Dr. Carrie Pumphrey grew up in Greensburg, Indiana on the family farm. She graduated in 1997 from Purdue University with her BS in Nutrition Science and went on to earn her DDS from Indiana University in 2001. She formed Blue River Dental that same year in Shelbyville.
Dr. Pumphrey belongs to the Indianapolis District Dental Society, the Indiana Dental Association, the American Dental Association, and the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health. She regularly attends local dental study clubs as well. She has enjoyed participating in several local non-profits over the years including the Major Hospital Foundation, the Blue River Foundation, Girls Inc and SCUFFY.
Betsy Crandall, DDS is a native of Greenwood, Indiana. She completed her undergraduate studies at Indiana University, receiving her BS in Biology in 2002. She went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Indiana University in 2007 and began practicing the same year in Shelbyville.
Dr. Crandall is a member of the Indianapolis District Dental Society, the Indiana Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. She is also a member of local dental study clubs. Dr. Crandall enjoys volunteering her time and supporting the Major Hospital Foundation, Girls Inc, SCUFFY, and Clarity Pregnancy Center.
Dr. Crandall and her husband Ward are the proud parents of Ollie and Ruby. As a family, they enjoy spending time at the lake and entertaining friends and family. They love watersports, hiking, and traveling.

I've never had such a wonderful experience at a medical or dental office. From the front desk staff to the hygienists to both Dr. Pumphrey and Dr. Crandall. It's obvious that everyone makes an effort to really know their patients on an individual basis. I appreciate their more holistic approach to dental health and their attention to more than just my mouth and teeth. It's never been an issue to get an appointment that works with my schedule and in a timely manner. Highly recommend

I have never in my life enjoyed going to a Dentist. Lol, I still don't enjoy it , who does but if I have to go to one this is the place I go. They do make it as enjoyable as possible though.

I have been searching for a dentist like Betsy Crandall for forever! I had about 4 hours of dental work done and it was a great experience ( I have always been terrified when going to the dentist.) Blue River Dental will be my place from now on. Friendly and caring staff, very clean facility and Besty is very caring and gentle. Thank you Betsy and staff for a relaxing experience and the beautiful work on my teeth!

I took my ex wife there a few years ago for fillings. My insurance paid for everything. She liked it there so I went there last year hoping for the same experience. They told me I needed to get some work done and presented me with a printout of how much everything will cost me. They told me my insurance pays up to $1000 and I will have to pay for the rest. They even added a Oral B electric toothbrush to my bill without my permission. I had them remove it because I did not need it. The work I needed done took three sessions. Each time I paid my part. After I paid my part during the third session I asked if they billed my insurance and they told me the office is not on any network. They had me believing my insurance will cover $1000 of the bill. My insurance did not. They should of told me they are not on any network instead of making me believe they were but I should have called my insurance to verify if they were. Anyway I will never go back there again and now I am looking for a new dentist.

Amazingly friendly staff. They do everything possible to make the task of a dental visit quick and easy with fun conversation and always making sure you are comfortable and not experiencing even the slightest discomfort. They are amazing at what they do! I would highly recommend to anyone.

I am 55 years old and Blue River is absolutely, hands down the best dentist I have ever been to! They go above and beyond to make you comfortable and knowledgeable about what they are doing. Everyone is so friendly too!

Everyone is so very nice and accommodating. Rene (the scheduler) worked tirelessly with me to get me an appt during a time that would fit into my own schedule. My hygienist was sweet and gentle. All the ladies at the front desk are so very nice. And of course, Dr. Crandall is the best! She has been my dentist for years and I have never had a problem despite much dental work that I have had done. I would highly recommend Blue River Dental!

Blue River Dental is a 5 star office! From the moment you arrive until you walk out the door you are treated like family! Dr. Pumphrey is one of the kindest, caring dentists I have ever had. She truly cares about her patients and this carries over to the staff! Give them a call you won't be disappointed!

Exceedingly happy with how I was treated. Staff is very friendly and caring. Professional throughout my visit and explained everything completely. Let me know what they were going to do before doing it and were very gentle as possible considering the mess I let my teeth get into. Very glad I chose Blue River.
