Dr. Shirley grew up in San Antonio, TX. He received a golf scholarship from Louisiana Tech University, where he completed his undergraduate studies. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with cum laude honors from UTHSC, San Antonio in 2008. Dr. Shirley then completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at UT Southwestern/Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, TX, which is known as one of the most prestigious maxillofacial surgery programs in the country. In 2011, he earned his medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical School and completed an internship in general surgery and anesthesia. He finished his residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 2014 and was chosen to pursue an additional year of fellowship training in maxillofacial oncology and reconstructive surgery at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, TX.

Before relocating to East Texas, Dr. Shirley served as the chief oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport, LA, for three years. In addition to working in private practice, he is also an associate faculty member at the LSU/Oschner Health Science Center in Shreveport, LA, and John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, TX, where he works with and trains the oral and maxillofacial surgery residents and maxillofacial oncology and reconstructive surgery fellows. Dr. Shirley's training and previous work have allowed him to have an extensive scope of practice. He loves all aspects of his profession but has a particular interest and specialized training in dental implants, all on 4 (lock on dentures), and the removal and reconstruction of benign and malignant lesions of the head and neck.

Dr. Shirley is a Fellow with the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Shirley is one of less than fifteen doctors in nation to have a certification in Added Qualifications in Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Shirley has contributed to textbooks, publications, has given numerous presentations on various subjects in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He is also affiliated with local hospitals including Nacogdoches Medical Center, Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, CHI St Lukes Hospital Lufkin, Texas, Woodland Heights Hospital Lufkin, Texas, LSU/Oschner University Hospital Shreveport, Louisiana, and John Peter Smith Hospital Fort Worth, Texas.

Dr. Wentland was born in Tennessee and at a young age moved to San Diego where he grew up. He completed his undergraduate studies at California State University, San Marcos. He then attended Loma Linda University for dental school. He earned his DDS degree in 2013 with induction into Omicron Kappa Epsilon, which is reserved for the top 10% of the class. In 2016 Dr. Wentland earned his medical degree from LSU Shreveport, and then completed an internship in general surgery and anesthesia. He then completed his residency in Oral and . Maxillofacial Surgery at the Mount Sinai Hospital and affiliated hospitals in New York. After graduation from residency he accepted a position to attend two-year fellowship in Head and Neck Oncologic and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, TX. He and Dr. Shirley are one of a few surgeons in our country that have this training. During fellowship Dr. Wentland acted as attending surgeon for UTSW residents covering the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. Additionally, he had full surgical privileges at Baylor All Saints and Cook Childrens Hospital in Fort Worth. He maintains his credentials at JPS where he continues to train residents and fellows in all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

The basis of Dr. Wentlands training was rooted in dentistry. He especially enjoys providing patients with the ability to smile again and have confidence with dental implant procedures and the ability to give same day teeth/smiles. He also aims to make wisdom teeth removal as comfortable and painless as possible. Orthognathic surgery, trauma surgery, and management of benign and malignant lesions of the head and neck are also provided by Dr. Wentland.

Dr. Wentland has written several textbook chapters and has been published multiple times in peer reviewed journals. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with the family, surfing, gardening, tennis and many other sports. He looks forward to putting down roots in East Texas.
