Dr. Karen Wang has worked in the dental field for over eleven years, and established Bothell Smiles Family Dentistry as her home practice since 2018. Dr. Wangs practice philosophy is to treat every patient like family, with kindness and a gentle hand. No matter if your last visit was 6 months or many years ago, she truly cares about you, and will give you her undivided attention. Dr. Wang works closely with her patients to achieve their smile and health goals, all the while developing patient confidence in lifelong oral healthcare habits along the way.
Dr. Karen Wang was born and raised in Southern California and has made her home in Washington. During college, she discovered that dentistry perfectly integrates her passion to help others with her natural skill & talent with arts & crafts. She began her dental journey as a surgical dental assistant, and continued her education at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. Go Dawgs!
During her time in dental school, Dr. Wang served as a student leader in the UW Chapter of the American Student Dental Association. She also performed research on ceramic veneers with Dr. Jeff Chen, won second place in a research competition, and recently published this article in the Journal of Taiwan Academy of Operative Dentistry. Dr. Wang spent significant time performing dental community service, mentoring underclassmen and graduated magna cum laude, top 10, in her class.
Dr. Wang loves to teach, and continues to mentor pre-dental students in their journeys towards becoming dentists. She is also dedicated to teaching patients more about understanding their oral health, and is happy to answer any questions patients may have.
Dr. Jeff Chen received his DDS from Taipei Medical University in 1998; Master of Science in Dentistry and Certificate of Prosthodontics from the University of Washington in 2008. In addition to serving patients in Bothell, he is a full time Assistant Professor at the University of Washington Department of Restorative Dentistry and maintains a private practice in Shoreline, WA. Dr. Chens clinical expertise focuses on esthetic and implant dentistry. His research and clinical work has been presented at multiple scientific meetings both nationally and internationally, and he has authored numerous articles in various peer-reviewed journals. During his spare time, Dr. Chen enjoys spending time with his wife, Dr. Nagatomo and their two kids, traveling, reading, and playing sports.
Dr. Joan Nagatomo received her DDS from Niigata University and her PhD in advanced Periodontics from the Tokyo Medical Dental University in Japan. She then returned to the United States, where she completed her residency and received her speciality Certificate of Periodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry degree (MSD) from the University of Washington. Dr. Nagatomo treats every patient like family, with compassion, empathy and quality care. Her extensive training and experience across multiple fields of dentistry makes her uniquely qualified to provide her patients with accurate diagnoses and exceptional treatments. In her spare time, Dr. Nagatomo enjoys spending time with her husband, Dr. Chen and their two kids, cooking, watching movies, and playing golf.
As our lead Registered Dental Assistant, RDA,Katelyn's goal is to make sure your visit is comfortable and that all your needs are met! She provides quality, personalized care, and makes you feel like part of the family. With experience assisting with multiple dental procedures, including restorative crowns, fillings, veneers, extractions, dental implants, bone and gum grafting, bridges, and whitening, Katelyn will be able to guide and answer your questions about procedures.

I've struggled with a dental phobia for 20 years now, and Dr. Karen is the first dentist to ever earn my trust. She's compassionate, encouraging, gentle, and careful. Dr. Karen and her staff are always patient and attentive - they ensure I'm never in pain or overwhelmed. If you've put off going to the dentist out of fear of being scolded or shamed, give Dr. Wang a shot - she's taken incredibly good care of me.

Hands down the best dentist experience I've had in years! The staff is kind and efficient and Doctor Wang is stellar. She never makes the appointment feel rushed, always explains procedures thoroughly, provides some awesome on-the-spot education, and is very warm and friendly. I'm a serious fan!

Had a great experience! I was a bit apprehensive getting my teeth cleaned after painful experiences at other dental clinics. Dr. Wang took time to listen to my concerns and, thanks to her skill, the cleaning was completely pain free! She and her team were all very friendly, explained everything clearly, and answered all of my questions. Highly recommend coming here!

I am new in US. I am trying to have my teeth being taken good care of in this country. I have been to other dental clinic, and get a treatment plan for almost all my teeth with an expensive total cost, which far away beyond my maximum insurance reimbursement amount. Then I came to Bothell Smile, I am so lucky to have Dr. Wang be my doctor. She is professional and skilled, my teeth got very good treatment, and I was been told any potential problem of my teeth. She treated my teeth problem carefully, and never recommend any unnecessary treatment to me. I felt she doesn't want me to waste any money on any unnecessary treatment. And every time she finished treatment, she told me the detail of that day's treatment and told me her thought. I am so clearly knowing my teeth condition now. And she is humble and polite. As a patient of her, she treats me so nice, I feel been cared about a lot. I feel very at ease here at Bothell Smile.

Yes, dentists need to see dentists too! Dr. Wang and her team have an exceptionally well-run system. The entire process before and after arriving was smooth sailing. The assistant, Anique, was incredibly kind and gentle - an absolute sweetheart! Dr. Wang has excellent chairside manner and really takes the time to review xrays and clinical pictures with you so that you don't feel in the dark about any diagnoses. She is calm and professional with top tier clinical skills. Already looking forward to my next visit!

Dr Wang is the best dentist I've ever had, her team is incredible amazing. I moved to the area recently, did an teeth deep cleaning at Bothell Smiles, great experience! I even wanted to leave tips or make a donation when the treatment was done. I'll recommend my wife to transfer to here too.

Bothell Smiles is amazing, and Dr. Wang is an incredible dentist. She's friendly, very happy to answer every question I have without judgement, and explains everything she's doing. Everyone I met - which includes lead dental assistant Katelyn and office manager Kimberly - are incredibly nice and have helped wipe away the anxiety I've always had when it comes to dentistry.

I moved to Woodinville and was looking for a new dentist when I found Bothell Smiles. Dr. Wang gave such care and precision during my exam and cleaning. She gave me a few tips I never heard before from other dentists. After my visit, I honestly think my teeth have never looked cleaner. I am so thankful and would strongly recommend Dr. Wang and her team.

I was explained in detail what was going on and how I was going to get worked on. Having photos of before and after while having things thoroughly explained really made the experience better (which was already great to begin with). Dr. Wang is, hands down, the best dentist I have ever been to. My teeth were in really rough shape when I went in to see her, and I had a lot of anxiety about how much work was going to be needed to fix my teeth. Her and her awesome team were always kind, supportive, and made sure I had no questions or concerns during any of my appointments. I am so grateful to have found Bothell Family Smiles Dentistry, and I will definitely be recommending this place to anyone who is looking for a dentist.

Bothell Smiles stands out as an exceptional dentistry office. In my experience here, Dr. Wang and her team put in extra effort to make patients feel cared for as a whole person, and not just their teeth. The staff is professional, welcoming, and non-judgemental. I would recommend this office to everyone. It's a long commute for me, but it's very worth it because of the environment and quality of service.

If you're someone who is normally not a fan of going to the dentist or has anxiety when thinking about needing work done, I can assure you that you're in great hands when you visit Bothell Smiles Family Dentistry. Dr. Wang is one of the best out there. Her approach to dentistry is calculated, conservative, and with the patient's best interest in mind. She is also very caring and honest when it comes to her patients' overall health and well being. I've had nothing but pleasant experiences every time I see her and her staff!
