Our Boulder County full-service dental practice is state of the art, and we utilize the latest technology to make sure you receive the best dental care available in the most comfortable environment. For example we use a device called the soft tissue laser that allows the Lafayette, CO dentist Dr. Gordon West to treat your gums and other soft tissues within your mouth more effectively.

Dr. West is a 1998 graduate of The Marquette School of Dentistry and has practiced exclusively in Colorado since his graduation. Dr. West completed his residency at Denver General, where he studied advanced emergency medicine and comprehensive care of patients with complex medical histories.
Dr. West always stays abreast of the latest technologies for cosmetic dentists and sedation dentists by attending continuing education seminars around the country. Areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, cosmetics, occlusion, and dental implants. Dr. West was born in Sitka, Alaska, where his father practiced dentistry from the 1960s through the 1990s. Dr. West is committed to providing a high level of patient care in a relaxed, professional, and caring atmosphere.
Dr. West and his wife Melanie live in Lafayette, CO where they enjoy a wide array of outdoor activities including, camping, backpacking, fishing, cycling, and skiing. They have a two year old, Sydney, who is walking and keeping life very busy. Sydneys best friend is a 7 year old chocolate lab, Chili Dog. In the fall of 07, Dr. West had identical twin girls named Emerson and Mackenzie.
Dr. Andrew Johns is a native of Tennessee and graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. As the son of two dentists, he developed an early appreciation of dentistry and the benefits patients receive. He continually educates himself on new technologies, materials, and techniques to provide a superior level of care and is committed to restoring patients to natural comfort, function, esthetics and health. Dr. Johns completed a clinical residency in comprehensive implant dentistry and oral reconstruction at the Advanced Dental Implant Institute under the direct guidance of Dr. O. Hilt Tatum Jr., who is regarded as one of the fathers of modern implant dentistry.
As a general dentist he focuses on care for the entire family and loves the relationships he develops with patients during the course of their care. His compassionate approach will leave you feeling cared for and listed to. I enjoy getting to know my patients on a personal level and I feel this type of relationship allows me to provide individualized care specific to each persons unique needs.
In 2017, he and his wife, Casey, moved to Colorado to raise their family in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. When Dr. Andrew is not in the office, he enjoys spending time running, hiking and exploring Boulder County with his four children, William, Eleanor, and identical twin boys Thomas and Samuel.

Boulder County Smiles provided the most patient centric experience of my life. I had multiple dental issues resolved including veneers to address broken teeth. The staff's skills and demeanor are simply awesome. My previous attempt to address my aesthetic issue with another practice was a miserable failure. In comes Dr. West at BCS. The skills and care he offers are unparalleled. I would recommend this practice for any dental issue, but especially for anyone considering cosmetic work. Dr. West blends his deep knowledge and experience with both the science and the art necessary for competent aesthetic procedures - a very unique and much appreciated expertise. I would give 0 stars if I could. The X-ray tech did all the pix before noticing that I was wearing earrings, so she had to repeat them all. The offices and waiting room were not just unsanitary but filthy. (The bite on the x-ray machine was not covered. The walls, chair, lights, tables, almost everything in the 2 exam rooms I was in were caked in dust and some kind of sticky dripping something that was confusing. Imagine seeing the dentist touch/pull on that overhead light which was dirty, then put those hands in your mouth. When the dentist came in to see me, he didn't introduce himself or address me and I wasn't sure if he was a dentist, yet another tech, or what. It was very odd. The cleaning was painful. The whole appointment was simply bizarre. Perhaps the office was just having a bad day (or week, with the cleaning). However, it's now 6 months later. I asked them to send those X-rays to a new dentist. I asked the week of that unfortunate appointment, again 4 months ago, and again last week. Each time I re-submitted the authorization form and spoke to a human on the phone who said they were going to do it that day. I just learned from my new dentist that it STILL hasn't been done. My appt with my new dentist is tomorrow. Sigh. I rarely write bad reviews, and NEVER public ones, but I'm doing this so you might save yourself the terrible experience I've had.

As a new patient of the practice I must admit how overjoyed I am, not only with the outstanding dental care I receive but the extent they're willing to go to accommodate for my special needs in order to make my treatments as comfortable as possible, especially Janessa, the Hygienist who consistently goes above and beyond all for my benefit. I'll definitely be coming back in the future. Dr West was nice and very helpful giving me genuine advice. They did a great job putting my crown on. I spent a couple days there and Hannah made it worth it, she was very sweet and fun to talk to. She was also really good at her job

This place is great. The staff is super friendly and I feel like everyone knows really well what they need to do. Dr. West is patient and explains things clearly and when I asked the staff a thousand questions they responded with upmost patience. I knew every step and what to expect. I got a chip filled and it looks so good. In a few weeks I am getting my two permanent veneers and I am so excited because the mock ups were outstanding. Would recommend this place highly.

