A mentor of mine, who was an amazingly talented dentist, told me that early in my career. I think that it is a timeless message that all doctors should take to heart. When I first started dental school, I had a goal of becoming a dentist that my patients trusted. Making sure that my patients were comfortable during their treatment was my highest priority, as I knew that many people were afraid that their dental care would be an unpleasant experience. But my core values remain unchanged. Making your dental visits comfortable is still my foremost goal.
Being deserving of your trust is a core element of who I am, and I constantly strive to improve care for my patients. This is a major reason that I take a significant amount of continuing education every year and why I participate almost daily in an educational dental forum. New materials continually emerge that allow thoughtful dentists to perform treatments that will look better and last longer than ever before.
Beyond comfort and trust, I want you to receive quality care at a reasonable cost. Every piece of equipment in my office has been very carefully chosen with several considerations in mind. Does it provide a real improvement in the quality of care? Does it make treatment more efficient? Is it a more comfortable way to provide treatment? Is it cost effective for my patients?
Dr. Koenitzer first decided he wanted to be a dentist in 7th grade, and he has remained passionate about his career choice ever since. The doctor attends continuing education classes on an ongoing basis, covering all aspects of dentistry, and travels from Seattle to Florida to hear from the finest dental educators. Dr. Koenitzer is a daily participant in an online forum of dentists who exchange information on techniques, materials, and advances in dentistry. This group has about 1,000 active participants, including several of dentistrys leading researchers and clinicians.
The doctor was born and raised in Petaluma. He attended McNear Elementary and Valley Vista Elementary before graduating from Petaluma High School. Dr. Koenitzers mother was an elementary school teacher at Cherry Valley and Penngrove. His father had a local business, served on the Petaluma Planning Commission and the Petaluma Parks and Recreation Commission, and was involved in several of Petalumas largest projects, like the city pool complex and the Luchesi Community Center.
Dr. Koenitzer graduated with high honors from the University of Pacific with his Bachelor of Science in biology. He attended the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF), the top-rated dental school in the US. Dr. Koenitzer received several awards for clinical excellence and was the president of his class. Upon graduation, Dr. Koenitzer became the youngest faculty member at UCSF and spent several years treating patients, training post-grad dental students, and working with several world-famous dentists.
