Dr. Brian Tavoian, also known as 'the Smile Doctor,' has practiced family dentistry in Cedar City, UT, for over 25 years. He is proud to offer sedation dentistry so that even the most nervous patients can experience the benefits of healthy teeth. See why patients recommend us for sedation dentistry:

  • Licensed Anesthesiologist: If you need to go under deep sedation, we will bring in a licensed anesthesiologist who will administer the medication and monitor your vitals at every stage of your dental procedure.
  • Multiple Options: Depending on the extent of your treatment and the level of your anxiety, you can choose from three different forms of sedation: nitrous oxide, oral sedation, or intravenous (IV) sedation.
  • I could be described as your classic irrational fear-laden patient. I have found everyone in the office friendly and efficient. Dr. Tavoian is the best dentist I have had. He is professional and detailed in his work. My dental anxiety has vanished and it is due to he and his entire staff.

The lightest sedation available at our office in Cedar City, UT, is nitrous oxide sedation. Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is a gas patients inhale through a mask placed over the nose. It is usually combined with a local dental anesthetic to eliminate pain. Under laughing gas, you will still be conscious and you will still be able to respond to our dentist. However, you will be relaxed and calm under our care.

Oral sedation is another form of conscious sedation. When you choose oral sedation, our dentist will provide you with a prescription for a sedative in pill form. At a set time before your procedure, you will take this prescribed medication to relieve your anxiety. Similar to nitrous oxide, oral sedation does not provide pain relief, so we can combine the oral medication with a local dental anesthetic for your comfort. Oral sedatives can provide minimal or moderate levels of sedation.

For this type of sedation, the sedative medication is administered through a vein, which allows it to take effect quickly. This method allows our licensed anesthesiologist to adjust the level of sedation throughout the procedure. With IV sedation, you can be placed under moderate or deep sedation. A local anesthetic will likely be applied to help ensure you do not feel pain.

Through sedation, the patient is conscious during the entire process. Though you may not remember what happened during the procedure, you are never completely unconscious while sedated. You can respond to the doctor's questions, and you won't need any assistance in breathing.

With general anesthesia, patients are completely unconscious and unable to respond to external stimuli. Doctors have to monitor the patient's vitals while under anesthesia since they are unconscious. A breathing tube is used to maintain breathing during treatment.

Additionally, patients with arthritis or other conditions that make it difficult to sit still for long periods may be able to improve their dental experience with sedation. However, certain medical conditions may limit your ability to receive sedation. Your medical history can help our dentist select the right method for you.

Dr. Tavoian and his team always go above and beyond! I usually hate going to the dentist, not here though! I drive from Hurricane. I could go somewhere closer, but why?! These guys are awesome and you will not be disappointed!

I really enjoyed my cleaning I had never had one and the tech was awsome the took exams and told me what future work might need to be done the are very thorough and I would definitely go again I'm great full for your service and would like to have the other work needed done there thank u to all the Staff.

The cost will vary depending on the sedation method you choose. Most insurance plans do not contribute to the cost of dental sedation. If you are concerned about out-of-pocket costs, our Cedar City, UT, office accepts CareCredit financing to allow you to makemonthly payments. While sedation is an extra cost, the benefits of a relaxing visit to the dentist are well worth it forpatients who might otherwiseavoid teeth cleanings or other essential care.

Dental implants are an advanced form of restorative dentistry designed to mimic the function and feel of your real teeth. They are made up of the titanium post, the abutment, and the restoration. This multi-component structure ensures maximum stability for your replacement tooth or teeth while protecting your oral structures and bone tissue.

From Barb at the front desk, to every hygienist, to Dr.Tavioan himself I have never received more kind and thorough care! I actually had fun at this dentist visit :) Thanks to ya'll for taking such great care of me and giving me so many reasons to smile. I am amazed!!

If you are missing one or more teeth, you may be a candidate for dental implants. However, you must meet certain qualifications before undergoing the procedure. Some factors we take into consideration include:

One of the most important qualifying factors for dental implants is healthy gums. Patients with gum disease can receive periodontal treatment, such as scaling and root planing, at our office to restore oral health prior to implant placement.

Since implants rely on bone tissue for support, you must have sufficient jawbone densityto qualify for treatment. Without the roots of a healthy tooth, your jawbonewill diminish over time, causing bone recession in many patients with missing teeth. Apreparatory bone graft or sinus lift to supplement your jawbone tissues can restore your candidacy.

Certain other health concerns, such as uncontrolled diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and smoking, can disqualify patients from dental implant treatment. Please go over your medical history with our dentist to ensure you are healthy enough forsurgery and have a good chance of success with implants.

We start by carefully planning your implant surgery to maximize the precision and chances of success. Using detailed scans of your smile, Dr. Tavoian identifies the optimal location for each implant and creates your custom surgical guides. Patients missing one tooth will need a single implant, while complete tooth loss may require six or more.

Next, we schedule the procedure to place the titanium dental implants. We begin by administering anesthesia to prevent you from feeling the surgery. Dr. Tavoiana also offers several types of sedation dentistry, including oral conscious, and intravenous (IV) sedatives. Once you are comfortable, we make small incisions in the gums and strategically place the required implant posts.

Over the next few months, the titanium posts fuse with the jawbone in a process known as osseointegration. Our dentist will check up on you during this period to assess your recovery and determine when you are ready for abutments.

Depending on the type of restoration, you may qualify for a same-day prosthetic created produced in-house with CEREC technology. However, we typically make more complex restorations like dentures with the help of special technicians at our trusted dental lab.

While it is impossible to determine your exact treatment costs without first examining your smile, dental implants are generally more expensive than traditional tooth replacement options. If budget is your primary concern, you might want to consider removable denturesor traditional crowns and bridges. However, if you care more about the quality of your results, dental implants are undoubtedly the best method.

It is also important to consider the long-term savings of dental implants. By replacing the underlying roots of your tooth, implants can prevent serious oral health problems and future costly restorative procedures. Furthermore, implant-supported restorations last longer than traditional prosthetics and will need fewer replacements over the course of a lifetime.

Same-day crowns require two basic steps: preparingyour tooth and fabricating your new prosthetic using CERECtechnology.Preparingyour tooth involves removing decay and a small amount of enamel to create room for your custom crown. Local anesthesia will be used to numb the area around your tooth.

Patients who experience dental anxietymay request sedation dentistry. Our office offers nitrous oxide, oral conscious, and IV sedation. Once your tooth is preparedfor thecrown, Brianwill take a detailed digital impression using our CEREC system. With input from Brian, the digital impression takes into account the color, size, and shape of your new tooth.

Then, our CEREC CAD/CAM software feeds information about your new prosthetic to an onsite milling unit that will construct your crown from ablock of porcelain. The process usually takes one hour to complete. Once the tooth is ready, your new crown will be bonded in place, and Brianwill check the quality of your bite, making adjustments as necessary.

Same-day crowns using CERECtechnology not only allow for quicker placement of your prosthetic, but thisleap in technology means that your new crown more accurately matches your otherteeth. Dr. Brian K. Tavoian offers same-day crowns because he believes his patients deserve the best treatment options modern dentistry can offer. Our office accepts CareCredit financing to help make dental procedures and services more affordable. If you are interested in learning about the benefits of same-day crowns, contact our office onlineor call (435) 586-0123.
