed to deliver advanced cosmetic and restorative dental treatments all under one roof, quickly and efficiently. The office features some of the most advanced technology available, including a digital X-ray imaging system and a 3D Intraoral Digital Scanner. The result is precise, predictable, and beautiful results every time.

Here at Brickyard Dental Group, we use digital x-rays for all of our intra-oral radiographs. Instead of developing X-ray film in a dark room, the X-rays are sent directly to a computer and can be viewed on screen, stored, or printed out. There are several benefits of using this new technology:

If necessary, images can be electronically sent to another dentist or specialist for instance, for a second opinion on a dental problem to determine if a specialist is needed, or to a new dentist when you move.

While X-rays provide important information that we cant get from any other source, they dont show you everything thats going on in your mouth. Thats why we have invested in an intraoral camera a highly advanced piece of diagnostic technology that allows you to see what we see inside your mouth.

The intraoral camera is approximately the size and shape of a dental mirror. It has a built-in light source, and serves as a tiny video camera that allows us to zoom in on one tooth with magnification. The images can be displayed on a television or computer monitor, so you will be able to see problems such as worn or broken fillings, cracked teeth, plaque accumulation, cavities next to fillings and excessive wear. We can also print or email an image for you to take home with you. These images are also very useful in gaining acceptance for treatment from insurance companies.

A panorex is an xray that provides a complete view of the upper and lower jaws, teeth, roots, temporomandibular joints (TMJs) and maxillary sinuses. Without this critical piece of information, we can sometimes miss pathologic lesion, such as tumors or cysts, extra teeth, and many other conditions that need treatment in a timely fashion.

Cone Beam CT scanner is a an advanced technology that allows us to use x-rays to make 3 dimensional images. This is very important when evaluating patients for wisdom teeth surgery, implants, and root canals. Our Cone Beam CT scanner uses 10 times less radiation than a traditional CT scan and provides a wealth of important information.

At Brickyard Dental Group, our doctors perform an examination of your mouth during each routine dental visit to screen for oral cancer. This is a part of your new patient exam and your checkup so there is no additional fee for this screening examination.

A dental operating microscope provides us the ability to see at levels of magnification that were previously impossible. Many dental procedures require a certain level of magnification to be performed accurately. Certain procedures, such as root canals, need to be performed under magnification. For this reason, most root canal specialists offices use these for all of their treatment.

Our office is equipped with a surgical level dental operating microscope that can magnify up to 25x. Dr Barno uses the microscope every day not only for root canals, but for surgery, fillings, crowns, and diagnosis of cracked teeth. Dr Barno is the only general dentist in the Columbia area to routinely use a microscope for the majority of his procedures.

Dental crowns are caps shaped like a tooth that is placed over the tooth, restoring its strength and shape. Crowns are designed to encase the entire visible portion of the tooth. Crowns can be made of various materials including stainless steel, metals such as gold, porcelain, resin, or ceramic.

A dental crown procedure usually will require two visits to the dentist. First involves an examination and prepping the tooth while the second visit will be installing the new dental crown. During your first visit, the dentist will prep your tooth, usually involving drilling and shaping the tooth, then use a putty to create a mold of the tooth requiring the crown. This mold is sent off to a lab that will create your new crown. You will receive a temporary crown to protect the prepared tooth. These are made of acrylic and fixed using a temporary cement. During this time, it is important to not eat sticky foods, hard foods, and be careful when flossing.

Some people feel discomfort or sensitivity with a new crown, especially after the procedure. You may also experience hot and cold sensitivity that may require a toothpaste for sensitive teeth. If you have pain when you bite down, you should call your dentist and have them examine the crown for an easy adjustment. If a crown falls out due to decaying under the tooth or over time the cement material used to install the crown becomes loos, you should contact your dentist. Bacteria can begin to form and cause tooth decay. If you lose your crown or it feels loose, contact your dentist.
