Dr. Steen thoroughly enjoys all aspects of practicing oral and maxillofacial surgery. Caring patient interaction as well as the delivery of technically excellent surgery are very important to Dr. Steen.
Dr. Steen was born in Vienna, Austria, and grew up in several locations in central Europe. He graduated from Fairfax High School in Fairfax, VA and then studied at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA. After receiving his B.S. in Biology from Gonzaga, he studied at the University of Washington School of Dentistry, earning his D.D.S. there.
After graduating from the University of Washington, Dr. Steen moved to New Orleans to do an internship in oral & maxillofacial surgery at Louisiana State University/Charity Hospital. During this time, he was faced with the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Dr. Steen remained at Charity Hospital to care for stranded patients and was the last oral & maxillofacial surgeon to leave the hospital on an airboat!
Dr. Steen stayed in New Orleans to undertake a six-year residency program in oral and maxillofacial surgery at LSU. Dr. Steens comprehensive oral and maxillofacial surgery training included a medical education at Louisiana State University, where he earned his M.D. After medical school, Dr. Steen completed a general surgery/neurosurgery residency year, and then completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training.
Dr. Steens special surgical interests include corrective jaw surgery, dental implant rehabilitation, and post-traumatic maxillofacial reconstruction. He also enjoys teaching, and has taught students and residents at the University of Washington and Swedish Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Steen enjoys lecturing, and has spoken at continuing education events at the University of Washington, the Horse Creek Study Club, and the Snohomish County Dental Hygiene Society.
Dr. Steen and his wife are completely in love with the Northwest! They are very excited to be living and raising their family in their favorite place in the world! In their spare time they enjoy running, cycling, and travel.
In 2008, he completed an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery internship at the University of Connecticut Health Center and Hartford Hospital. Dr. Peysakhov then received advanced training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, and other affiliated medical centers. During his residency, he gained a wide range of experiences in full scope Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery including trauma, facial reconstruction, TMJ surgery, treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and facial cosmetic surgery. He presented and lectured both locally and nationally on various topics in his field and has authored multiple articles in his field on topics including implants, bone grafting, obstructive sleep apnea and reconstruction of facial soft tissue defects. He recently co-authored a book chapter in one of the most prestigious maxillofacial trauma textbooks.
Dr. Peysakhovs clinical interests include both office-based and hospital-based surgical procedures, including office general anesthesia, dentoalveolar surgery, bone grafting and dental implant reconstruction, maxillofacial trauma, corrective jaw surgery, oral and maxillofacial pathology, treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), TMJ surgery and cosmetic facial procedures including Botox and facial fillers.
Dr. Peysakhov is Diplomate, and is board certified by American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS), Fellow of American Association of Oral and Maxillofaical Surgeons (AAOMS), certified in CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Advanced Trauma Life Support.
He is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Washington Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, and the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dr. Brian C. Rubens is from Spokane Washington and graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in psychology in 1976. He is a 1980 graduate of the University of Washington School of Dentistry. Dr. Rubens then completed a General Practice Residency with the United States Air Force at U.S.A.F. Hospital, Chanute Air Force Base, Illinois, in 1991. Dr. Rubens then practiced hospital dentistry for three years at U.S.A.F. Hospital, Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri.
Dr. Rubens then began his four-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency training at the University of Washington, including a ten-month fellowship in Arnhem, The Netherlands. After finishing training in 1988, he was an attending Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at U.S.A.F. Hospital, Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, where he completed his military obligation. Major Rubens left the United States Air Force in 1990 and practiced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Edmonds, Washington for several years before establishing his own private practice in Bothell, Washington. Dr. Rubens left his practice in Bothell, Washington, retiring in 2016 to devote undivided time to his wife and family. Dr. Rubens returned to clinical practice in 2018.
Dr. Rubens is appointed to the faculty of the University of Washington Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as an attending Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Harborview Medical Center, The University of Washington Hospital, and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. He has been actively involved in the residency training of young Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons within the University since returning from the Air Force. Dr. Rubens has presented and published several papers involving his special surgical interests in the areas of corrective jaw surgery, trauma, and reconstructive jaw surgery.
Dr. Rubens is an Eagle Scout and has received the Air Force Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster. He has been recognized by the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Washington for Excellence in Teaching by Example.
Dr. Rubens is a Diplomate (Board Certified) of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a Fellow in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and a Fellow in the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Rubens is also a Diplomate (Board Certified) of the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology and a Fellow in the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. Dr. Rubens in an active member of the American Dental Association, the Washington State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Washington State Dental Association, and the King County Dental Society. Dr. Rubens has been recognized by his peers as one of Americas Top Dentists in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for several years. Dr. Rubens has also been voted by his peers in Seattle Metropolitan Magazine as one of Seattles Top Dentists in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Throughout his life, Dr. Rubens has been very active. His hobbies have included underwater photography, boating, and he is a master SCUBA diver. Dr. Rubens was a cowboy and horseman for over 25 years. His current passions include wildlife and night photography, travel, and his son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter.
