Dr. Karen Wang has worked in the dental field for over eleven years, and established Bothell Smiles Family Dentistry as her home practice since 2018. Dr. Wangs practice philosophy is to treat every patient like family, with kindness and a gentle hand. No matter if your last visit was 6 months or many years ago, she truly cares about you, and will give you her undivided attention. Dr. Wang works closely with her patients to achieve their smile and health goals, all the while developing patient confidence in lifelong oral healthcare habits along the way.
Dr. Karen Wang was born and raised in Southern California and has made her home in Washington. During college, she discovered that dentistry perfectly integrates her passion to help others with her natural skill & talent with arts & crafts. She began her dental journey as a surgical dental assistant, and continued her education at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. Go Dawgs!
During her time in dental school, Dr. Wang served as a student leader in the UW Chapter of the American Student Dental Association. She also performed research on ceramic veneers with Dr. Jeff Chen, won second place in a research competition, and recently published this article in the Journal of Taiwan Academy of Operative Dentistry. Dr. Wang spent significant time performing dental community service, mentoring underclassmen and graduated magna cum laude, top 10, in her class.
Dr. Wang loves to teach, and continues to mentor pre-dental students in their journeys towards becoming dentists. She is also dedicated to teaching patients more about understanding their oral health, and is happy to answer any questions patients may have.
Dr. Jeff Chen received his DDS from Taipei Medical University in 1998; Master of Science in Dentistry and Certificate of Prosthodontics from the University of Washington in 2008. In addition to serving patients in Bothell, he is a full time Assistant Professor at the University of Washington Department of Restorative Dentistry and maintains a private practice in Shoreline, WA. Dr. Chens clinical expertise focuses on esthetic and implant dentistry. His research and clinical work has been presented at multiple scientific meetings both nationally and internationally, and he has authored numerous articles in various peer-reviewed journals. During his spare time, Dr. Chen enjoys spending time with his wife, Dr. Nagatomo and their two kids, traveling, reading, and playing sports.
Dr. Joan Nagatomo received her DDS from Niigata University and her PhD in advanced Periodontics from the Tokyo Medical Dental University in Japan. She then returned to the United States, where she completed her residency and received her speciality Certificate of Periodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry degree (MSD) from the University of Washington. Dr. Nagatomo treats every patient like family, with compassion, empathy and quality care. Her extensive training and experience across multiple fields of dentistry makes her uniquely qualified to provide her patients with accurate diagnoses and exceptional treatments. In her spare time, Dr. Nagatomo enjoys spending time with her husband, Dr. Chen and their two kids, cooking, watching movies, and playing golf.

She provides quality, personalized care, and makes you feel like part of the family. With experience assisting with multiple dental procedures, including restorative crowns, fillings, veneers, extractions, dental implants, bone and gum grafting, bridges, and whitening, Katelyn will be able to guide and answer your questions about procedures.