Before I came to BCS I was petrified of dentists. I have been to a few over the years and my encounters have been so bad due to my own poor dental hygiene as well as fear of what I might have to endure in a dentist's chair that I rarely went unless I couldn't avoid it. My son broke his 2 front teeth in a roller blading accident. After going to the local state funded dentist and having one of the fillings fall off a day later I looked into a dentist that had a good reputation and was good with kids and could see him ASAP. I made the appointment and was introduced to Boulder County Smiles. My fear of dentists was so bad that I had to leave my son alone in the office with a dentist I had just met so I could avoid the normal sounds of a dentist office and wait in the waiting room. When my son gave them a rave review and talked about how painless the procedure was I had hope but was still too scared to take that first step. Fate would have it that I broke a tooth 3 months later due to a small cavity and an old filling. I made an appointment about a month later. I had been told by 2 other dental offices that my back 2 molars were not savable. After not taking good care of my teeth my broken back molar was hurting and any contact with it made me almost cry it was so painful. My first visit Dr. Gordon West gave me hope. He gave me a tip to get my tooth to stop hurting (water flossing around the tooth) and it worked. Once that was done I came in for an exam to see exactly how much work I needed. It wasn't as bad as I had thought but it wasn't cheap either and it required a lot of hard work. I committed to it for my own personal health as well as setting an example for my 4 children. Over the next 3 months I had 2 root canals under full sedation as well as a few fillings, got 2 crowns, and then started looking at ortho solutions for my sleep apnea as well as straightening my teeth for self esteem purposes. Over the past 2 years I have endured a lot, used a lot of NOS, sedation (even during cleanings due to my fears), and slowly gained a trust for dentists and dental assistants I have never had in my entire life. I can now get a filling without freaking out over the sound of the tools, do a cleaning without any numbing agent or NOS, and can actually talk about dental stuff and not have a panic attack or get the willies. Dr. West and Dr. Johns have changed my life! They took someone that almost had a panic attack walking through the office door and helped me overcome my fear. A fear that has haunted me, affected my ability to be a role model for my kids, and had I not overcome it could have deeply affected my health and longevity on this earth. Dr. West, Dr. Johns, and the entire BCS staff, I owe you a HUGE debt of gratitude! I know my journey isn't over yet but because of what you have helped me overcome I don't fear the future procedures and look forward to how you will benefit my children as they go through their final stages to adulthood with their dental procedures. Your staff is almost always pleasant, cordial, cares about their patients, and you are willing to do whatever you can at your patient's comfort level to benefit their journey. You take the time to understand where they are and what they need to be successful in their journey to better oral health. Your counsel, listening ears, gentle touch, and amenities helped me get to where I am today. Thank you so so so so so so much! If you fear dentists, can't stand the sound of the dental drill, and just the mention of it gives you the chills or willies, this is the dentist for you! I guarantee if you give them a chance you will walk out on the other side of your journey a changed person. Give them a chance I know they won't disappoint!

Simply the best dentist I've ever been to. What too many dentists forget about is "bedside manner". Dr. Johns and Dr. West care about you as a patient. If they think you are feeling the slightest bit of pain or discomfort they will stop and make sure you're okay for them to continue. They will take the time needed to discuss things with you before and after your procedure and you can literally ask them anything you are concerned about...they truly want you to be worry free when it comes to what they are going to do and make sure you're satisfied with things after they are done. I am a patient with special needs when it comes to dentistry and I have now visited them 3 times in the last month or so and they have made all of my visits pain & anxiety free. Prior to coming here I would be fearful of visiting a dentist 3 times in a decade! Everyone there is just so caring and so friendly and they genuinely seem to enjoy working there. Special shout out to Perla who is one of the kindest people I've ever met in my life. As I need further dental work, this is the only place I will be going.

I can't believe how well it went today! I was so scared for the past month since booking appointment to have filling done but so far so good!! The office is very clean and several new protocols in place to protect against COVID but I have a dental fear that is a 30 on a scale of 1-10! Dr west is helping me chip away at that and today was a huge step numbness has started wearing off so far no pain my biggest fear was my bite being off but so far so good and I have full confidence that even if it needs tweaking dr west will make it right which I honestly think it already is but the next few days will tell for sure! Answer to my prayers thank you Dr. West and team!!

Dr. West and team are amazing! I just had 2 crowns redone and they pay particular attention to fit, bite, comfort, and your well-being. I've seen a few dentists Over the past 40+ years and by far he ranks at the top!
