The 8th dentist in his family, Dr. Joe Safirstein became an orthodontic assistant at the age of 12 working in his fathers orthodontic practice. He is a faculty member at the OHSU Department of Orthodontics and past president of the Oregon State Society of Orthodontists, and OHSU Orthodontic Alumni Association.
Dr. Joe attended the University of Florida, where he studied history. (Fun Fact #1: Thats also where he became a SCUBA instructor.) He earned his dental degree with highest honors at the University of Tennessee. (Fun Fact #2: Thats also where he learned to love BBQ.) When hes not in the office, hes probably camping or cooking on the smoker in the backyard.
For over forty years now, Dr. Jerry Rensch has provided outstanding orthodontic care right here in Northeast Portland. He has created beautiful smiles for parents, children, and even their grandchildren here in the neighborhood. We are thrilled when patients seek out treatment with Dr. Rensch in their family for generations. We are fortunate to have his knowledge, kindness and charm in our practice. Dr. Jerry Rensch graduated from the University of Oregon (Bachelor of Science), the University of Washington (Master of Science in Dentistry), Oregon Health Science University (Doctor of Dental Medicine), and the University of Washington (Certificate in Orthodontics).
Like Dr. Joe, Erin has a family tie to orthodontics. Her mom has been in the field for many years. Her positive attitude and upbeat approach are second only to her amazing clinical skills. While shes not building smiles with Dr. Joe, shes likely to be hiking and camping with friends.
Julie started her orthodontic career with our team while she was finishing her training (and we consider ourselves fortunate that she landed in our practice.) She brings an amazing mix of personality, fun and skill to the practice.
Kristi is a long time Portlander with more than 20 years of orthodontic experience.Because shes worn every possible hat in an orthodontic office, she knows how to take exceptional care of our patients. Outside of the office Kristienjoys spending time with her husband of 30 years and her two grown children.
Debbie brings a mix of orthodontic experience to our administrative team. Having spent many years perfecting her clinical skills as an orthodontic assistant, she knows what it means to be a patient. Debs focus is making sure the practice accommodates all the logistical needs, from scheduling to financials. Shes a true patient advocate whose top goal is a positive patient experience. When Debs not in the office, youll likely find her outside, enjoying the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
Sheri has over 14 years of experience in the orthodontic field.As our treatment coordinator, she guides patients through the orthodontic treatment journey, answering every last question and making sure the experience is smooth from start to finish. When shes not in the office, she loves spending time outdoors and shehas evenbeen known to summit a mountain or two in the area.
Patty is our new Community Relations Coordinator. Youll find her getting involved and participating in all kinds of neighborhood activities. Patty loves the neighborhood, shes lived in Northeast Portland for over 25 years. Expect to laugh and have some fun if Pattys involved.
Its my job to keep things fun around here at Dr. Joes office, after all that is our motto right? I greet everyone with my incredible good looks and keep everyone laughing with my mischievous antics. All of this takes a lot of energy so you may see me catching some ZZZZs on the clock, but hey being Paw-blic Relations Director is a big job.
I take a relaxed approach to life. Why run if you can saunter? Dr. Joe moves fast and Ive got his back, just a few slower steps behind. Hank may have the looks but I am the brains of this operation and I take my work very seriously. Im a retired bomb sniffer from the Portland Police Bureau, where my chill , easy going attitude (which I consider to be a very fine tuned skill), wasnt so much appreciated. Now its my job with one wag of my tail to let everyone know its time to have some fun and leave the stress behind!
