Dr. Hensley spent the majority of her childhood in Nacogdoches in the piney woods of east Texas. She moved to Midlothian, TX for high school but after she graduated, she moved right back to Nacogdoches to attend Stephen F. Austin State University. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree before attending the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston for a DDS degree. Dr. Hensley has done several mission projects like TDA Texas Mission of Mercy and Smile on Wheels events in underserved areas of Texas such as Crockett, Leander, Lubbock, Corpus Christi, and Houston. These projects aim to provide free dental treatment to individuals in need. She remembers her biggest contribution being tooth extractions for adults and explains People would stand in line for hours hoping to be seen and the screening form would often say extract as many teeth as possible. It was very exhausting and yet so rewarding.
Her commitment to evolving alongside dentistry itself can be seen in her involvement with several organizations, including ADA, TDA, and AGD (which present many continuing education opportunities to expand on her knowledge and skills). She has wanted to be a dentist since she was in middle school, and has a passion for taking care of people and helping them achieve their best smiles by promoting self-care, maintenance, and prevention. Dr. Hensley believes in the old adage if you want something done right, do it yourself and she has high expectations for what taking care of someone requires.
Dr. Hensley is married to her best friend, Brad and they have 2 beautiful boys, Cayden and Corban. They spend most of their leisure time outdoors on adventures like hunting, fishing, hiking, kayaking and overall enjoying the beautiful Texas Hill Country.
Dr. Balkos was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. He studied biology and physiology at the University of Western Ontario before moving to Indianapolis to attend the Indiana University School of Dentistry. After graduation, he moved to Texas to specialize in Pediatric Dentistry at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. His research there involved esthetic crowns for primary molars with large decay, presenting at the Annual Meeting for Pediatric Dentistry in Chicago, and the Texas Academy of Pediatric Dentistry meeting in San Antonio in 2019.
Outside of practice, Dr. Balkos is a music enthusiast and can often be heard singing or whistling as he cleans teeth! Before studying science and dentistry, Dr. Balkos sang and played both the bass and trumpet in over eight different musical groups. In his spare time, Dr. Balkos is an avid runner and cyclist, and has even completed a 70.3-mile Ironman triathlon; but his favorite place is in a calm river on a paddleboard.
In 2016 Dr. Alfonso was accepted into the Orthodontic Residency Program at UF and in 2018 obtained his second Certificate in Orthodontics. The journey continued to San Antonio where along with his wife, Angie, and their sons Juan Pablo and Mateo, they found an amazing city that provides countless opportunities to explore and enjoy a family-friendly environment with great people waiting to welcome them. When Dr. A. has some free time outside of the office, he and his wife are finding outdoor activities to drain JPs and Mateos endless energy.
Originally from Venezuela, Dr. Alfonso obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, DDS in 2003 (UGMA). His interest for orthodontics turned into a passion for providing stunning smiles and watching the impact of such changes in patients confidence and self-esteem. He then received his Diploma in the Specialty of Orthodontics and Maxillofacial Orthopedics in 2006 from the Technological University of Mexico, (UNITEC). Dr. Alfonso then returned to his home country, Venezuela to devote himself to private practice and in 2014 Dr. Alfonso and his family decided to relocated to the US to start a Fellowship in Orthodontics at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he got the chance to update his knowledge and experience in new techniques and technologies like the use of Clear Aligner Therapy and the use of Cone Beam Computed Tomography in surgical planning of patients needing Orthognathic surgeries.
